    Helpful hints to identify the RV Slide Out Motor Assembly:
    1. The Boot (Not sold separately) covers the brake assembly. Boots have different colors such as red, white, black, orange and gray. Usually the boot color indicates the torque rating of the motor assembly. Gray (low torque), Black (high torque to ultra torque) and White (ultra torque). This is a visual help when
    identifying a motor assembly and does not guarantee the torque rating.
    2. The Brake Lever (Not sold separately) is under the boot on the end of the motor assembly and is proprietary to Power Gear only. This should be in the engaged position (see label on motor housing) when operating the motor
    assembly.
    3. The Motor Housing (Not sold separately) holds the labels for identification of the brake lever (engaged or released) and the Power Gear part number label (p/n= part number) and the base motor label located on the opposite side of the Power Gear part number label. The circumference of the housing can vary from
    diameters such as 2 ½” to 3” and larger; however the larger diameter does not indicate higher torque.
    Boot label location step 6 Motor Housing and Gear box and
    label location step 6 Output Shaft Brake
    4. The Gear Box (Not sold separately) can come in many different shapes such as square, round, rectangle, teardrop (see example below/ far right) and one that looks like a profile of a tape measure (see example below/ far left). This part houses all the reduction gears and the output shaft and or shafts. The mounting
    holes are located at different dimensions depending on the shape of the gear box.
    5. The Output Shaft (Not sold separately) can be a single shaft or a double shaft.
    Single shaft will mount directly to the slide out rail. Double shaft can be mounted on the slide out rail or esent on gear box). The part numbers are either 6 digits long starting with a 5 (example 523900) or 10 digits long starting with a 1 (example 10100000010).
    Profile of a tape measure style End View of Teardrop
    Example Motor Assembly Label
    7. Locate the Base Motor Number on the silver label on the motor housing. The part numbers are either 7 digits long with a dash between the third and fourth number (example 130-1146) or a 6 digit number with a dash between the second and third numbers (example 13-1086) or a 10 digit number starting with a 1
    (example 1510000006). There may also be a 9 digit reference number starting with a letter (example B00610182) or a 10 digit number starting with a letter (example KO1265G300).
    8. Verify how the motor attaches to the coach. (Direct drive) mounts directly to the slide out rail. (Center drive) has the motor assembly mounted between the rails with drive shafts going from the output shafts to the rails. Direct drive motors have a pin
    in the output shaft of the motor assembly where it mounts to the rail. Center drive motor assemblies do not have a pin in the output shaft of the motor assembly where it mounts to the rail.
    9. Transfer the information from above to use the chart to identify the correct motor assembly.
    10. If all identifying marks are gone or non-legible contact the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM or the coach manufacturer) to get the Power Gear system number
    and/or the motor assembly part number. This number is not posted anywhere on the
    system itself or in the coach. Contact Power Gear with the system number so the motor assembly number can be found.
    11. Identifying motors with an encoder: An Encoder is a part on the motor that sends information to the control box when there is one motor per rail and there are multiple rails. There are three different types of encoders. There is an external 4 wire encoder
    (square in shape/shown on far left), there is an external 3 wire (2” round in diameter/shown center) and an internal 4 wire encoder (½”round in diameter/shown far right). Do not mix motors with different encoders.

    That is great access to the motor and motor brake. I have a Schwintek system (which I am happy with) but I miss having easy access like that. Great video and stay safe, Lou

    • @JohnCRV
      @JohnCRV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Lou, I have seen the new ones, they are pretty small too. This one was the original and really cant complain how long it lasted ( 15 yrs ) and lots of use on a large heavy slide. I even had to adjust the height of that slide once but cant find the footage. I think the bad roads really have a lot to do with the abuse they take. I was on the LIE years ago visiting relatives in L.I. and then up to Niagara Falls, I had to tighten every screw in the motorhome LOL. Take care.

    John: you make it look easy! My 99 Dolphin has similar issue. Motor is a little different though. Positioned all the way forward with the square shafts running toward the rear. Grinds when pulling it in and now locked up in the extended position. smooth as silk going out though. Would you say it's a similar issue, with same steps to repair?

    • @JohnCRV
      @JohnCRV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Dojo2929 sounds like it’s the same issue.
      Just to make sure, check the lock lever on the motor to make sure it’s engaged in the locked position. I have heard someone mention that on another site.

    I need to replace my livingroom slideout. I have a 2006 Tiffin Allegro Open Road Workhorse. Same as your rig, W22, ETC... What Powergear part number for the slideout will I need to repair the motor? My problem is the right side of the slide out will retract, but the left side will not retract evenly. I had to have assistance of others push the slideout in as I depressed the slideout button. What can be the problem?

    • @JohnCRV
      @JohnCRV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Guy, Does your slide make any type of noise on the side that's dragging? do hear the gears skipping on the track. It may be an up/down track adjustment issue.
      Watch this video if you have not already, it will give you an idea of how the tracks and gears look on each side. th-cam.com/video/cycjHrNMnlg/w-d-xo.html

    Have you ever changed out a Lippert Components Above Floor Slide-Out dual rail? I can't find any information on how to change out the cam follower or rollers on the rail. I think you have to pull the slide completely off to replace these. I've had a couple go loose and I'm afraid one day they will fail and I won't be ready....Thanks

    Thanks John , for the information, I have a question. I have a 2005 bounder, 36' long, with two slides. Electric slide out system is made by Power gear. I am having trouble with the slide in the living area. We were about to go on vacation, and I was about to bring the slide in , and as I pushed the button, I heard banging coming from beneath the slide. I stopped trying to retract the slide. I went under the slide and had my wife press the switch. I then noticed that both shafts were buffeting and vibrating very loud, and that the motor was trying to turn the shafts. I called the dealer and of course they were very busy and could not give me an appointment for two weeks. That is the end of the vacation. My question is that could it be the motor gears , like the one you just replaced? I would be thankful for any information you could provide. Thank You, Ed

    • @JohnCRV
      @JohnCRV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear about your troubles Ed.
      If the both shafts are not moving and you hear gears grinding it can only be stripped gears. If you want to make sure you can take the motor and gear box down an then take the gear box apart. Good luck.

    Great video ! Can you replace the motor with the slide fully out ? Or would it be better to bring the slide in manually and leave it out a little bit as directed ?

    • @JohnCRV
      @JohnCRV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I found that the slide is level and sits on the floor rollers if you slide it in the position as directed. This will make it easier to slide it and adjust it if needed.

    Slide out is stuck closed. Very little room to work. Shear bolts/nuts on telescopic poles just spins. Bolt doesn't spin but nut does... Any ideas?d

    • @JohnCRV
      @JohnCRV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Replace the bolts and make sure they are high grade type. then slowly try to slide it out but I would have a helper push from the inside at the same time. There may be something obstructing it from coming out.

    John, did you purchase the motor from Amazon, I am having trouble finding a dealer?

    • @JohnCRV
      @JohnCRV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      See the link for the one I bought from amazon and from there you can usually find different models. Or at least find the manufacturer that you can call and see if they have your model. Good luck.

      Hahaha, that movie is a great classic, a bit unrealistic but very entertaining. Our family liked it.

    Hi, I carried my Gemini Thor RV to Camping World to have my slide looked at diagnosed and repaired. The slide would not go out. They said it needed new slide motor. I said ok replace it. After it was replaced they apparently forced it to open and broke the slide rails. They have waited several weeks now for the slide rails to come in at a cost to me of 900$. The installation is estimated 12 hours. Cost labor 1600$. The motor cost 250$ with 4 hours to replace. Just wanted your comment on this.

      How did they break the side rails?

    • @TheOldCowboy1952
      @TheOldCowboy1952 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JohnCRV Camping World told me, when new slide motor was installed, technician was attempting to put the slide out when he heard a crack/break noise. That was the slide rails breaking. That was terrible news. I was wondering your thoughts about this. Thanks!

    • @JohnCRV
      @JohnCRV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure if your rails are like mine.
      see this link and tell me if it’s the same.. th-cam.com/video/cycjHrNMnlg/w-d-xo.html
      if it is, there’s no way a motor would crack it, the gear in the motor would strip first.

      I did some research with some friends that have something similar to yours. Nothing to brag about for a solution to your issue but we have one thing in common, THEY SHOULD PAY FOR THE COST OF THE TRACKS.

    Good idea that they have a manual option in case you lose power 👍☠️

    Great. Now to diagnose mine. It just stopped working. First, learn how to extend and retract manually in a correct fashion. Then I assume to find the culprit- switch, motor, or controller.

    • @JohnCRV
      @JohnCRV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey nelson, if you have the same set up, all you need is a socket on a ratchet and attach it to the bolt at the end of the gears. If you are not getting anything at the motor, start with testing the wires at the motor, If you are getting 12 volts its a bad motor. If you get juice than you go to fuses switches .........

    If it goes out but not in, is the relay built in?

    • @JohnCRV
      @JohnCRV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It can also be the switch itself or the connection. The relay should be close to the switch.

    • @bryanhill4516
      @bryanhill4516 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Replaced the switch and that didn’t work. relay isn’t near the motor...

      Then you need to trace the wire I'm sure one of your compartments has a fuse box along with relays. Good luck.
