The reading I've done says the whole project is scheduled to take 5 years, but it will only be drained for about 2 of those years. You're surrounded by other lake and river resources. Others who have successful fishing channels sometimes drive for 2 hours to get to a fishing spot; seems to me you guys are spoiled!

  • @rodneywhitley1499

They are destroying the beauty that is Mother Nature with apartment complexes, big buildings and shopping centers everywhere. So sad 🙏

  • @TheCulturedHillbilly

You freaked me out with the title of this video. I was worried that there was something going on with your marriage. I was about to cry. I have never met you two personally, but you are part of my life now. You are family. I can’t get out and fish much anymore as I need a power wheelchair to get around. So your channel lets me live vicariously through y’all. You two are like my kids. I love you guys. I love your little ones, Cypress and Summer. They are adorable. It pains me to see how depressed that you guys are about loosing your lake for a time. Just remember, and hopefully you don’t mind a religious analogy, but you always take a beating before you get a blessing. So…here comes the beating but know there is a huge blessing coming after you get through this. Keep the faith and always know that your audience family love you guys.

So it’s all about money. They want to develop lakefront property. The only leg you might have to stand on might be approaching it from the endangered species angle. I live at Lake Arrowhead in Georgia. A rich developer purchased a controlling interest in our lake, and now high-end homes have appeared around the lake, and our property takes have went through the roof - all in the name of progress and development. Development will mean elevated comparables, and that translates to elevated home values and that means your property tax will go up. The Endangered Species angle is a very powerful tool in the right hands. It’s worth looking into. The Spotted Owl and the desert tortoise has caused many a developer to pull their hair out so, if you get the interest of an environmental lawyer to take up your cause, they can at least stall their plans for decades. I wish you guys well…

I wouldn't move. I read the history of the lake and it was contested from the start. To make the lake better, maybe there's a way to influence the re-population and re-planting of the lake. I see that as being something you two could throw yourself into that would help the lake and have a hand in the process. What a legacy to leave behind when you look back and say, "We did make the lake better."

As a kid, the local lake I grew up fishing was drained. So I can sympathize. The worse part was they didn't have the money or a plan to fix it. So it set dry for almost 10 yrs. I honestly thought the day would never come when I would see the lake with water again. But with the help of a ton of fundraising, I eventually got to see the lake come back to life. Deeper, better, with bigger fish, and more improved. Now I get the opportunity to take my kids there. I still got the memories of the old lake, and what it meant to me. As well as all new ones. And that will never be taken away.

It didn’t seem like they have a good plan for this lake at all! I spent my entire childhood living on a man made lake. It was pig farms in it’s day, and when they made it, people were given a very short amount of time to leave their homes and when they left, homes, cars, and tons of trash was just left behind. After about 70 years and several drownings they drained the lake completely and cleaned it. It took 3 months. Since then they’ve done it two or three more times and it’s rebounded and it still is a beautiful place. It sounds like with the least cost to the state, but with major cost too its residents. Don’t give up y’all! If you have to, keep your home but bring your content on the road. Maybe get a camper trailer and start traveling the US. The kids will love it and learn so much… there are endless possibilities! When one door closes, another opens, meaning that maybe this is a call to expand your outlook for your channel? I believe you’ll figure it out and it’ll be the best thing that ever happened to you. I’ll still be here regardless!

BAND TOGETHER AND GET AN INJUNCTION TO STOP THEM. SEPARATELY, YOU CAN DO NOTHING BUT TOGETHER YOU CAN STOP THEM.

Wait to see what happens to the water birds once this happens. I lived in a neighborhood that had an earthen dam that was leaking. The fish died obviously once the water was drained the ducks ate them and were injured neurologically. They no longer were able to hold their heads up and the all eventually drowned in what water remained. My advice to you both is to start buying land around the lake. Once this project is completed you'll see developers showing up to buy land to sell to home builders. It would not surprise me to find out that a group of wealthy developers are behind this to begin with!

This has happened to almost every single body of water I’ve ever fished. Developers have destroyed most shore lines getting rich in the process and ruining our natural fisheries.

I live in New York(moving out this year) and it has a terrible Government. BUT water is sacred to the fools who run the state. They would never do this. The state DEC is constantly placing little red ribbons on peoples land placing it off limits to protect certain trees, plants, bugs and "water shed" areas, you name it. Friend of mine lost a his 88 acres to do ANYTHING ON!! He still owns it and has to pay taxes on it but can't use it for anything but personal firewood or hunting Sorry this happened to you and others on the lake.

  • @aaronenglish8767

I love you guys! It breaks my heart that they are draining that lake! As an Arkansas man myself, lakes like that lake are too precious to mess with in such an extreme way. Draw down for improvements? Sure! Dont drain it completely though! God Bless yall Cole n Jay and those adorable young-uns!❤

  • @davejohnson6353

My heart is broken for and with you guys. I know it’s hard for you both and I’m praying for good things to happen in this difficult situation. Bless you both and your beautiful kids!

  • @kellyjung283

I am one of your biggest fans, I feel like I know you both even though we have never met. When you glued that butterfly wing just so it could fly one more time sums up how much you care for all living things. The loss of this wonderful habitat must be very sad. I have a few fishing videos on my channel and wish I had the time for content as awesome as yours. Who else can catch a fish on horse back. We love your channel and watching your family grow.

  • @bradburchnell2341

Oh my goodness my friends. My heart breaks for you. You two have been my safe haven as I’ve rebuilt my life over the last three years. You two are extraordinary people to me. Sending love, care, and prayers to you both.

  • @davidcarter1177

My heart goes out to you and all the families on the lake. I also wish there was a better way for the A.G.F.C. to complete what they want to accomplish. There truly is no reason to drain the lake completely.

  • @louisaziz1235

Cole and Jay, two of my favorite people, one of my greatest concerns is that big developers are going to attempt to take over the area. The argument that they will use is that developing the area will bring more revenue to the state and county. So glad that you will still be here for us. Perhaps, if you could find an endangered species, you could have the draining process stopped. One can only hope.

  • @johnreiter4889

    Cole & Jay,

  • @cindywachendorfer8972

So sorry to hear this news. I am with you Cole, I would be totally mad, depressed, and hopeless. Throughout your video you both tried to be so positive. My compliments.

I'm with ya. I grew up fishing with my dad on that lake & hoped to take my "young" grandchildren there to fish soon. But now by the time the lake is "fishable" again, my grands won't be that young anymore. And I feel for folks like you who live on the lake and raising a family there. Lets hope they figure out a way to get their work done and start filling the lake sooner than expected but I'm not holding my breath. All the best to you guys!
