- The BMW 3 Series is known for the driving experience it offers. In India, it is available in two guises - the Gran Limousine and the M340i. The 320Ld is the more comfortable and easy, while the M340i is sportier, more engaging, and its exhaust sounds so good. Also, the latter is the only way you can get your hands on a regular wheelbase 3 Series in India. The 320Ld is priced from Rs 60.50 lakh and the M340i from Rs 69.20 lakh (ex-showroom). So which one should you buy? Our editor Sirish Chandran finds out.

Got myself a 330Li last month. It has enough grunt for the city roads where it’s mostly used. But I can imagine how crazy M340i must be. 😅

I don't understand why they discontinued the normal 330i and 320d. Around 50 lakhs, they were such a good deal. The Long wheelbase version is surely not a good deal. M340i is worth the stretch for sure. 🔥
Because people would go for the c class instead and india isn't very enthusist rich market but rather a chauffer driven country in this market

The 3 series, especially 320d sold in good numbers. And it used to cost less than both the C class and Lwb 3 series.
It's all about that extra space.
C class 2023 is a bit congested at back for tall people. Lwb is what people liked about 3 series since you get a balance of performance+comfort both. Also C class's ground clearance is not much as compared to 3 series. Chaffuer driven people will always go for Merc and driving enthusiasts will always go for Bmw.
Turns out buyers were all opting for the LWB
340i is one of the best offerings in the sub-1 crore category. Grey metallic body colour looks just stunning!! well done BMW.

M40i definitely is the way to go if you loving driving. I drove one and it feels super stable and quick. Only problem is space is less inside.
And for space you have the 320Ld. It all depends on whether you want that or great performance.
Relatively less compared to LWB
8 years ago I watched polo gt review in evo and locked my decision ..got polo gt tdi which i still love to drive..now that my family and business has grown i ready to upgrade to a bmw so im watching this video..! Hope i come to a conclusion..!
320Ld is far better compared to overall practicality, Indian conditions, mileage and rear seat space.

On the technical front, can you be a bit specific what has actually changed with the suspension on the ld over the regular 3 series?
It has a different suspension package that makes it more comfy.
Become a little softer. Spring and damper rates have changed. Also to account for the added weight. The setup is the same though

340i is awesome btw the exhaust burble is because of the valved exhaust. It opens the exhaust in sport mode.

Brilliant car. My only concern is the tyres and rims with the number of potholes and broken road conditions.
Careful driving does the trick.
Be a little careful and you will be fine. Run flats in any case have harder sidewalls

My gripe with all these luxury cars is not having adas level 2 (really handy on expressways) and no 360°cams for tight parking spots. Cmon 20 lakh cars have it now

I own new 2023 m340i(382hp) and had a 2021 330i (trade in ). Both are great cars in their respective segments but there is no way of comparison between them. Being own it , I can say M340i is proper daily driven rocket . This b58 engine is uncompetable in that segment
Yep the M340i is a great car, no doubt, but with a difference of about Rs 10 lakh between that and the 320Ld, it's just a matter of choice whether one prefers comfort or performance.
Did you get RFT or usual tubeless tyres?

@@ravikumar-bx6sz I test drove m340i recently, and to my surprise could not scrap over any huge speed breakers so I think ground clearance should not be a problem if driven carefully. How's your experience so far? Another thing i am worried about is huge potholes on highways, read some rim bending horror stories, i really love this car and want one but putting off my purchase decision due to the dilemma whether i would really be able to use it with peace of mind on long drives.
@@galacticstar007 I drive in canada , so ,rarely seen the speed breakers here . And I do experienced the flat tire problem with pot-holes here with my previous 330i(Run flat tires) .So, I have got the tire and rim protection package(it’s worth it). I believe they offering in India too with decent price(please check with local dealer). My current 340i has non-run flat tires and so far, I haven’t faced any issue. I prefer non-run flat tires with adaptive suspension which makes ride smooth and worry-free

You have to be careful. It will scrape over tall breakers.

M340i should definitely have adaptive dampers,i felt the ride to be too harsh compared to my 530d.
I guess I'd skip both and buy an S5 . May not be as playful as the m340i but it's a perfect mix of both dynamics and comfort .
went ahead and did just that, exhaust sound is way better too (after buying the 340i too 😅)
Basically you will spend more for a car that will never be as fun as m340i and new s5 will launch soon
@@TheKing-xp7lq i have the LCI 340i too, recently took delivery, and the car is insanely good to drive, but it doesn't sound good, no pops and bangs even with the mpe, and looks very normal even in dravit grey.
The S5 is exciting, it pops and bangs like crazy and looks so good (photos and videos don't do it justice). The new S5 will most probably be electrified and have all touch controls like the A6, which are very difficult to operate.
For pure driving pleasure, the M340i is unrivalled, but for an all rounder experience, the S5 is better.
P.S. I can't disclose the prices but there are some pretty sweet deals going on the S5 that might change your view on the situation 😉
@@hnki444 have 22 340i in the family , s5 is not a bad car , newer model is getting ready to be launched and the price will shoot up . There are no 23 s5 avail in india to order, m340i is made here while s5 is cbu. For the price difference it's not worth but it doesn't mean s5 is a bad car

That sound ...ohh mann but the thing i have started to dislike the floating screen for odo and entertainment; the in dash version are so much practical and more than enough screen sizes plus looks clean. And I think we need the knobs and buttons back
It's where the design trend is heading. Though we agree that knobs and buttons make it easier while driving to adjust things.

Should compare M340i with 330Li not 320Ld as 330Li is 2 L cheaper and has 258 hp rather than 190 hp of 320Ld.
for buying 320 ld put some extra 8 lakhs we can go for 530i & 520d ....... because the extra money will give you a super sedan feel that has no rivals for the 5 series and then , the 340i maintenace is huge that will burn more penny than 530i or 520d and those gear selector is a major disappointment in current 340i or 320ld look like they messed up to compiete electric suffs . i think you thave to make a video for current 5 series and talk about discontinue of 530d and which will replace it .
There's only the diesel and it's almost Rs 10 lakh more expensive than the Ld, so as much as the M340i.

Will be better if you compare the m340i with audi s5 or c43 amg . Your now comparing with 4 cylinder with 6 cyl. 189 hp with 370 hp. Doesn't make sense. Price is different. Even if you try hard 320 ld won't even reach m340 . Then why comparing. Compare s5, c43 amg,m340i
