Yeah, Band-Maid is the real deal. Over the top talented every single member and they have an unbelievable chemistry... It is really tough to play what they do with all the change of pace, pauses, solos and patterns. I am always impressed that they are able to remember all this stuff in round about 120 songs, for me it would be impossible. Sorry to hear you did not get a ticket, i am here sitting in Germany and still waiting for an EU announcement, i hope i gonna see them in 2023 i think they will not come here this year, which s*cks...

You hit on a point in their song composition: the mastering of rests/pauses. At a pause you anticipate what is to come next based on formulas established for the genre; when the song continues as anticipated there is a feeling of fulfilment, when something other than anticipated appears one is surprised or shocked. Band Maid uses this to great effect: will it be the standard or something new? This heightens and intensifies the anticipation created by their pauses.

Definitely, Their songwriting is masterful. But My favourite for interesting song writing, (stop, start, fast, slow, hard, soft) is SOKONINARU, they mix it up like no other (well mabey MTH can do it too )

Always enjoy your Bandmaid reactions, especially since you're a musician. Never be afraid to pause as your insights are appreciated. Many reactors just let the song play and then say "that was great" while providing no insight. I recommend you react to Onset next which is a brilliant hard rock instrumental.

I regards to Akane (drums) and Misa (bass) they went to the Tokyo School of Music together which make them having the longest
tenure of playing together. This combined with their insane talent makes them the best rhythm section I have ever heard !!!!!

Daydreaming, Blooming, Puzzle, Moratorium, Wonderland, Corallium, and many, many more. It's always hard to pick a top 5/10. Your favorite track will almost always be the next one you listen to. I'm enjoying watching your journey.

One of the best bangin' live performances they have on. It is so hard to choose a "favorite" for me because every time I hear another song I like that one the best then the next and so on. What can you say, all their music is so happy and heavy (for the most part) and fun to listen to.

  • @lurkmerchant
    @lurkmerchant 2 ปีที่แล้ว

When it comes to band-maid music comes first before technicality. I mean they can do technical stuff if they want to, but it's only when their music needs it. Many songs by them tell the story with their instruments as well as the vocals, it's almost like watching impressionist sometimes. I see many technical bands, prog bands, experimental bands in Japan's music scene these days and they all are amazing but this band is different. I can't fully explain it.

this is a great live by them - watch the original mv and you will love the aesthetics as it was filmed in a japanese temple - just too cool to pass up. plus it was the first MAID song i ever heard in 2016 as my introduction. the only thing that i notice is that in the chorus in the original recording saiki goes just a bit minor in her vocals which really sounds great. in the live she is a tad above that minor chord and it sounds different. not bad but not quite the same

Great reaction and very pertinent comments that highlights a lot of same reasons that most of us fans love this band. Did you notice that Saiki was barefoot at the beginning of the song? She took off her shoes to go into the ladies section in the song before this and didn't get a chance to put them on until the guitar solo, that was why MISA came over to tease her about her shoes being missing.

Following the structure of a Band-Maid song can be quite the adventure sometimes. There's more than a few songs of theirs where you realize, at the end of the song - you're not even listening to the same song anymore. You started at A, ended at B, and you have no idea how they managed to navigate the path between them. It's fucking magical.

Akane is the band leader and always starts their songs and sets the pace throughout. Paired with MISA, they form one of the world's best rhythm sections (I mean JPJ and Bonham/Bruce and Baker/ Moon and Entwistle level) and when the other three join in, they become THE best band on the planet. Their song structure does follow the normal Rock pattern for about half the song - Verse, Chorus, Verse, Chorus, Breakdown - but then, instead of following that with the usual Chorus to Fade, they change it up in an unexpected way for the final third, often beginning with an extended breakdown of solo bass and lead guitar (possibly with drum and rhythm guitar breakdowns added to the mix) then some drastic change to a faster or slower rhythm and melody, then either a meticulously precise break/rest and back into the final chorus and/or verse before raising the tempo at the end to epic scales of controlled chaos before slamming to a stop on a dime. And, of course, the whole song is usually overlaid with various little guitar riffs and licks and drum and bass fills scattered around like musical jewels. Obi-Wan-Kanami is the 21st century Mozart as far as her composing skills go and Miku has a Lennon/McCartney or Dylan level of lyric writing, Saiki can move through 3 octaves without a hint of vibrato and can sing whole verses at a very fast pace apparently on a single breath (DICE or BLOOMING spring to mind as examples), MISA is a Mistress of Bass and could not only match any other player in the world but has mastered holding a pick in her curled finger so she can change from slapping to picking in an instant. Akane, apart from helping keep banana farmers the world over in riches, is, for me, the best drummer I've ever seen...and I've seen Moon, Baker, Cobham and Bonham live...or maybe the best I've never seen...yet! Hopefully, this or next year, they will come to the UK and I can fix that. Love your enthusiasm for the band and appreciation of all their skills and the sounds they produce together.

Saiki lost her shoes when she fell/was pulled into the women's section of the crowd at the end of freedom th-cam.com/video/xR7mjWC3ZaQ/w-d-xo.html. she was then on stage during this song shoeless which she points out to misa (who always plays barefoot) that is what caused the laughter. she then gets to put on her outdoor shoes during Kanami's solo during which you can see Kanami looking behind her to see if she needs to give saiki more time to get back. her shoes were returned after the concert by the way.
Also just to add to your comment on Misa and Akane being in synch with each other, Misa has said that one of the benefits of playing barefoot is that she can feel and anticipate Akane's drums through the floor

You've been hammering out their bangers, but a few years back they became very aware that people were getting exhausted at their concerts and wanted to make sure they had some less aggressive songs, which led to "Conqueror". From that album came "Wonderland". Just soul rending great ballad piece and LIVE version is on their YT channel from the Line Cube gig.

    Dear Jordan!
Greetings from Shizuoka where the coming spring means Mount Fuji hiding itself behind mists and cherry flowers blossoming all over the place!
This particular song is part of a real killer concert, and to think that it almost happened in a faraway past is mind-blowing!
Expect some real bangers this year after this long frustrating time away from their fans although they had the immense merit to organize online concerts!
They should have a big concert in Japan before their tour in October and I suspect that a new album is in the offing! Keep tight!
Have you noticed the singer Saiki embracing Misa the bassist before they knelt in front of each other. Actually, Saiki was barefoot because she had momentarily lost a shoe in the crowd1
    Utterly professional!
Thank you so much for another great reaction! Can't wait for the next one!
Take good care of yourself (ves)!
    Best regards,
    Robert-Gilles

Nice reaction! Your reaction is fun to watch! I've seen a lot of reactors that praised them but ended up with a few reaction. I'm so sad. However, I have seen them becoming true "maidiac" like those who are now opening the "Gaijin Guys" channel. I can feel it to you too. And what they all have in common is that they are all musicians and people who are familiar with music. Australia has my favorite great reactor called "Prymal Chaos". I hope you can help raise the popularity of Band-Maid with him. They wanted a performance in Australia in a previous interview. And as you said, I think the relationships within the band are reflected in the sound. I think their good relationship is a big factor in making us happy listening to their music.
