- here's an update and maintenance video of a rainfall paludarium that I made a 49 days ago.
how to make a rain paludarium- • i made a terrarium rai...
the main concept of this project is to bring nature home in smaller scales.
having such miniature landscapes not only add beauty to your living scapes, also the visual effects like natural light or FLOWING water, help reduces stress levels and improve moods.

i just finish watching the first video of this and got curious what happen after, i feel like this will be a very good hobby to make my mind at peace after hrs of work, its like a mini forest
Thank you for the update! I think this is my favorite DIY anyone has ever made.
Thank you
Wonderful, someday I will make it myself
Oh wow. I expected it to be moldy mess but so beautiful kept!
Aluminium plant is a great fit for this setup! Have you thought about adding a cleanup crew? no need for slaters in there but a few springtails would remove any mould before it becomes visible. Thank you for this update, I love this paludarium!
You should add holes to the upper top cover for ventilation, airflow. The ones to made in the drip tray are covered by the lid. :)
I noticed that bit right away.... 😁
ikr i was so confused. like what is the point of those holes then
I made one like this, based in the first video. I’m 2 weeks in and so far so good. But, I only ‘turn on the rain’ for an hour or so each day - seems like it would stay too wet otherwise. Holes for aeration were a great addition in this video!
is the pump loud?
@@Covid-me1xf I used a USB pump, similar to the one in the video. It is not loud. The sound of dripping water drowns out the sound of the pump completely.
But, my terrarium isn’t doing great. It’s staying too wet and the moss and other plants are suffering. I should have made a better false bottom so the water drains through faster and used a faster draining soul mix. Anyway, a fun project and will probably have another attempt in the future. I think a small area of a bigger terrarium with this feature would be easier. E.g. rain falling into a ‘pond’ that is fully separated from the rest of the build.
I was wondering how long could you run it daily
@@marieellis6084 my moss and plants stayed too wet, but with adequate experience and better selections than mine (e.g. varieties that are suitable for an aquarium) I am pretty sure you could run the rain constantly.
@@nathanmillard is there a certain thickness to the walls? The soil mixture that is used... I assume over time the roots of the plants will grow totally through it and become a total mass 🤔 i realize some plants have shallow root systems but plenty variety of aquarium plants ive seen with huge long roots
This is therapeutic!
We always watch youtube rain, waterfall, stream sound.
Its white sound.
It will help you relax, destress & hopefully restore your mental health while you sleep.
This rain system is such a good system go use! Wi definitely think about this for my next build
This week has been the hardest week of my life. The videos you produce are incredible in the sense that they are the only thing I can find that make me feel at peace again ❤ God bless you, and keep making these amazing videos :)
Thank you so much.
May God bless you too🙂
Brilliant tank. I love seeing peoples' builds after they have had time to establish and grow in.
Beautiful work. Thank you for showing us. I am thinking about making one. I think it would look better if the drip tray was concealed more, so maybe make the paludarium a bit taller, and make the top box a bit deeper to conceal the drip tray…..but I would not know this if you had not shown us how, so thank you again. 😊
Such a gorgeous and relaxing piece 😊
i love it so much thanks you for this update !!
Incredible, Beautiful ❤
I am a nature lover, tha kyou for putting up this video, i am encouraged to make one
Thank you for this video! 😀💐
Love this! First tine i've a rainfall paludarium! Im thinking of using all aquarium plants to grow in that constant water contact. I wonder if the holes can be made smaller and the hose smaller also and yes a little hole on the lid for some of the humidity to escape? Thank you for sharing this ❤
Bro that's incredible!
Great work. Maybe if the top wood frame was thicker, we could not see the drops. Would look more natural
So glad to see it's doing well. I expected rotting due to the high moisture, and possibly a leak but this looks like it held up great!
That's why choice of materials is so important. And maintenance, of course - removing dead plant matter especially. I think it would be even easier to make it bigger and add some springtails and some centipedes that can deal with the moisture to get a natural composting cycle going. You already have denitrifying bacteria in the clay balls to convert the poo into nitrates which subsequently fertilizes the water again so it doesn't lose all the nutrients as fast, encouraging plant growth. Honestly, if you just put some fertilizer into the water every week, you probably wouldn't even have to change water at all. Of course use distilled or reverse osmosis water in the first place and this could be pretty easy to maintain. Provided it's large enough to support a stable, subsistent miniature eco system, of course.
@Nitidus you are obviously experienced and know your stuff!
very beautiful
Still looks cozy af
This is just so cool
I could sleep to that sound!
When you replicate nature you can expect great things
Espetáculo para os olhos e para a alma
love the idea i love rain fall sounds and seems like this will be perfect to work in or while in the bed trying to sleep
Thanks
I have never subscribed to or liked a channel as quickly as yours. Your work is exceptional and soothing to watch. Please continue producing such remarkable content.
Thank you so much🙂
Wow, nice one. Love this video!!
Thanks
This is the first time I found this type of tank. Thumbs up for the creativity and final effect. But how do you keep the mud on the wall from falling off, since it is only adhered?
This is a great looking tank. I made a drip-wall terrarium five months ago but the plants that get hit by the water rotted away including the ferns. Your build seems more successful in avoiding rot and fungus.
I had a setup that lasted ~year before I had to move and I took it down, I just had the dripping on during the mornings and evenings and off the rest of the time.
How do plants in a rainforest survive but when we overwater plants they die
Man how peaceful i hope i can make that looks cool thank you bro for such a nice terrarium😊
Thank you so much
Try adding spring tails. It would make it more interesting.
You could add some different organisms that would break down the plant matter. This definitely needs some tree frogs. It's beautiful
Also, I would have added holes in the top piece above where you added extra for better exchange, to allow more air flow in and out
great work❤❤❤
Thanks
Bro , it's really a great work , keep it up . Thanks for this amazing stuff .
Thank you
What do you think about increasing the thickness of the top wooden section to hide the drips? I feel like seeing the drips takes away from the rain illusion. This is beautiful though I adore it.
Thank you, I too fell I should've increased the thickness of the top wooden section
my thought exactly
I really and truly enjoy your work it’s absolutely amazing! If you want a way to keep the water clean so you don’t always have to change out the water try using Activated Virgin Carbon (instead of bottom layer of rocks) it constantly keep systems clean and and the water purified.
Thank you, I'll try it for sure
@@langdiy lang Can I have a list of all the plants in it? Thank you very much.
1) hypnum moss
2) begonia grandis
3) Selaginella
4) bladder ferns
5) fern moss
Bonjour ,
Awesome Bro Loved your Work ❤ Happy to see like this videos
Thank you🙂
beautiful💙💙💚💚💚💚💙💙
Thanks
Tu gères
I seen your tabletop moss video and come to your page. Appreciated your work and subscribed your channel, watched all videos. Will love to see your new videos. Keep making such simple yet beautiful things
Thank you so much
Its amazing bro... Keep more videos... 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks
Imagine it starts its own little evolution and one day you notice little people cutting the plants to make small buildings and go to work. You will be GOD to them!
Make a new earth if you can!!
When did you add the wood to the terrarium?
I love your vids bro !
Thanks
i am surprise how your pump doesn't clogged yet. Mine clogged so many times.
Make another one - much taller - hide the drip tray behind wider wood slats, and use smaller holes for smaller drops of water.. also, your ‘holes for aeration’ seem to be capped by the lid to the drip tray, their chimneys need to be higher and cutout through the lid.
It’s beautiful, by the way, my nasty mouth notwithstanding. I do however think it could be improved by being taller, the drops being smaller, and the drip mechanism and light hidden behind a larger mask of wood. Also, someone mentioned sprintails! Good idea. What about making the drip lid itself from a 2-way mirror, so that light from above passes through, but looking up from below with the light off would just show a reflection of the tank below.
And lastly, it just came to mind after reading so many comments about it being too wet - I’ve an idea that might be of use. Separate the mud on the walls from the water reservoir - let the only water it receives be from the rain. Then you can turn it on when the soil starts getting dry, like a normal houseplant, sort of - i mean, at least you get to decide - IF the soil is kept seperate from the reservoir in the rocks.
Im about to make my own and your comment makes a lot of good points! I like the idea of the 2-way mirror. Thanks!
Maybe put the pump on a timer for afternoon/evening rain shower and introduce some isopods for dead plant matter?
My most favourite design is ❤❤❤❤
Thank you🙂
What stops the drip tray from sliding down the inside? I feel like the natural weight + the water weight would slowly cause it to slide down? Amazing work btw! This is a GORGEOUS project!!
I wonder if i can plant herb thats i can use for eating too it fresh to plant my own but not sure if it posible ? Need your expertise for advice thank you new subscriber just found your Chanel your work is amazing
reminds me of the game rainworld
if you want pops of color try adding some mastivalia orchids or dracula orchids to the sides they thrive in high humidity
Maybe next step would be to make the rain scale down? The drops look disproportionate to the size of the paludarium.
THIS SIDE OF TH-cam😌😌😌😌😌
Wow
Thank you
The most relaxing video I've watched in so long! Do you leave the water on all the time? Or is it on a time cycle?
Thank you
I keep the water run for 6 hours a day
Was curious for if i build one in the future, do you leave it on 24/7? And how to you change the filter around the pump if it gets too dirty without wrecking the whole set up?
I want to buy this :D
put frogs and springtails in it. the springtails will eat the dead leaves
Came across your video and find it interesting.
However, how do you fix the light if you are using drip tray on the the top ?
좀 만 더 구멍이 촘촘했으면 ㅎㅎ
Spectacular video, incl. the build!!! Thanks for sharing this. 🥰
Could you show us how you light the set-up? I assume it's a very low watt LED hanging over the set-up?
At the end of the 49 days some of the moss /ferns looked a bit tired/pos. hungry from not having enough nutrience in the water? Do you use rain-/ or RO water for these set-ups? Do you provide any addition "food" like a weak algea solution or anything (poss. applyed by external spraybottle once every 1-2 weeks)?
Thank you so much🙂
In next video I'll show my light setups,
It's a lamp with a 6 watt led hanging over the setup.
I used tap water.
The substrate I used has a high amount of nutrience, currently not adding any addition food.
I'll try to make it 😅
Superb! Which type of light is best for this setup
I was wondering if there could be a way to switch the water pump if that one ever breaks?
Nice one....how many hours do you keep in on in rain mode?
nice going, what are you using for your light if i may ask?
I wish you’d make it viable for like a dart frog or something 🐸 could make a good pet habitat. And fun to look at
I'll make one soon🙂
I love your paludarium! could you give me the name of the pump and the led light?
Can you please tell me what kind of pump you use to suck the water out of the tank when you connect the tubes? Is it two of the same pumps??
Definitely on top of my project list to do. Its very cool!!!!!! But may i ask? Do you leave it on 24/7? And is there like something more colourful plants that i can used which will be suitable? Thank you in advance. Really glad this came up on my youtube feed.
Thank you so much!
I don't keep the pump on for more than 6 hours a day. You can use pink fittonias or diastema affine, these are great colourful terrarium plants, but I'm not 100% sure that it'll be suitable for such setups.
@@langdiy Alright. Thank you so much!
@@langdiy @axzeralzane9799 Buchephelandra should be extremely well suited for this setup! Anubias will do great too, but they are not colorful. nana petite and other small leaved variants wont outgrow a wet terrarium though and you can have them under running water 24/7. Lots of aquariumplants that have an emerse growth will do fine!
tried to tagg you but it didnt seem to work. Have a look at buchephelandra! they're sold as aquariumplants but naturally grow in and on the sides of jungle streams and would do very well in a setup like this. they do fine under running water 24/7, as do a lot of other plants sold for aquariums. Have a look at aquariumplants that are grown emerse, all of them should be suitable.
Could you link the aqua soil that you used for the wall of the terrarium? Thank you.
how long is the lifespan of a terrarium like this with proper maintenance? Thanks :)
Is there a small critter that could be added to tank that could eat the fallen leaves? Might help reduce the frequency that maintenance is required beyond trims.
You can add isopods.
how do you prevent the glass from getting fungus or dirty with so much humidity?
hi! Im wondering, did you leave the water pump on all day? Or like timmer controled? Great job by the way!!
Thank you
I don't keep the pump on for more than six hours a day.
How does the background hold up long term
Beautiful! How often do you switch it on to water it? Also, where do you get the plants and dirt from? Is there a website?
Thank you
You can buy plants and dirts from Aquascaping stores and also from online marketplace. Do not keep the pump on for more than 6 hours a day.
@@langdiy Youre awesome! thanks for that info, have a great day! :)
This Terrarium stay in a location with natural light? the plants need some form of direct light ?
I keep it in a place where it receives indirect sunlight.
inspiring, one doubt what about light source? we need to keep in bight light area?
An LED would be sufficient, you can also keep near a window
How beautiful it is. Could you please name the plants should be use?
Thank you. Use java moss , Selaginella, Fittonia, bladder ferns
Could you provide a list of plants used and how much time per day do you let the rain drop ? Pls answer ... Amaizing job bro , just amaizing
1 selaginella
2 begonia grandis
3 fern moss
4 bladder ferns
5 pilea cadierei
I let it rain for 1 to 6 hours a day, sometimes just few minutes to water the plants.
Where do you find the dirt? How does it not fall off?
Hi! Where did you get the wood frames?! This is so beautiful.
Hardware store
question? do you keep the water running most of the time or do you have moments when you stop the rainfall ?
I don't keep the pump on for more than 6 hours a day.
did you put springtails or isopods to eat the decompose leaves?
No, I remove the dead leaves
How does the lighting work?
don't it need O2, CO2 from outside?
Can u please do more of those lost world aquariums
Yes I'll do more lost world aquariums
The bug that made it inside: DUDE WHEN WILL IT STOP RAININGGGG
how ur glass is still clear when the water drops?
they don't need sunlight ?
where do you from? I want buy this tank.
Can you show light ? How do you fix?
Can you list the plants you used in the whole setup please? Definitely going to try and emulate this project 👍
1) hypnum moss
2) selaginella
3) begonia grandis
4) bladder ferns
5) fern moss
@@langdiy Hi, thank you for the list! Would it be possible to try other rocks or does it have to be the type of rock you put inside yours? I think the rocks here in my area are different from what you used.
You can use any rocks
@@chesterallantangub8758you should be able to use any rocks, but make sure they aren’t polluted with lead or oil
does it require sun light, or it can be survive in artificial lights...❤❤❤
It can survive in artificial lights
