  • What are the worst invasive fish species? In this video I will be trying to that question and many others you may have about invasive fish species. An invasive species is any plant or animal that has be introduced into an ecosystem where it doesn't belong, normally having negative impacts on native animal and plant species. Invasive fish don't only endanger native fish species but they can also cause millions of dollars worth of damage.

Our first problem invasive fish species the largemouth bass. The largemouth bass is one of the most popular game fish in north America but when it is imported to countries outside of it's native range then it can become a problem invasive species.
Our next invasive fish species is the climbing perch. Although the climbing perch is a small fish, it is almost the perfect model for a successful invasive fish species as it is very adaptable and can travel short distances on land.
Our next Invasive fish species is the channel catfish. The channel catfish isn't the largest catfish in north America as the flathead catfish and the blue catfish are larger but it is the most numerous catfish in north America. This catfish has been imported to Europe where it feeds on the smaller native fish.
Our Forth invasive fish species is the pacu. There are a few species of pacu but they are all related to the piranha. Pacu have become invasive in the USA as they are often kept as pets and released into the wild.
Our last invasive fish species is the pink salmon. The pink salmon is a pacific species of salmon but has been introduced into Russia and has since spread into other European countries. This salmon invasion puts pressure on the native salmon.
What do you think is the worst invasive fish species?
Let me know in the comments below?

So this is not a fish, but it is a massive invasive species here in the Netherlands. I am talking about the red American crayfish as we call it (Procambarus clarkii, Latin name). There is almost nothing here that predates on them and they are really destructive, European crayfish are an extremely rare sight because of them. I am literally able to find them in my backyard in large numbers and from what I have found on the internet there are other countries where this crayfish causes a lot of trouble as well

We got some pacu in Thailand and it makes me caught migraine when I see the baby pacu labeled as “Lucky Silver fish.” on release at the temple whose located near the river. If that temple’s area got pacu, you are guaranteed that there will be no smaller native fish and the fruits there that drop the food into the water is eaten out. Climbing perch is native here and we eat them too. Out of the list, I want to eat the climbing perch and pacu fries and grilled, Largemouth bass steak, Catfish nuggets and catfish sautéed in Thai spicy sauce, and pink salmon sashimi.

Hello. At least here in Brazil, the pacu sold as aquarium fish is only, or mainly the silver pacu, Metynnis argenteus, which does not reach 15 cm and is also native here.
Its natural dispersal appears wider than that of larger species. It's more invasive, too. Fishermen call it "CD" and doesn't appreciate it.
Gregarious and greedy plant eater, best for big aquariums without plants, in groups of five, at least.

Just a note: European catfish are unable to efficiently predate Channel catfish. Its rather the opposite case, as S. glanis often dies from channel catfish stuck in their mouth. We are also seeing declines in the populations of European catfish following the introduction of Channel catfish in many areas in Southern Europe.

    Invasive specie
In Romania there is an invasive type of Catfish that looks like a bullhead cat, green, small and they can also live on land for some period of time. We call it “somotei”. Some people Say that they came from Africa and a rich man emported them in the Herăstrău lake, and now they are all over Romania. 🐟

Facepalm. "Somotei" is the wels catfish under a meter. Your refering to the african catfish wich actually dies in the Winter. The invazive catfish in Romania is the bullhead catfish.

During the summer salmon fishing season in Newfoundland and Labrador this year there has been 3 pink salmon caught, the fisheries and oceans department think they are from the Russia. Hopefully they don’t move into our systems where our wild Atlantic salmon would have to compete for food and spawning grounds even harder than they already do

Strange, here in france we got some largemouth bass that were introduced. They are in most area strick nokill game. I guess its because we got zander, pike and Wels Cat that can regulate them and they prey on a bigger probleme, the louisiana crawfish

you should specify the difference between asian or silver carp to common carp in the USA because a lot of people think Buffalo and Common carp are invasive

0:40 The largemouth, smallmouth, spotted and other centrarchid bass are not the same family as the striped, yellow, and white bass which are more closely related to groupers.

Channel catfish pop up randomly in southern us ponds and creeks, birds eat the catfish eggs fail to digest them and poop them out in a new body of water, flooding and winds sends the eggs and baby catfish everywhere.

Largemouths and channel cats are invasive in a lot of the US,also. In the NW we have them everywhere, and not native. But there is a bounty on Northern Pike Minnow, though those are native, and there are actually limits on the bass and catfish.

In Malaysia, the Climbing perch is called a "puyu". I used to catch them as a child in a creek, and I kept 2 of them as pets, turns out they are rather nasty buggers too, one day I came home from school, to find there is only one of my fish left. the bigger fish has eaten the smaller one. another time, my aunt brought back a load of beautiful guppy fish, but she kept the guppies in the tank that I kept the puyu temporarily. suffice to say the puyu got a lot beautiful snacks to the dismay of my aunt......

I think we're lucky in Ireland because you can count our invasive species on your fingers and invasive fish are controlled by our Monster Pike. We do have that pink salmon but they only spawn every 2 years and as far as we know Scotland takes the bulk as only 2 or 3 have been recorded in Irish rivers
But Irelands fishing while is very fun there's very little species to fish for in freshwater. There is also widespread but unconfirmed reports of catfish (shaetfish and brown bullhead) but I've never seen them here
