i really love the layout to ur videos, compared to other youtubers. Its refreshing and super satisfyin, I dont really like when most of a keyboard video is someones face.

Dude .. the editing style of your video is freaking awesome, and the build came out clean! Congrats how do you like it so far?
I've been enjoying it a lot. The switches have a gentle tactility that is really pleasant to type on. Whether I've been working for 6 hours straight or returning to my desk after some sleep, they always feel incredible. The Q1 itself is really great as well after all the mods. As far as budget boards go, it's about as close to end game as I'll get for a while.
That’s a nice way to custom made a Keychron Q1. Have buy a modded Keychron C2 RGB Keyboard and it type super smooth and fast. Now I want do’t my self and the Keychron Q1 is a great base Keyboard to build a custom Keyboard which I want to learn. The Keychron C2 Keyboard works great on the Vampire V4 Standalone maybe the Keychron Q1 work also on it. If not than it’s a great Keyboard to learn on it.
How if I'm just mode the foam and put some tape without doing anything else, will it sound good?

awesome editing! I really enjoyed your style. Thanks for breaking down how you did the mods too. I just got mine with Gateron Pro Red Switches and Knob. I didnt find the board to ping, i think they added more gaskets? Anyway I literally kept pretty much everything stock and only did the tempest tape mod and PE foam and it ended up sounding like yours LOL. I have the Q1 V2 btw.

Entertaining to watch! Very RPG. The Design is Very Human. I'm a Laser/Neon/Player keycap fan.
Do you recommend car dampening foam or a silicone sheet? Is there still enough flex with the 2mm thick car dampening foam?
The 2mm car foam is a little too thick if you still want noticeable flex. I would recommend silicone if you don't mind raising the pitch of your board, but Keybored has a link to 1mm thick car foam in his video description. I didn't use it cause I'm cheap and had leftover 2mm from before.

I made the mistake of buying a Keychron K7. What I received was NOT wireless (no dongle included) and, when connected by USB cable, many keys did not work. When I asked Keychron for an RMA, they demanded that I send them a video proving that I had not falsified the results of their keyboard test. Keychron has ignored all my subsequent requests for an RMA and a refund.
There are many reputable companies making keyboards. Before buying anything from Keychron, think! Do you want to give your money to a company that treats its customers this way?

hey man - what thickness would you say the PE foam you used is? I see some on amazon that is 1/8th inch and also 1/16th of an inch. Any suggestions?
I would say I use 1-2mm PE foam. I got it as packing foam from some of my gf's furniture, so I don't have exact measurements. If you plan on using both tape and PE foam, try using the 1/16" or 1mm as the combo can be sound overdone if you use too much.

Also which switches do I buy from the link? The salmon or tecsee golden? If it’s the tecsee golden is it linear or tactile
You would have to buy both if you were to use the same switches as in the video. Also the goldens are tactile only, so you shouldn't have to worry about different types.

You got scammed
This video is single handedly the main reason I bought the Q1 just to try customizing a keyboard for the first time. I was using the Keychron K2 since March 2020 and that was my first mechanical keyboard ever. Since then, after re-assembling the Q1 with all the recommended mods, replacing the switches, lubing and filming, the difference between my first keyboard and this was night and day. I can never go back.. I followed your recommendations for modding the Q1 and it’s thanks to your visual and interactive dialogue that guided me, made me less nervous and moreso excited to take on something new. I really felt engaged and moved by the effort you put into making this video along with every other video you’ve put out and you’re easily one of my favourite keyboard channels.
