This video made me cry, I applaud you for making your dreams a reality. I have never seen snow, or autumnal leaves as I have lived in Florida all my life. One day I will, one day. Thank you for your inspiring, comforting content. 🍂🍂🍂
I watched your video during cooking and gardening breaks today. After 2.5 hours when it ended I was a bit bummed that it didn't continue. I love being able to watch progress and seasonal change all at once.
Aw I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed this! I’m working on the next section now. The video would have been way too long and taken even longer to get out to you otherwise lol. Blessed be 🍂
I loved this video!!! I know that I will be able to transform my living situation and this video has fueled that fire. Thank you for sharing and I'm looking forward to what comes next.
I very much enjoyed this video. Thank you Afura for sharing it with us. I especially appreciate how you share when one of your experiments doesn't turn out as expected. Since you asked for input, I want to share that years ago I had some success battling slugs in a raised bed garden using beer traps. I used empty margarine tubs, buried so the lip was level with the top of the soil, filled about 1/4 of the way with beer, and spaced the traps about 5 feet apart. The first few days I was amazed to find a dozen or more slugs in each little tub. Then something interesting happened. The crows discovered my beer traps and it turns out that crows love drunken slugs. It would have been fine if they ate the slugs and flew away but for some reason the crows liked to pull my traps out of the ground and tip them over which was annoying. One other thought, as you start to research economical raised bed gardens options for next year, look online for people using cheap kiddie swimming pools. Not very attractive but some people have found them to be very productive.
my main critter's are the chipmunks and squirrels so since i have lived here my veg and herbs have always been in containers, but a couple years back i put in 2 raised beds. I also grow brussel sprouts mixed in the flower garden.....thank you for sharing quite the adventure
Oh wow I hadn’t even considered chipmunks as a potential garden pest. I only ever see them deep in the woods. Thanks for the tips and I’m glad to hear you’re making it work!
Thanks for a fun video! I love gardening. I did a similar method with the wood logs, cardboard and compost layers and found that slugs/rolly pollys are the worst in the first year when all your materials are breaking down. It does ease up though! I used potato wedges and oranges to move bulk slugs away from the baby plants and just keep planting. Eventually you will succeed! I also want to add its likely racoons who are digging up your cardboard, they are eating the grubs underneath. They are usually very consistent with where they choose the forage and will come back to that same spot for years...its a struggle haha nonetheless just keep planting! The things that work out make it worth it.
I loved this video. I tried a garden for the first time this year and I’m pretty sure rabbits snipped off every single plant down to the soil, so it was a total bust for the whole year, except one pea plant that grew 3 pods lol!!!! It didn’t even get taller than a foot.
Aw man that stinks! But good on you for trying. I figured out the best thing to do is put chicken wire cylinders around anything that’s being targeted by animals.
Hi! I watched your video closely, as me too I just moved with my partner into our dream house (which luckily is our own). So I also have a big garden, to do as I please and I saw your tree stumb beds- I will do one of those as well! Soooo lovely!
I was actually going to suggest raised beds. We have had decent success using them to combat ground hogs who would decimate our entire garden in a night. Sounds like you’re already considering that route.
Greetings Afura! What an awesome documentary you created. I must say, you are making the most out of your new space. Love those medieval fences that you put up. It's a shame that those pesky rats are eating your veggies. But, sometimes we have to do what we have to in order to preserve what we create. I think you balance it out by giving and doing those things for mother nature in order to help the planet. In wild life its always been survival of the fittest. Can't wait to get my new Starlight magazine! Lots of good information inside that I use. Can't see stopping anytime soon.😉 By the way, watch out for those "muscular spiders." 😂🤣Any how, looking forward to your next video. Blessed be to you and yours!
I’m so glad to hear that you enjoyed this, and that you understand about the wildlife thing. And thank you so much for ordering your copy of the magazine! Enjoy!
I used to work in pest control. Without pest control, we would suffer famines, or food shortages at least, further diseases and pandemics. Traps are the most humane, least contaminating of mouse control measures. I hope you had good luck
So glad to hear you enjoyed this! I had originally intended to plant on top of the cardboard with store bought substrate, but honestly it got too expensive, so I planted directly in the ground
I LOVE your content!! but please do something about the sound :( When you speak I only have sound on the left side and it is driving me crazy after listening for a few minutes :(
Thank you. I’m sorry to hear you’re having issues with the sound. When I listen to it on my computer and my phone with headphones and earbuds, I am not having that problem so I’m not sure why that’s happening for you 🤷🏽♀️
i understand your point of view with the pests, but at the same time im thinking of the diseases and whaterver they leave in your garden that then ends up in your food, rituals etc its not just about the survival of the garden but also about your health and your partners health

He is a joy!

You can do it!!!
The heat from your refrigerator may also kill your seeds , maybe placing the m on a high shelf in your basement.
thanks! They seemed to be doing fine there, but I've since also moved them into the larger box in another location.

Great video. Loved the snap dragon demonstration.
haha they're so fun! I just learned that last year.

Oh wow! You mean hogs as in pigs??
@@HedgeHearthAndHarvestthey probably mean groundhogs like the bigger gopher like animals

I’m glad to have your wisdom on that! I had no idea it could be such an issue in the garden but I’m learning a lot
Great video, but I'm curious why you decided to remove the weed barrier (cardboard) before planting and then add a different grass weed barrier? ❤❤❤
So glad to hear you enjoyed this! I had originally intended to plant on top of the cardboard with store bought substrate, but honestly it got too expensive, so I planted directly in the ground
Such a delicious treat! Thank you. May I know what happened to the baby moles---did their mama come get them or a predator?
There was no disturbance to the box at all and no sign of a struggle, so I’m sure the mother got them
1:15:02 Can you please tell me the title of that beautiful peace of music?
I dozed off and this piece woke me up from my slumber

Can I ask what the watered-down menstrual blood does foe the plants?
It’s a form of liquid fertilizer
@HedgeHearthAndHarvest I'm gonna gove that a try, because I've been taking tips frlm the video.
i understand your point of view with the pests, but at the same time im thinking of the diseases and whaterver they leave in your garden that then ends up in your food, rituals etc its not just about the survival of the garden but also about your health and your partners health
that's important too, and another reason why I'm doing what I can to keep things under control
