I am a black man and I never watched Star Wars til college in 2006 - solely because my family was not into sci-fi films. My hispanic roommate had all the SW movies released at that point. We watched them all together. Not once did he say "I don't feel represented" and I ended up enjoying the films as well and never felt excluded. I swear you have to look for a problem when you have this mindset.
Star Wars had the most diverse cast in film history. Dozens of alien races were represented.
They also build meanings where none was intended. Do you know why all the bad guys are white guys with English accents? It’s not some great statement about colonialism or racism. It’s because it was mostly filmed at Pinewood Studios in London. And other than the three main cast members who they cast early on, in Hollywood, Luke, Han and Leia, they hired locals. The studio would only pay for a very small number of people to be flown over. And Lucas used what budget he had for needed technical people.
My mom was a black woman, raised in Louisiana. She introduced me to Star Wars, in the 90's. She was a huge fan. My dad, also black, watched it with us. Can't say any of us ever felt left out.

That's what I thought, you have the entirety of SW universe and your suppose to be a smuggler, why wouldn't you give the player the opportunity to live the experience and create the smuggler character of their dreams from a wide range of aliens and people available instead they locked you into a single character / single race / single gender. I remember when American games were great. Then the companies got hijacked by an influx of people that actively resented their ban base and the female figure. Now we consistently get an assembly line of dull bland uninspiring games with homely looking female protagonists with zero personality and the gaming industries unwillingness to listen to their fanbase and shame everyone when their products tank. Pretty sure this is the definition of narcissism.

I was a daily video game news reader until about the same time you said. IGN was my favorite go to back then. That changed drastically around that time. Haven't been back. Been thankful for a lot of channels such as this one. That and I'm mainly a retro gamer now so game news really has a whole different meaning for me now.

Another great video and take on the mess that is Ubisoft. To tell you the truth, they lost me when they started listening to the vocal minority and making changes to the original The Division. This was only made worse when trying to play with my friends in The Division 2. So many issues that made that game a nightmare to play.
I remember when Bayonetta's sex appeal was considered a positive trait of the character. Now it's "problematic".

It brings in the views. Her "Lost unreleased X-men games" video (which is AWESOME!! She released it only one month ago) only brought in 7,000 views. Where else most of the videos about modern AAA gaming have brought in views as as high as an average of 80,000 views (the Dustborn video did about 73,000 views and the Space Marines video did about 88,000). Personally, I enjoyed the retro "Lost unreleased X-men games" video tremendously more, but most people seem to not want to watch videos like that (OR the algorithm is influencing things by not making them more available to most people in the search results). I hope she does more retro videos like the X-men video (that stuff is so much better), but I can fully understand why she's doing the current AAA gaming stuff since it brings in far more views.

Playing real life Farming Simulator with these titles..
Personally I did not find the in game look of Kay Vess a massive problem like others did, however once they altered the graphics and made her look worse than the original images her 'average' look got worse in the sense that the poor anuimation mechanics became more and more obvious, all in all the game itself had it been made to a real world budget would have simply been an average to poor performing Star Wars game, that of itself would have been unusual.
but with all the dramas behind the scenes the bad game construction and the agenda have made a poor game into a horrible game, that takes the same concept of Dark Forces (a non jedi shooter game) and ruin even that. this game should have been a Dark Forces spiritual successor instead it become a massive money pitt and a win for an activist agenda that makes little to no sense even for the open minded observers.

Honestly? I don't think Outlaws was that bad a game at all.
And that's the exact problem- it shouldn't be 'not bad'. This wasn't some project that just randomly burst onto the scene after a quiet development.
This was Ubisoft not only trying to release a "AAA" game, but one set in a licensed property that actually has done well overall in games. It also was their chance to prove that they could do better than EA who squandered their exclusive license. They blew it on both counts.

The scars and broken nose could of worked if those things happened in game at points in the story, probably would of worked well in a narrative sense

Ive always found it puzzling to be obsessed with putting an x/y/z race or a/b/c gender in a space for the sake of representation. Having a bunch of tokens in your IP doesnt actually improve your product if the foundation of your art is not there. Theres a big hole in the floor and to make the room look better you put a multi-skin colored rug over that hole. Its a silly thing to do rather than actually build in that hole so your foundation is complete.
I despise Ubisoft. Outlaws looks cool but having to have a Ubisoft Connect account is a deal breaker. I refuse to have to set up an account for a single player game. Ubisoft can GTH.
The "Bribing" of reviewers is nothing new, they used to do it all the time in the 90s-2010s to get better reviews from journalists. Stuff like swag, and gift boxes, full paid trips to their studios and the surrounding area, etc etc. If those didn't work, they'd put pressure on the review outlets with threats "Yea, if you don't give the game a 7 or higher, we can't let you post the review at release and will have to wait a week.. or we'll pull our funding.
Now that journalists are not only losing their influence but are even becoming toxic for game companies in some cases, they are focusing on the TH-cam, Twitter, and Blog Influencers.

this all started with GG1, they've pushed out all the experienced game devs and replaced them with incompetent DEI hires, these people are not gamers, they don't like video games and do not play them, they hate gamers and have stated this openly many times. their goal is to destroy the gaming industry and so far they are succeeding.

Let's play it out. The foundation of Star Wars was firm. No name actors and actresses dotted the landscape, they picked a lead who had boyish youthful looks and a can-do attitude. A female lead who was very firm and girl-next-door, with intelligence, grace and willing to get her hands dirty. You had the older, handsome rogue with a selfish attitude that has a full character arc in the first movie. Then the next 3 movies built onto the foundation. They weren't loved until people could digest the lore. On top of this awesome foundation were books, extended lore, wondrous possibilities, endless potential for imagination within the universe. Disney bought it, drilled through the foundation, built an outhouse on top and proceeded to shit into the hole they drilled.
The video games are no different in the way they have been released. There are very few gems to find in the outhouse hole that Disney keeps shitting into.

I bought Star Wars Outlaws as a pre order. Big mistake and I regret it. I don’t see how Ubisoft can recover from all of their continuous mistakes. Anyone who has bought this game like myself, was slapped in the face. This game will stay on my “Hidden Games” section on my PS5 permanently. I’m boycotting Ubisoft.
To think all this could've been avoided if they just made another freaking Rayman game.

You don’t have save files on DVD and MP3s. Thats why you can stream them willingly and not care. Games are a fingerprint of one’s self, in the form of the save data. Your game should belong to you, it is a digital “sandbox” that should be in your backyard, not ubisofts.

If they can only see themselves in someone who looks like them, that's racism. That is shallow, skin deep, and pathetic to only be able to recognize yourself in another by how you look than the actions of the character.

First video of yours I've come across, and I just wanted to compliment you on your voice, hearing you speak instantly brought a wash of nostalgia from who knows where, but you totally remind me of an old school late 90s early noughties tv presenter of old. I stopped watching TV around that time and wow it takes me back. Your vocal pitching and emphasis is really good, very melodic and not at all flat or monotone.

Star Wars Outlaws, is a game with an ugly protagonist who doesn't do anything ugly enough to be considered an outlaw. Outlaw PG13, someone needs to be fired. If you could get as evil in outlaws as you could get evil in BG3, a lot of people would have tried this game. Who's favorite flavor is vanilla? I'll tell you, not many people.
I realize that companies like this represent what they want to invest into a agenda than the substance of a product. Imagine if Luke Cage had a game during the series when it aired. No you can't because they wouldn't expanding it. Bet I know why.
Problem is that UBI SOFT is a soup sandwich at the corporate level, remember all those abuse accusations? Skull and Bones was a 11 year long live service turd, these dysfunctions spread to Star Wars Outlaws as well.

I have watch other players play through the game. I would say that i grew up with starwars. Before Disney bought the rights, it went down hill. Just like everything else LucasArts created. With ubisofts behavior recently. I dont have any faith they could make a game to my standerds for Starwars. After i have seen others play the game, i was not surprised. They would have been better off not using Starwars tags. More power to people who wish to own this game.

2024 will go down in history as the year in which all woke titles flopped. Concord, Dustborn, Flintlock, Star Wars Outlaws, Unkown 9, Dragon Age The Veilguard.
And 2024 was also the year in which masculinity and femininity as well as simple games that focus on fun broke sales records. Stellar Blade, Astro Bot, Black Myth Wukong, Space Marine 2.
A good year for gamers.
Alien, starring Sigurney Weaver, is one of my all time favorite movies, ever. I have never once felt that I cannot connect with this movie or that character because of gender differences. Hell, if I remember correctly, the role of Ellen Ripley wasn't even written for a specific gender to begin with.
It was written for a man.
Poor Star Wars Outlaws. For the first time in far too long we get a non-Lego single player Star Wars game that doesn't shove playing as a Force Sensitive down our throat. Naturally the gaming masses try to assure we probably won't get more, and will be stuck playing as Jedi wielding lightsabers and the Force aka the aspects of the setting I have the least interest in, or playing mini-campaigns in multiplayer focused games. While Outlaws is far from the Star Wars scoundrel focused game of my dreams it was a lot of fun and I think they could have made things better in a sequel. Kay doesn't look like a supermodel but she isn't ugly. More nicest looking girl in the neighborhood then cheerleader captain. I'm glad they didn't delay the game. I would rather have a game with some bugs now that the developers can fix as I play then a technically perfect game six months or a year later. People are absurdly oversensitive to bugs these days.
That dustborn episode was a great one finally an episode all about welfare.. but it got me to thinking. Jim Henson corporation started because a bunch of welfare admistrators were able to buy destroyed real estate in England and eventually collected infinite rent. But I wonder what makes the difference they gave us Muppet sesame street fraggles. More importantly they put out new stuff for 3-5 year olds that is market independent like neogeo

I don’t know what it is but these bombings in the big budget industry left and right has me laughing. I mean bombing as in huge fail, not bomb attacks! I can imagine those double A and indie devs eating chicken wings and drinking beer laughing at the dumpster fire state AAAs are in with the successes they have. I’m also sick of these game being the center of attention and being shoved in our faces. Suck it AAA industry. All hail AAs and indie games!
It's always funny to me how they make female characters in every game ugly now and say "realistic beauty standards".... But the actress the character is based on is hot. I can walk down the street and half the women I see are hot, so what are you saying that they're not realistic? Have your ugly characters be side characters, but no one fantasies about being ugly, so if you make your main character ugly, it ain't going to sell..... Unless it's purposeful to a story. People may argue like "Legacy of Kain, he's ugly"..... No he's cool looking as fook.
It's not just the ugly female characters, how about the fact that you can't be male or female anymore in character creation you have to choose Type A or Type B.

I'm not bummed Outlaws underperformed because Ubisoft deserves it, but I am bummed its a mediocre game because I might have still played it, and this has been a weak year for good games (Or at least the types I like).

I never played this game so I don’t know if it’s good or not but I don’t subscribe to the complaints about the character design.
In my opinion, it’s equally dumb to complain about the character being absurdly hot like in Stellar Blade than to complain for a main character being « ugly with a broken nose » like in Star Wars Outlaws. We are in a Star Wars game, she could have a fish head, look like a fly with an elephant nose or whatever. It’s a choice of character design. You learn to appreciate it through gameplay, character animations, cinematics or backstory reveal.
Personally, I don’t think she’s ugly and I don’t care about her nose. And I surely won’t judge a game on its main character design.
The sales are the most pathetic, or is it Ubisofts stock price, or is the disgusting face alteration on the female mc…or…..

When I play a role playing game, I want either a handsome guy or a cute girl. The girl in Outlaws is just outright ugly. I'll pass, thank you very much.
In all fairness, if there's something good that came out of this is its that its more fun to watch her trilogy chronicalling the fall of UberSofties empire. Something the Star Wars sequel trilogy is devoid of.
I somehow doubt they created Outlaws so that gamers can laugh at reviews and ignore it. Or Assassin's Creed and other games that also offer a lot of fun to critic viewers and buyers remorse to buyers.
I would not accuse them of ignoring what their market requests from them but rather listen with great attention and doing the opposite in the hopes that controversy and social engineering can somehow mask their almost religious devotion to incopetence.
That said, nobody wins from the destruction of Ubisoft. If only the overpaid grifters could be kicked out, the great minds still manacled to the company could potentially offer more bottles lightning. But Im sure such levels of competency will be stamped out by all means of false virtue and fake authority.
In the end, the indie space is alive and well and must be nurtured. Let us not forget at some point all of these behemoths were startung up. And new, and better alternatives are bound to rise as the bug players dontheir best to self sabotage to oblivion.
