Correction. 14.5 Million Copies as of 2 days back I believe. Some statistic put it at 15.4 Million. I wouldn't be surprise if this hits 20 Million Copies in the next couple of weeks.

I wasn't aware of these controversies, I wasn't going to buy this game anyway, But I truly hate journalists who think they can dictate what others can say or do. A game company that rejects political correctness gets my vote. I'm going to buy this game right now.
I sincerely doubt that you will regret it. It's a truly fantastic experience. Game Science deserves all the praise, and I am glad they could rise over the attempts to make the title fail.
Ever bought a game based on some article in 40 years
Old way was mom and pop game store, and electionics dept of general stores had open systems and open copies of every game they sold
Mom and Pop stores were also doing buy backs and selling used games before what would become Gamestop ever Did and did game rentals before blockbuster, Netflix,and Redbox ever did.
Eventually GameStop, Target,Walmart,etc were told not to display games and systems like that a b roll footage playing of game was broadcasted over TV screens with promo plugs (I just read the box which had good screen shots on box by then)

I agree. Good things can come from bad people, or people you don't agree with . Let's just appreciate what we get, but keep the game out of the conversation about the people involved. You can denounce thier actions, I agree, they should be criticized, but leave the game be.

Black Myth is all the more impressive when you realize that it cost roughly $50 million to make in about five years while Concord cost Sony an estimated $100+ million over eight years. It makes me wonder whether the censorship, red tape and the dangers of moratoriums on publishing games in China are less of a burden on developers than megacorp mandates to pander to activists.
When there's less hangups to developing a game in a country with social credit scores than the good ol US of A you know something is --just a teency bit fishy-- truly effed.
How do we get back to having solid western developed games? Well, I see some changes already being made for the better. By that I mean people are waking up and voting
with their wallets. In the next few years we'll see more of this. Unfortunately, with long development times we'll also be seeing more garbage activist games coming down
the pike too. But, if we hold strong and support devs that actually cater to us then at least by the time the PS6 rolls out we *could* (and should) see a return to normalcy.
I read Chinese and English, I can tell you big YES. The only less free in China is you can't attack, make fun of president, but criticizing his policy while politely avoid mention his name is absolutely free. And you have less freedom to have group sex, other than these, China is a free-er country than US.
It's two poisons fighting each other. Investments in China can all go down the drain on the flip of a switch or the bat of an eye from SARFT (the State Admin for Radio, Film, and Television). Count your lucky stars that despite all this controversy the game survives the release stage...and for surviving breakoff from Tencent, rife with all its government connections.

I don't think that the furries care. If they get a game like this they can't even care that much about the haters. This game is that good.
It's even funnier. Games used to completely go against censorship and angry people on purpose. Games like Doom, GTA, Mortal Kombat and Manhunt were western games completely on the edge of what people deemed acceptable so the creators got sued non-stop. Game creators of the 90s and early 00s couldn't have cared less about any censorship not mandated by the law.

Here is what most people understand, good game = buy it, bad game = not buy it, It really doesn't matter where the games where developed and what are the culture/politics of the country or even fom the company. @@kuoyulu6714 Sure, let's be real, if the game doesn't have anime characters on it, which is a giveaway in most cases where it was developed, will you even notice if the game was produce inside or outside US? To you even be able to have this information, you need to scrow the entire description of the game and maaaaaybe you will see the country of the developers, since this is the very last thing on the entire description. Most people will see a few screenshots, a trailer and that's it, and by the way, trailers are usually localized, so unless the company has a really shitty marketing team, what people will really see is, if the game seems fun or not. That's about it.
I am the native Chinese and read the stories of Wukong in tons of versions since a child. What I can only say is the concept of the Wukong story is the most diverse one among all the Chinese literary masterpieces. You know what, Wukong is born from the stone which is used to fix the broken world.... the last stone which was left alone. It is not even given the decisive gender and supposedly it is the most diverse one, no gender/monkey/minority/excluded by all other supreme beings, fighting its way out until becoming one of the gods... how come there are not enough tags for so-called DEI? I can only say those so-called DEI activitists instead are not inclusive enough to emrace the the true diversity of the real world

It's a chinese game and it's successful. That's why it's controversial. Anything that is successful of chinese origin must be slandered in the USA.
It seems that many people have forgotten why these articles to massacre the Game Science game.
Sweet Baby demanded 8 million dollars from Game Science to get better reviews and a good rating for his future game but Game Science refused to pay.
Hence the attacks in the review articles in order to force Game Science to pay for Sweet Baby's corruption. Many small companies before Game Science have also suffered this practice but they could not resist and disappear into the wild before even finishing their creation.
Consider this game been estimated to cost around 50 to 70 mil usd to made, thats like demanding more then 10% of the game's budget just to make your game worst. its better off of them to literally burn those 8mil with fire then to give those money to SBI.
When you don't pay Sweet Baby, your article will be "mistranslated" and reported everywhere as fact.

love this game, glad to see that even among western gamers the shakedown rackets smear campaign flopped hard. Seriously though if you don't feel like you can handle the rapid reflex requiring gameplay, at least watch an abridged playthrough of it, the music, visuals and story cutscenes are incredible stuff. Wukong is a diety in muliple asian countries, and if you note, a lot of media with him in it is quite respectful, or tells the story as it is with a few changes. If the story takes place in the future, he is rough around the edges, but more respectful and wise, or a supporting character who assists the main character (Like in Lego Monkie Kid. Lego had to take great care in accurately portraying him respectfully. Sure he can be cheeky, but he is not disrespectful, and is quite diciplined. They even brought somone from China to lead the project.)

the funniest part about toms article is that in chapter 3 is where you encounter the first female character in the game wich takes the form of a dragon and a human, aswell as the snake lady in a secret area of the game in chapter 4. in chapter 4 the entire chapter is based around a family of only female spiders that take the form of beautiful women to interract with the player. once again in chapter 5 do we encounter 2 more female characters. so clearly they spent 40 hours in the game and never made it to chapter 3 or chapter 4, i finished my first playthrough in 32 hours. no idea what they were doing for 40 hours in less than half the game.

What I don’t understand is why is all this woke crap being pushed, and on who? Never have I spoken to a single gamer who said they liked the direction the gaming industry is heading. No one likes any of this. "Inclusive" games never include people like me - straight, white, Catholic, and disabled. On the other hand, unlike certain people, I can relate to characters like Mario, Link, Zelda, Kirby, and Pikachu - all characters who have nothing in common with me. Except Mario, who is probably Catholic, being Italian, but could just as easily not be.
This is a huge problem. Remember, this same thing essentially happened with Hogwarts Legacy.
When bigger gaming publications start reporting on aspects other than the gaming part of games and start telling you what to think, you need to push back and show them that that's not acceptable.
