This is how my mom washed clothes when i was young. I have a scar running down my arm from getting it caught in the ringer back in 59 when I was 4. I still remember it. I guess how could you forget.
My ladies group has advised that cold water is fine for washing all your clothes as an energy saving measure. No need to add hot water. That being said, I do like using hot water for the white clothing along with bleach. I have a wringer machine also and so did my grandmother. I love that the next generation has discovered the greatness of these old beauties.
I've never been able to figure out how to use my 1957 maytag washing machine, thanks for this highly informational video! Keep doing tutorials for ancient appliances.
Ok Used these at my grandmothers house. What you do is wring it into a rinse bucket then wring it again dry. My grandmother would wring into the rinse water start the second load while the first was being hung on the line.
You don't have a large cooler you could put some water in to rinse with? It doesnt' have to be an "official laundry tub" just something to hold some clean water. 5 gallon bucket, a large cooler you could put some water in. whatever @@Auttieb
If you have a utility tub my mom wringed it out in to the tub filled w water then wring again hang to dry n drained it into the drain in floor under the utility tub it was a great machine there is a lint catch under the adjater be sure to clean only ours leaked a bit of oil from motor so we put down newspaper LoL 😫 I said it's being potty trained 😂😎
Pretty cool! ! I had a friend 30 yrs ago that used one for her family laundry as she couldn't afford a machine. Worked well for her. Sometimes I wish I had one.
And now you've learned why you don't wear gloves when working around moving machinery that can snag part of you. (At least gloves that might not easily rip apart.)
Thank you for not using bleach and using biodegradable soap. You're so smart. The other guys video he used bleach and toxic laundry soap and than he drained the water onto his plant 🤦♂️. I can't!
Take care of this machine and it will last for years. Very basic use. A little grease and maintain it regularly. No problem. In my opinion, these do a better job cleaning clothes.
I'm sorry to tell you something: BUT, even though ringer washing machines were still for sale in the 1957, they were already being supplanted by automatic washers and dryers. During that period my parents already had a Speed Queen automatic washer and dryer. Both my grandparents, and all our neighbors had automatic washers and dryers by 1957. You could STILL by a wringer washer at Montgomery Ward in 1985, but, few sold. This whole video implies that because his Maytag washer was from 1957, that this is what everybody used. Not true, wringer were obsolete by then.
I love how the kids think they discovered a new thing

I have seen it done that way before, but I don't have tubs large enough for that

Wringer washers get things cleaner

You did a great job. A bit too many clothes in that first load but other than that a nice machine and super demo!

Dude that’s awesome!!! Other than the early 2000s the 50s is my favorite era!!!
Can I buy this from you, I need it?
I have no words

Love a wringer
Loved your video
Pretty cool, kid! Thanks for sharing. Thankfully we are much more advanced nowadays.
corina silver it still works
Actually they hold alot of clothes but over load only just not clean as best
There's always a tradeoff. Modern machines do it all, but take hours per load.
Wringer washers were much faster.
Wow, looks like you put too much clothing in the load.
This is not the way we did laundry in my family in 1957. We used automatic washer and closeline to dry. Some families had sryers and used them
Hell yeah dude
Damn, aluminum agitator!
Nice video! 👍
U suppose to use powder
I have the same machine is that I use it all the time rape machine those are the best Maytag machines ever made
1940's not 1950s. They stopped making ringers in the 50s and were making automatic washers.
The model I have was from '56
Yes it is a late 1950s my mom had one when I was little
Maytag made wringer washers until November 1983. This is definitely a late 50s model.
don't you rinse your laundry?
good, but I prefer my amazing automatic washer!
