What is amazing to me is how informal their work areas are. Reaching a global audience from a desk in a kitchen, pencil and paper and that's it. How remarkable

This is a fantastic documentary, just as much a work of art as that of all the brilliant cartoonists. Thank you for sharing it on TH-cam.

Every cartoonist in the New Yorker and in general owes you a debt of gratitude for showing how beautiful a cartoonist life is. I can have everything in the world all the money and all the materialistic things anybody would want. And feel absolutely unfulfilled without my ability to draw cartoons. And in the same breath have absolutely nothing and feel completely fulfilled simply sitting at my art table drawing cartoons. Cartoonist are poets that chose to turn letters into faces. I am a graffiti artist I've been doing graffiti since I was 8 years old. And just recently realize that this was also meant to be my life. So now I do political cartoons as a hobby. And I love it. I believe every single art piece your mother did what's more than New Yorker quality. Beautiful documentary.

Really well written and thought out. The story of a woman and her passion. Drawing is just that...Passion. Being in a well established magazine or newspaper is beyond this world but to me a mom was the best. Great to see the other cartoonists too and listening to their concepts etc. All the best in more videos on art, drawing etc.

I have 4 old copies of the New Yorker. From 1932, 35, 42, and 44. Most of the fancy stores advertised have closed. The plays are long gone. They don’t run cigarette ads anymore, but the cartoons are still funny.

Being from Los Angeles I've always noticed the difference between attitudes, opinions, and yes, humor between the east coast people and the west. I learned a lot about cartooning from this video. Also the age of the cartoonists.

You know what? I´m smiling when I´m watching this documental....and I don´t smile! I´m not an easy laugh.
I doodle and do some cartoon once in a while as a side job...but this ingenious one-draw cartoons are really something amazing. Appear simple but they have a lot of stuff going on, insights and art. I would love to do something like that.

    Freaking brilliant video documentary!! ❤
I was watching a video of Bruce McCall recalling his childhood where he he says his parents had stacks of New Yorkers in their house, it was their "beacon of civilization," and I glanced down to my stack of New Yorkers 🤣
My favorite (aka easiest) character to cartoon is myself, I have many cartoons of myself in my sketchbooks where I muse about cartooning for the New Yorker which is, of course, why I will never be a cartoonist for the New Yorker 🤣🤣
I did sell two cartoons to the slick scifi magazine Vertex in the early '70's...what prompted the editor go buy them I'll never know, looking at them now I groan in embarrasment!! 🤣
One of my favorite cover artists is Jean-Claude Sempe! I adore his simplicity and charming outlook on the world ❤

being able to draw is one thing. but when I get a decent original idea(and they don't flow like water), that's what's priceless. like the Starbucks cartoon .the draftsmanship is more than adequate, but the idea is brilliant ! FUNNY! it's actually one of the best cartoons I ever saw.

Will watch later. Thx so much! In 60s as a kindergarten kid would read these and I think Punch from UK, and Der Spiegel, and wonder what the hell was occurring in "the outside world". Then in 72, discovered MAD and figured it out in a few years. Along with Neil young and Simon&Garf, grand funk, Chicago, etc. Thx again. Not to thebeatle$$
