Ani, I was hip to you by a young beautiful "White" Woman back in 2000 while we both were lending our services to many mainstream environmental organizations throughout the city of "Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection" aka Philly, and abroad. Her name was Alexandria. She was a True Resplendent Soul on Earth. She listened to you each and every moment, whenever I was in her presence. She also had all kinds of memorabilia related to you. We both went to watch you perform in B-More, and we had such a wonderful time, at your concert, and afterward. I was older than "Andy" as most called Alexandria and she called me her "Old Head aka Older God". This young Goddess taught me a lot about "The War Against Women" as I needed to be taught at that juncture. I lost contact with Alexandria. I've searched for her over the years... to no avail. I love hearing how your music and creativity are being steeped in New Orleans culture. Every song speaks to something, a rarity of any songwriter, and continues to do that even if what it speaks to specifically is in the past. Ani's songs speak to life. To survival. To resistance almost above all. And that makes her a true revolutionary. One I'm glad to have in my life.

Me too... I feel really guilty because I understand her newer albums are different because she's happier. I'm a huge Ani fan and wish her all the best - I even have an Ani tattoo - but I haven't been able to really listen to an album since before Red Letter Year. I still buy all the new albums, but find the music so boring I can never tell which song I'm actually listening to. They're much better live where they have more punch, but I understand why most of my friends call her music "elevator music" - I tell them all to listen to her albums prior to 2008. Here's hoping things open up for live concerts again soon and we can experience these songs live where they'll have some life to them!
