I found Monica at my local library in France. I didn't know this author but got drawn to the gorgeous art. That was a really good read! A bit enigmatic :)
I understand what the original poster meant, I think the interviewer was nervous and trying to have a more academic discussion where Dan was more laid back. She was also constantly checking her notes and making pointless annoying agreement sounds while he was talking. A little cringey but yea I'd probably be nervous to interview Dan as well so no judgement here. @@ScottyC1972
Yeah, I had a hard time with it too. I'm sure she was doing her best, but this interview wasn't for me. Huge Clowes fan, prefer the Cartoonist Kayfabe interview style and experience. @jamesfain1236 @@badteethtv
Not at all. David Boring is the only book I can see the influence. Everything he does is definitely Clowes. It's not all about the artistic style. His storytelling is his own.
You are correct at least in my humble opinion...his style can be appealing, but Clowes seems totally condscending. I did like his Dan Pussey character though. Im more excited by an artist named Frank Santoro.
That last answer to the question was worth the watch

This feels like if Dan Clowes was in a job interview.
Especially the part when he opens up about the deaths of his family. Just like a job interview! ;)

There definitely feels a bit like that sometimes.
Dan Clowes is a Genius💥

So happy you all recorded these. I was bummed that I missed this talk
Thank you for taping this.
“monica” is really great - my favorite since the end of “eightball”
Wonderful interview ❤️
If you are cynical don't use emojis
Thanks for sharing!
Is it me, or did anyone else feel like the person conducting the interview doesn’t read comics?
Just you
Definitely - totally unwatchable

def not.@@jamesfain1236
I love the Ohhh.... OH.... ooohhh....
The interviewer looks like a character Clowes would mock in one of his books
He reminds me of the photorealist painter, Robert Bechtle, who was also from the SF Bay Area.
The GOAT!

Why did his style evolve to be Charles Burns? Clowes’s early ‘jaggy’ style was so much better
Because Charles Burns actually makes good comics.

Most overrated dude in comics. He makes cartoons for spoiled art school nerds who live in expensive, gentrified neighborhoods.
Eightball is inarguably one of the best comics ever.
@@DonTheMoron716 Hahahahahaha. Yeah, if you're one of the spoiled art school kids with bad taste that I mentioned.
