The lip is one of the most important pieces... we lost half a litter because the mom kept jumping out with the babies attached last winter! We promptly rebuilt all our nest boxes to have the lips and haven't lost any kits since then.
2min into the video and already learning. This TH-cam channel is extremely helpful. I'm thinking about getting rabbits once my family relocates (have the space). Lots to learn and this channel never fails to help me understand more about what these animals need
Fabulous !! Thank you for sharing. Just got meat rabbits couple months back. Was hoping to learn how to make a nest box before I start breeding. Have to wait for the severe cold (Ontario, Canada) of winter to near the end before breeding. I think the coldest month January will be even too cold for new babies to survive....Love you podcasts
Great nesting box, I prefer wood boxes too only bc of our very cold winters here in MICHIGAN. My step dad made me 5 new boxes I have 5 already but I wanted five more. Thank you for sharing, till next time God Bless.
My husband has used your videos to make all seven of our nest boxes! These are wonderful! They are so much better of an option than the ones from tractor supply!
Thank you so much for posting this video!! I really love your channel. I can see how much you love God's creatures and how well you take care of them ❤. I am getting 2 Flemish giant meat rabbits on the 2nd of January to process. Still trying to talk my mom into letting me get some silver fox breeders 😊. Your videos have inspired me a lot. I decided to make my own channel about my little micro farm, and I will be making videos about my rabbits if/when I get them. You are doing a great job, keep following the path that God put you in ❤. God bless!!
@@ThomasStewart-k9w I'm not going to argue. She loves her animals so much and it shows. You wouldn't understand unless you take your time and energy and put it into those animals. It specifically says in the Bible that God created us to be over his creation. Which means to take care of them but also he created them for our use...to be eaten you don't have to agree but I know the truth.
I was looking to buy boxes for mines, but then I came across your channel and you inspired me to make my own; watching your video step by step. I’m glad I did, I enjoyed every minute of it, thank you for sharing your videos and keep it up 🤙🏾.
DON'T forget the cardboard! As our last video we shared pointed out we lost two full litters because we forgot the cardboard. As these animals providers this will make you feel absolutely horrible trust me!! Great video as usual lady!
I just built it. I bought a hand saw .. a jig saw ...and a circular saw! ONly the circular is required :o) It is super big and heavy. It will last a long time. Unless you have huge rabbits, the dimensions could definitely be 3/4 size for medium rabbits.
Tiffany does a lot of videos. Don’t just watch. Like and subscribe too … that’s it . 80% of some people’s fans don’t even subscribe. Help out the gal who’s helping you.
Really great job on the nesting box.... next time easier and faster cut you template on the first box then using the pieces to mark out the other wood to avoid all the measuring all over just saying.. Love your channel i do have the giant flemish rabbits my cages has a box built in already the sleep in it in the winter and when i breed them they make their babies there... all my cages has a box the likes to sleep in lol
another thing 1/4 inch hardware cloth is teh recommended cloth that snake wranglers recoment to keep snakes out of yards , coups etc. i beleive it works on all species of snake... but this lesson came from those snake proofing against baby ratlers in az. so it should work ... if you have snake pressure it will help on the outside ofteh gage and if you got chickens.. go at least 3 ft up. just some info , if u feel its useful
Hey, I’ve just bred pet rabbits for the first time, and I’ve found your videos really informative. My doe Mabel has only had one kit and I do have another doe that is pregnant and due in the next day or so. I am just worried that the single kit will get cold. Mabel was laying with him last night and he seems warm and protective of him but just concerned as read that single kit survival is low, wondered if you had ever experienced this and if you might have any advice? Thank you!
@@Kyshrizla hey! Yes velveteen survived 🥰 I put him with my other doe who’s litter came along a couple of days after and she took him in no problem a happy and healthy little bun
Does it matter where you place the nest box in the cage? In my case I built the grow out hutches from tealstones plans and wanted to put the box in the end thats partially enclosed. So I only need to add baby saver wire to one portion esentially. My silvefox doe is due in a week 😄
After you separate the young bucks and does I heard you said on another video the bucks have to be separated but can the does stay together in a larger cage as adults ?
I can’t find any bunnies/rabbits in my area at all and the ones they have are all fixed and in shelters I have a lot of land and get can’t find anything it’s really frustrating
I have 10 California/New Zealand rabbits anyone else have that type here // im not sure if they are meat rabbits // i got a male and female for my grandchildren

#1 rule in making DIY nestbox is measure door the box needs to fit through lol.
yup, yup, I found out hard way....

Have you ever had anything happen to ones made from thinner wood? what size screws do you prefer?

She hardly loves God's creatures when they are going to be killed to be eaten.

Lip is the most important part, one bunny spilled out of box n died last night , i watched your video n reconstructed it today early in the morning.

Nice job
how thick is the wood you're using? and what type of nesting material do you put in for the babies to come? straw?
Thank you
Great tutorial, thank you!
Sanding the edges would help.

Great video. I’m just starting my rabbity and I’m having a hard time finding the cage wire. Can you help me with this problem?
Can you paint them at all? Or stain?
Can you buy something like this already made?
I can’t find any bunnies/rabbits in my area at all and the ones they have are all fixed and in shelters I have a lot of land and get can’t find anything it’s really frustrating
This might be a dumb question. But do you use treated plywood ?
Never use treated wood in construction that may be chewed by the animal.
A bunch of people I know call that lip a " kit scraper"
What is draft?
I have 10 California/New Zealand rabbits anyone else have that type here // im not sure if they are meat rabbits // i got a male and female for my grandchildren
They are indeed meat rabbits and will make 8 to 12 kits I believe and about 8 to 10 weeks for full maturity! Cheers Mate
