  • Links are below ⬇ In this video, I'll show you what I did to power through the middle stages of the painting quickly. Also, in the beginning I was trying out something a little different, but then switched it up.
    My work is inspired by my love for fields of flowers. You'll see me create it from start to finish. There's no music, however, you'll hear me talk through a lot of my process and discuss products/tools that I'm using.

    Hello and welcome! I'm Betty Franks and I create my vision of abstract fields of flowers using acrylic paints and pencils (and other mark-making tools). I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and travel a couple of times a year to Preko, Croatia (where my parents live). I started painting in 2012 and focused on abstract art in the summer of 2015. I have never seen art like your's at all. We all have our own art style,it doesn't bother me that some people don't like my art,it doesn't hurt me in any way! • @artistcarolyngrace1711

      It’s a matter of contour, style , composition and balance - also values and colors that balance out and keep the eye moving about the canvas in a satisfying manner it takes practice to put darker or lighter values here and there and
      putting markings in places that need balancing out to make everything feel in place-it’s a learned thing
      .. .. and takes time I’ve been doing this for over 65 years and know it’s an instinct after a while -you just know when it’s complete 😀another way to check if it’s working midway through or when you feel it is missing something or something doesn’t feel right is to turn the painting upside down- it’s amazing how the problem stands out like a sore thumb! Another way to tell is to walk into another room for awhile and then re-enter again spotting the problem area immediately - sometimes we work on it too much up close too long and need some perspective !
      Happy painting 😀

      @@artistcarolyngrace1711 Oh, wow! 65 years! You've been practicing a lot. 🙌 I totally agree with you about leaving the room and then coming back in and looking at the artwork. It's then pretty easy to spot (with practice) what needs to be fixed. Thank you so much for sharing!

    Betty, I always feel that layers are what really give depth to and create something that a single layer cannot give. I have painted over many a painting and find that the contours and even showing through some of the underlying painting really do something indescribable to my work. Thank you for consistently pointing that out.

    I agree. This painting is different but amazingly beautiful. You are developing, I think. That's why you say you don't know where you're going. You're growing as an artist.

    • @BettyFranksArt
      @BettyFranksArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha...I have said I don't know where I'm going for many years and with just about every painting. But, it's really just part of my intuitive painting process. I'm moving forward with blinders on sometimes. When I don't know where I'm headed, it can be a little uneasy at times. But, super pleased with the way it ended!

    As soon as you applied that yellow, I too loved it right away.
    While I create (anything really) listening to someone else talk (audio books!) distracts me from my thoughts, putting too much effort, to something that should just flow, be enjoyable, really helps me.

    First time I've seen you working. Love how you put shades / tones of the one colour on top of each other - gives a pleasing richness - to my eye. I'd love to work and get the canvas you have - I'd go further if I was lucky / talented enough to get to this stage - by taking various thicknesses and colours of sharpies and outline some bits, and / or put further marks on it with those sharpies Just love your work - you are an inspiration.

    They’re called wedges! (: The most common brand is the Catalyst wedge, so some people refer to them as catalysts as well. I loooove them. So many different edges for different textures! And you can also get baking/cake decorators wedges that have even more odd shapes.

    Haven't finished watching this yet. I really liked this painting at the 16min. through about 20min. So interesting the creator's point of view vs. the viewers. I’m older and late into the game of trying to become an artist in realism. Such a struggle and frustration to not to be able to create what your mind sees as the finished work because of your lack of enough experience with the style and medium. Started watching your channel and feel in love with your work and your talking us through your process and your problem solving! I think I would like to try a few abstract to shake up my creativity! What an inspiration you are. Just a question: how do you clean up your plastic film palette?

    • @BettyFranksArt
      @BettyFranksArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sherrie! I don't think we're ever too late to do what we love! I'm glad you're enjoying my videos. If you would like some step-by-step instruction, I have this recorded workshop from a live session I did a few years ago: www.bettyfranksart.com/online-workshops The way I clean my plastic palette is by letting the paint pile up (a few layers) and peeling it off when it dries. Thanks so much for watching!
