I bought the EP 230 a month ago and tricked it out as a Fish Pro. I absolutely love it. Plus it’s a hoot to drive. I got 11 hours on it and it’s in the shop for its first service as per Kevin Shaw. I’m also adding a few more things. You will love it.
Explorer and Fish Pros have same hulls (ST3). Here in Australia explorer comes with pretty much everything that fish pro has except the cooler module from what I can see.
I grabbed the EP 170. It's definitely worth the money for what you get in terms of comfort and tech. I'm in my late 50's so zipping around doing 70+ mph isn't for me. Besides, I wanted to have a ski that's not too intimidating for my wife and grandkids to take out. Can't wait to fish from it like you.
Great review! I love your enthusiasm. I have a GTX 230/2021 and that engine has plenty of power. A couple of add-ons that have made a huge difference in the handling and overall performance in rough water were the Riva Racing Sponsons and Top Loader Intake Grate. I also have the IDF and have used it on four occasions, and it worked flawlessly. I tested it out at my takeout when I first got it just to be familiar with it. Very easy to operate. I also have added on the Windshield for those cold New England/Rhode Island mornings early and late in the season. Makes a huge difference. I have taken it off for the summer. 10 minutes off/on. Good luck with your new Explorer, and have a safe, and fun season ahead.
Back in the day I had a Wave Runner that I rigged for fishing. If it would have had that cool reverse to clean the pump impellers I might still have it! Super nice rig, congratulations!
Man, what the hell!I commented on your video when you had the 2019 and recommended the new fish trophy! So you got the bigger windshield, 60 more hp, wider seat, and grips on the front to help with beaching. Ok, I see you making that move. What I love about my 2023 Trophy is that detachable fishing seat in the back and the livewell! Even though you can put your catch on ice, I love having live bait.
@southernsalt when I was shopping, your ski had just come out and they were talking about how it was really meant for long journeys, hince the windshield and seats ect... Congrats on your purchase!
I’m still waiting on the jets skis to come out with a built in I-pilot setting where they will keep u in one spot without having to keep straightening the wheel
Hey brother the explorer pro is amazing huge and great balance, Im in Fort Lauderdale and mine gotta sell it. I go mostly alone and i have to go to the big ocean so its not always too safe for meee. Safety first! If i had fisheries like you guy i would keep it. The bow is perfect for a Trolling Motor which i was gonna install., The storage on these are amazing, you can be out for days with a tank of extra fuel and a small 2 person tent! 600 for the cooler. I have that cooler and the smaller cooler that attaches ontop. I would suggest you get Sponsons gonna miss her.
@@southernsalt ok. Is that only the reason?? I want one so bad. Just having troubles deciding. Mainly gulf fishing. Some bay fishing that I can get Into. But no out of the wild horseplay. Was looking at the fish pro. But gawd. I love the explorer. ALOT.
I was enjoying a stay at the Shang Gra La Hotel ( 5 Star) on Lapu Lapu Island in Philippines. I wanted to go out on the Jet ski and go island hopping. They gave me a bran new Yamaha I think it was. I hit a wave from a small ship that went by. I guarantee I was 12 feet in the air. The landing was a bit painful but I survived. I meant to get some air on that jump, but not that much. They told me I was suppose to stay in the area.... ooops. Its always easier to ask forgiveness than permission.
I just got the 170 explorer pro after watching yours and others vids. Question, mine when totally empty leans/ lists to the left. The left rear hook is about 2 “ closer to the water when on glass when the ski is totally stripped of anything except the rear mounting plate. When I ride I have to lean to the starboard side with my hip off the seat for it to run flat. If I sit in the middle it leans so much the hull shape turns the ski left. I also have a seadoo auto hull bigle, dealer intstalled new also. Does yours dit flat and ride flat or does it lean left(port side down about 2”)
Mine doesn’t lean at all. I would try to get the best photos or video I can of it happening and take it in to your dealer to get checked out. Sounds like something isn’t mounted correctly.
I just recently bought a 2023 explorer 170 with a triton trailer as well. Those bearings in those trailers are absolutely garbage and they are not made in the USA. They are made in China which named a town in China called USA so they can put those stickers on them. My inner bearing seal went after only 150 miles of towing new and leaked grease all over my passenger side inner wheel causing it to fail on the highway. Always carry a set of bearings and a grease gun with you with those garbage China trailers. I'm eventually just going to replace the entire axle assembly on mine with a good reliable Dexter axle.
@@southernsalt Thanks. I'm coming from a freshwater bass boat perspective. So fishing out like you do that pivoting seat isn't that beneficial? I live over near Pensacola and plan on getting one of these to fish similar to how you do. I like the Fishing version for the seat and live well, etc.
The biggest red flag that I see is the seat with the buttcup that prevents the operator from sliding fore and aft. A flat seat would have been a better choice. It was a stupid idea on motorcycles, and it’s still stupid on jet skis.
Hosts of channels like this one need to take a hint from the host of the TH-cam channel, "The Clever Cowgirl" who is a WHOLE LOT, and I mean a GIANT WHOLE LOT EASIER ON THE EYES than the host of this channel, and yet despite her good looks she focuses on her horses, not so much on herself. This is to say that there needs to be less host and more product, and for this particular channel..., a lot less host would be a visual blessing, so to speak.

I have seen people adding a trolling motor with an anchor lock to the front of a jet ski. Is this something feasible on the Explorer Pro?
It is and I may do it soon.
You look so happy and I'm happy for you. Enjoy
