    Awesome video. I'll be watching this a few times over to install my incoming FMIC.

    I would recommend using the CXRacing piping but not the core. It flows pretty poorly. I used CXRacing piping and a TR1035 with a custom crash bar, made a huge difference in performance.

      Yeah, as experiments go, I am noticing a small difference between what i was getting with the TMIC vs this CX core. Should have a Treadstone core soon to compare.

    Great video as always Randy. I love that your build is by the books and you show every step of the way. My next mods will be internals, downpipe, and tune. Not sure if I want to commit to front mount yet.

    • @FiveFiveGarage
      @FiveFiveGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I wanted to experiment a little, I had been holding off on getting a front mount and just finally took the plunge. I am eager to test a Treadstone core and show the results. Part of the reason why I make the videos is because I figure people are doing the same things I am, and if I can help them with info, it will make the decisions easier.

    • @FiveFiveGarage
      @FiveFiveGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Gen 1 kit and the Gen 2 kit are different. I remember something about that when I ordered, that the kits had different part numbers. Then again, it might be 5 and I am remembering it wrong, my intercooler setup has changed a bit since this video was made.

    done installing it but shifting to 1-3-5 not working. idk why

    • @FiveFiveGarage
      @FiveFiveGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need to loosen your couplers on the cold side ( going to the throttle body) and rotate the piping to get the clearance you need for the shifter assembly (it sits very close to the piping on that side). Put the car in 1st gear and then adjust the piping clearance accordingly.

    Hey i can install my fuel pump internals and my downpipe without accesport ????

    • @FiveFiveGarage
      @FiveFiveGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pump internals, yes. Downpipe? You can* but I wouldn't.
      Adding the downpipe without an Accessport means that you can't tune to take advantage of the upgrade. You can't turn up the boost (stock map is 14.5 psi and when you free up the exhaust with the downpipe you will be hitting it quick), I would be very hesitant because without an Accessport you can't monitor any of the sensors (boost, knock - this one is VERY important, AFR) to ensure you aren't knocking or getting boost spikes on the stock map.
      For the health of your motor, get an Accessport. These motors are $$$$ to replace!

    I am looking to buy this product and was wondering if you would recommend it and why?

    • @FiveFiveGarage
      @FiveFiveGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The top mount intercooler, because of where it is sitting, gets heat soaked easily. If you are looking for something that will be slightly more efficient (moving the intercooler core to the front helps a lot) and you are still at stock power level this wouldn't be a bad purchase. If you are modded (higher than stock psi on the k04) or plan on going big turbo, I would recommend you get a much larger/more efficient core. I have already replaced this core with a Mishimoto S-Line core ( this video: th-cam.com/video/4c-ziqnmv50/w-d-xo.html ) and my IAT's and BAT's are cooler, the S-Line holds up to repeated pulls. I used the same piping, so if you wanted to get the CX Racing setup and then save for a better core, you can.

    • @FiveFiveGarage

      No, a tune isn't necessary.

    • @Checkers_123
      @Checkers_123 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      So just a plug n play and drive?

    • @FiveFiveGarage
      @FiveFiveGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep. You are basically making the intercooler more efficient, I would highly recommend that you would think about at least getting an upgraded base tune from an aftermarket tuner. That way you can take advantage of the intercooler, the stock tune and the OTS tunes aren't the greatest.

    • @Checkers_123
      @Checkers_123 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Five Five Garage Yes iam aware of cobb ots maps . But i am still in the process of gettin all the mods i need then puttin them all on almost at the same time so i can get dyno tune asap. Im go e30 tune! So im still prepping

    What did you do with the undertray? Mine doesn’t seem to fit with the CX core. Did you leave it off or cut it to fit?

    • @FiveFiveGarage
      @FiveFiveGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a ridge on the undertray that butts up against the bottom of the intercooler core. I used a dremel and trimmed that flat so that the core fits properly. Do not leave the undertray off. It helps pull the air through the radiator, leaving it off causes airflow issues underhood, especially now that the hoodscoop is allowing in air.

    Can you use a different bov like a hks on that kit ?

    • @FiveFiveGarage
      @FiveFiveGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use any bov that uses the two bolt mount. HKS you will probably need to replace the pipe with one with the HKS mount.

    Just put a full treadstone kit with the tr8 on my MS6!

    • @FiveFiveGarage
      @FiveFiveGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you have to do any cutting of the splash pan to fit that TR8?

    • @threedirty5455
      @threedirty5455 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Five Five Garage no! The core fits perfectly above the original air damn that pushes air to the radiator and ac condenser so my radiator will still get air flow, but my kit has a new crash bar bracket so it sits higher so cx pipes with a tr8 you probably will need to trim. Only trimming I did was to fog light shrouds

    • @FiveFiveGarage
      @FiveFiveGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Five Five Garage any time man! Just do some research on the fitment of your set up on a gen 2 speed. Just cause it’s a little different from my ms6 compared to your gen2 ms3

  • @matthewnivens7351
    @matthewnivens7351 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you plan on swapping the short block with the 2.5?

    • @FiveFiveGarage
      @FiveFiveGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No need to. The 2.3L DISI (not the same as the standard MZ3 ) engine is good up to 400 hp (some past that) with the corresponding mods. I don't see myself going over 400 hp right now (it gets expensive really fast) and I already have another DISI waiting to be built up, just haven't started on it.

    • @matthewnivens7351
      @matthewnivens7351 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Five Five Garage I’m saying the short block is a cheaper way of replacing a blown motor.

    • @FiveFiveGarage
      @FiveFiveGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I understand, I already have another Speed 3 motor, is what I mean LOL I want to rebuild it just fun of it but if that optimism wears off I will just contact speedperf6manc3.com and have one built. Or sell everything and build a turbo EG Civic in Championship white with red interior. That was oddly specific 😆

    But you end up with a larger volume so it not only takes longer to fill up to any given pressure but also recognize that if you have 20lb per square inch that's more than double atmospheric pressure and realize that's not just words they mean something. That times every square inch of inner wall surface area inside your pipes and system, is the pressure applied load only divided by the size shape and division of the parts themselves. So at least know that the longer a single pipe say 2.5 feet 4inch diameter makes for a circumference of 2x3.14=6.28inches squared the pipe is 30 inches long so 30x6.28= 180.84 square inches on such a pipe 20lb per square inch would try to plitt the pipe very hard too do yes but with a force equivalent to a 180 sq.in. x20lb=3600lb weight being pulled against gravity. Now pipes are strong and designed to distribute the load so the actual force trying to split it may be 4 or more times less I'm not sure but I do know you want shorter smaller or just mindful sizing and knowing where the most force on your set up is and make sure to clamp adequately at those spots. I hope this helped someone understand the pressure volume and square inches stuff a little better and it was worth typing for me
