Another great production Kev. I had to go and get something to eat after I watched you cook up that delicious meal in the woods. Looking forward to the next one. Cheers
Don't worry about the comments greywolf. You are lucky doing this. And we sitting infront of this '"youtube"' commenting lol.Your video is raw.Really what happens, forget all the perfect bushcraft videos.Ive been there.
Just found this video. Here in New Zealand our forests are so damp it can be incredibly challenging to get a fire going. I like how you have done this. I like the high tarp set up which allowed you to have a flame underneath. Once the fire is established I would consider changing the tarp set up to block the wind. Maybe also build a heat reflector. This may allow the fire to continue outside the tarp (allowing a bigger fire but tarp is safe) but still survive the rain. Great vid. It got me thinking. Thanks mate.
Hi Greywolf, maybe this was the first video i watched of your channel, more than a year ago, but watching it again today, it is still a great video: hard but exciting weather conditions, a tarp, a fire and a hot meal...great adventure!
from my experience cover for the rain is a must, i've done it with a trash bag cut open wide, held at 6' tied to four trees by it's corners, this give you a fair amount of cover and the height keep the flames to not burn / melt the bag, or any sintethic tarp you use, ideally you can use a canvas tarp wich is a lot more resistan to heath. Also a firestarter comes in handy to overcome wood humidity (i carry cotton mixed with vaseline, easy to light with any spark from ferrocerium or any flame) pine pitch or fatwood or birch bark will do the trick as natural firestarters. also keep gather firewood very close to thefireplace to allow drying.
Good video. This is real life, and to think it`s done by one time or no " mistake ", is not how it is. - Thanks for a great vid. and thanks for sharing.
FYI:: This fire setup with no wind could be hazardous.. Sometimes I'll start a fire on my deck in fire pit with dry processed wood in no wind and get a flame 4 foot high.. With using only a small amount of wood.. Flame could destroy tarp in no wind.. Just Sayin...
Would it not be better to spark it directly on the "shavings" and not just on a small piece and then put it on the "shavings" that you had in a bundle?
hello there, the problem of sparks is real, actually my tarp has few holes due to this, bat is not a great deal to fix them. anyway it's not a big problem as long as it's raining because the outer side of the rain is wet and prevents the tarp from catching fire. anyway you can also put your tarp near the fire but not over it, as I did here th-cam.com/video/gQ8QF0fPttU/w-d-xo.html see you soon
In my experience, when you're under heavy rain and the tarp is completely wet on the outside, you won't have any problem with your fire. Anyway I use that configuration primarily in summer, if I need to make a big fire I change config of my tarp. I'll make another video for it, soon :) Thanks for your time
Very nice videos! I like your channel, subbed! One question: ¿how you know the fire will not burn your tarp? I I´m trying to lear how protect my fire from the rain with a tarp, and this is how I find your video. Thanks!
zeroa6 hello, if the rain on your tarp is heavy the external of the tarp will be completely wet and will cool down the internal side exposed to the fire, just pay attention at the distance between the fire and the tarp(small fire and high tarp...) Eventually if you understand the direction of the wind, you can put the fire just outside the tarp but using it to block the Rain windswept. See you soon my friend
JUST A HEADS UP MAKE YOUR FEATHER STICKS FINER KINDA LIKE PAPER AND PRE MAKE A TINDER BUNDLE SO AS SOON AS U GET A NICE LIL SPARK THAT TAKES YOU NOW MAKE IT A LITTLE EASIER TO GET YOUR FIRE GOING BUT I COULD B WRONG
+fede javia The knife is a Spyderco Bushcraft UK, it's pretty expensive but very dependable. I had it for more than a year but it cuts more than ever ;) Cheers
oh for heavens sakes...why waste all that energy carving up 15 tons of shavings...just bring some dang gasoline...and what's up with that shavings pile...didn't think about a hole to put the small flame in????? How about a video on how to wash your car....
Never said I 'm a teacher, I only like to be outside and to share my experience with my friends, if I do something wrong and someone gives me a hint, I will learn something new and that's perfect and I think this is the spirit of this community. Anyway it's good to know there are so many professionals like you to learn from. Cheers
+Greywolf Bushcraft No offense meant Mr. Bushcraft. Actually, I also want to learn from you. What I noticed, however, is the clumsiness - not necessarily that you don't know. I know you are trying hard and that the thing I like from you. Keep it up. Thanks for the reply.
+Monte Cristo Calling BS Monte as Greywolfs response made you look like an idiot. I also see from your vast array of bushcraft type videos you posted (zero in number) that you are in "good shape" to be critical of anyone. You don't want to learn, you just want to be entertained.

Vampyr _ thank you, see you soon on my channel
So what have you learned from this experience ? Would you change somethings next time ? Always great to film this, so you can improve next time.
I like it what a weather and wow ur effort to make it
try having your wood shaving much thinner. your wood shavings where too thick.they work better when they are very thin (like strings)
Good video. This is real life, and to think it`s done by one time or no " mistake ", is not how it is. - Thanks for a great vid. and thanks for sharing.
с погодой конечно не повезло , но так даже интереснее
Seems that the fire might burn your tarp!!
music earape at the end...rip my ears great vid👌
I would have gone with a plow point shelter to block the wind and rain on 3 sides,,,
Good video.I think you might need some fine chips of wood, better catch a fire.:-)
Will the storm, rain or snow come into the openings?
FYI:: This fire setup with no wind could be hazardous.. Sometimes I'll start a fire on my deck in fire pit with dry processed wood in no wind and get a flame 4 foot high.. With using only a small amount of wood.. Flame could destroy tarp in no wind.. Just Sayin...
Really enjoyed the video looked Cold and damp were you warm enough
So what do you guys do about bears and wolves.???
Maby the use of the Dakota fire pit because of the high wind
Liked your video.that said perhaps in those windy conditions a Dakota fire would have servred you better?

Bingo

excellent vid
is the tarp a man made fabric?
I am very wary of sparks on mine so seeing this is very informative.
cheers

see you soon
What kind of tarp are you using?
So far ..... Not so good !!!!
no risk for the tarp to be damaged by the fire ?
ClaudePetrovicR no risk if it's raining or snowing, see the other answer...
See you soon
thanks ! :)
Isn't it risky that tarp so low?
