    I'm 50 years old, a 3hdcp. Club head speed has just intersected with age. I normally played stiff shafts and switched to regular. At my age, it takes a while to loosen up, and tend to stiffen up very quickly, with no mobility. If I swing smooth with a regular shaft, I could keep the ball on line with a slight draw. If I stepped on the gas I tended to hit a high fade. I could feel the club head a touch behind at impact. This was with long irons and the driver. I found it really made very little difference with 8 iron and down for obvious reasons. I much rather prefer bringing a speed stick with me now, to stay loose, and hitting the stiff shafts. I tend to hit a more penetrating ball flight with them, for those windy days. hope you live long enough to find out what it's like. I'll be watching some more videos. Thanks.

    I think the most important factor is the lie of the clubs...Recently went to the range with my 35 year old Wilson Tour blades (Dynamic TT Reg, neutral lie), and 2 days later went out to play with my current Srixon blades (2º flat, dynamic S300 stiff). I think I noticed more difference in the lie than in the shaft! Perhaps worth testing????

      Lie angle is super important mate yeah!

    The main difference using stiff shafts is the displacement is usually tighter...if you're a decent golfer. On a side note I used a stiff shafted driver at the week end for the first time (Titliest 915 D3) and none went right...initial setting was C3, but was drawing too much. Went for the D4 which I found to be better for me.

    • @JakLeeGolf
      @JakLeeGolf  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Squizzy Bollocks the main difference is the golfer mate! A golfers variances shot to shot will more than likely be far greater than the variances between 2 different shafts
      A good fitting for me is also a lesson 👍🏼 sounds like you’ve been fitted well for your driver

      Just depends the golfer. Typically it’s better to play something too soft than too stiff.

    Very good review. Just got a 2nd hand set of 620 CB with DG 105 R300 shafts and so far I enjoy those. Been gaming the Modus 105 in regular with my other set. I can say that it launches slightly higher than the Modus 105, although Modus is 1/4 inch shorter. I will get those fitted and see if I need to make any adjustments

      I just bought irons with the Nippon Modus 105 tour in regular. I did a basic bend the shaft test against the DG 105, and Nippon seemed firmer. The DG 105 seemed much softer or easier to bend when pressing the clubhead into the floor.

    That's what I figured when I got my club fitted.
    The same shaft model, 1 step of stiffness from R to S does not make a big difference as long as the weight of the shafts are the same. Maybe a little softer feeling with R when hit.
    If they are in different weight category, it is different story lol

    Impressive video, Jak, thank you very much. I am hcp 20 and I am planning to buy new irons with steel shaft (taylormade Sim max). The speed of my 7i (with an old graphite Nike Oss) is 85 mph. Should i buy those clubs with an steel KBS MAX 85 Regular or stiff shaft? I am a little bit lost. I appreciate your professional help. I use stiff in my driver (100 mph). Your opinion would be very useful. Thanks in advance.

    What is your 7 iron swing speed (or driver swing speed) for comparison's sake? You have a very smooth transition phase which helps mitigate loading the shaft too much at the top of the swing and then having issues timing the release.

    Pretty much as I would have expected, no difference at all!! I think it’s an ego stroker for some. I have hit both in my Irons and I have never seen one bit of difference. I even tried graphite and I actually think they played better than steel.

    Listen I have a club head speed with my driver at 118-123 but use reg flex with my irons so I can swing slower and still achieve the distance I need to hit. Why go 100% when 70% matched with the right set up does the same thing. It’s more important to hit every shot solid, on the sweet spot and have control over the club than stroking my ego with swing speed.

Really liking those - and between the regular (and lighter) shaft, the club heads, and some swing adjustments I am liking my ball flight a whole lot more these days. I didn't get the extra distance I was hoping to get from the M4's - but so long as you know how far you hit them, and you can get the proper trajectory - that's the name of the game.
