Wednesday also cried when Thing almost died. She truly cares for her family, in fact everyone in the Addams Family love and care for one another.

Even in the original Addams Family movies, it's shown how much Wednesday likes her uncle. In the series he's the person she seems to trust the most even out of all her family members.
And the only time she cried after her scorpion died was in front of him
Fester is the only family member who doesn't judge her at all. Her parents and brother do, obviously. But Fester is the funny uncle who always accepts her behavior no matter.

I turned this show on for background noise while I was cleaning my apartment, and I literally stopped cleaning because I became entirely invested in it and finished it all in one day!
Didn’t think I was going to like this show at all, turns out I’m officially obsessed. Jenna Ortega as Wednesday is just *muah* chefs kiss! The whole cast and ensemble is terrific. Catherine zeta Jones as Morticia is spectacular, and my favorite character out of the whole show is Thing!! Never in my life did I think I would fall in love with a freakin hand as a character (lmao) but I’m entirely here for it!
This show has my heart, and I’m crossing my fingers for season 2!!

Jenna Ortega shines as Wednesday Addams in this new streaming Netflix series. Ortega is the best Wednesday yet, and that's something considering the amazing performance of Christina Ricci in the movie incarnation of the character. The series is a bit darker than one might expect for an odd comedy like the Addams Family, but the humor remains. Wednesday is a smart series with numerous plot twists and turns throughout Season One's eight episodes. The series is well written, expertly delivered and well acted. But without a doubt, Jenna Ortega steals the show. She has delivered a complex, highly nuanced and layered character that will go down as the standard for any future iteration of Wednesday Addams. If one has not recognized star talent in Jenna Ortega before, it is hard to doubt it now! Highly Recommend.

@Tensei the character of Wednesday is portrayed the best in this series than any other version imo. aside from a couple of cringy dialogues from her (which the blame falls on the writers) she does an excellent job playing wednesday. in fact, Jenna Ortega is one of the only reasons why the series is doing well. you are correct that the writing for some of the dialogue is pretty bad, and the plot for the series is even worse. it's a terrible who-done-it where the villain literally gives themself away when on the brink of freedom. Tyler didn't have to say a thing when he was proven innocent by the police and had someone else in custody. Even Wednesday wasn't fully sure. and then there was Christina's character. i knew she was a villain almost immediately because it's always that trope of "the one that's too nice/too close to the main protagonist". and she could have just ran away when the old town pilgrim threatened her. but she stayed for what?
the last time i saw a film get solo carried by an actor was Alita Battle Angle. Wednesday does this as well but without the pre-hate by others. the series will likely continue on the usual 3 season contract due to how wildly successful the show is , but i really hope the writing steps up. this whole "teen drama" genre they are trying to force down will lead to the show's downfall if they continue with what they did in the first season, imo

Wednesdays whole character is her being different then others and not caring what they think about her, she literally goes to a school for outcasts. Her whole thing is just her expressing herself. By "cringe" you probably mainly mean the dance scene. She made the dance based off goth dances from the 80s, because she's goth and that's how goths dance. She also has a lot of neurodivergent traits which are probably the other parts you view as cringe. There's nothing wrong with her character, you just don't like the parts of her that are different
Jenna huging Emma in last scene was soo emotional for me. They are emotion, empathy and friend love but she was still Wednesday after all. It was almost intimate to show she care and love her best friend.

I actually really enjoyed this. For a series set in a "high school" I was worried that it would make me roll my eyes a bit. But it didn't, it kept me guessing, in suspense the whole time. It made me laugh in equal measure, her cutting comebacks and reluctance to change, was strangely charming and hilarious all at once. I got the "who dun it" wrong several times and loved the ending. Brilliant portrayal of all the characters, but Wednesday stood out (as she should). Just an amazing protrayal and I really hope they do more seasons with the same suspension as this one.

I lowkey am in love with Jenna Ortega's character Wednesday, not only because of her snarky comebacks, or the constant dark humor, but also because I love her choice in style, (High-tops, big hoodies, darker colors) {sorry darker colors was kind of a "no dur" moment lol) But they chose great people to play the characters. (SPOILER-ISH) I literally cried when I though Eugene died. "I was like: "NO, NOT MY BEE BABY!!"
I also have a love-hate relationship with Tyler. (ANOTHER SPOILER) Kind of a bummer when Plant teacher (sorry I never remember their names) was the master of the Hyde, but it suits her VERY, VERY, well.

It's Supernatural Goth Enola Holmes and I actually enjoyed watching it. Though I didn't expect Wednesday would be a full on detective in this series, it's actually quite enjoyable.
Thing is a superhero, Fester is still one of the greatest. Morticia, you can't possibly hate her. Gomez is very comic accurate. One of the coolest new character I could mention would be Enid, she's so cute and Bianca, she's a queen siren. I love her.
I suggest to enjoy it as it is and without the continuous comparison to the old films so there could be a room for appreciation.

normally i don’t do reviews but i’m just so blown away. from the casting to the acting to the set design to the plot and storyline, wednesday has completely left me speechless in the best way! i grew up watching the addams family movies and loving them for how weird and odd and endearing they were, this fits right in.
spoilers from here on just in case anyone hasn’t seen it! please please PLEASE go watch it, i promise you won’t be disappointed :)
first off, the actors that were casted were so spot on. i wouldn’t have imagine jenna ortega as wednesday but she honestly blew it out of the park, i found myself chuckling every other scene as well as tearing up at all the right times. luis guzmán as gomez is a PERFECT choice! oh my god what an amazing look alike to the original comics! i also really loved gwendoline christie as principal weens, i loved her as breinne of tarth in GOT so having her as well as christina ricci was just the icing on the cake. beautiful casting choices!
even though i kinda guessed that tyler was the hyde from the beginning and i had my suspicions about mrs thornhill as i watched the episodes, i was still on the edge of my seat the whole way through. i truly don’t know how i was shocked at every twist and turn. the scene with tyler and wednesday in the police station during ep8 had me with my hand over my mouth the whole time, i couldn’t even take my eyes off my tv AND I KNEW IT WAS COMING!!! everything was so well done i can’t praise this enough!
i also like how the colors in the show seemed to get brighter and darker along with wednesday’s ups and downs with her friends/family.

Addams family is probably the most genuine functional and stable family I have since where the mother actually puts out an affort to bond with her daughter and where the father is verbal about his love ..... for me it's something I ....tbh never encountered

Uncle Fester was always the fun loving uncle since the first movie. Especially when he taught both wednsday and pugsley how to use explosives. A goth version of Grunkle Stan.
And despite her emotional detatchment towards everyone. Deep down she not only cares for her family, but for her friends especially Enid. Who she herself hugged and thanked her for saving her life from the Hyde when Enid beat the crap out of it in her Lycan form.
Basically Wednsday is like Raven. Keep her emotions in control, and focused. And not get too attached to never feel pain like she felt when those stupid humans murdered her pet scorpion Nero. Before that tragic incident you saw she was happy and innocent and another reason why she has emotional Detachment is also because she was trying to be a Warrior by her father after all since their bloodline are a family of Warriors to protect outcasts from Evil humans so of course being the most devoted one in the family she's also the most devoted Warrior

Absolutely loved it! Kept me guessing the whole way through and Jenna Ortega portrayed Wednesday perfectly. The premise was great and imaginative.
As a massive Tim Burton, and someone with a love for all things dark and gothic this went beyond all my expectations. It isn't a remake of The Addams Family - it is a modern spin off based on Wednesday and her individual character development which should be taken into account when watching.
I couldn't wait for this to come out to watch and now I can't wait for another season!

Tim (Burton) has finally restored my faith in binge watching after so long. I couldn't put down the remote and was glued to the tv for 6 whole hours... What a magnificant transfirmation of our beloved charecters, as the lept off the screen and straight into our hearts...

This is a must-see series. Predictable, yes, but the producers kept the nostalgia from the original Addams Family TV show -- a very nice touch. The snaps to gain entrance to the secret room are from the snaps used in the original TV series title sequence song -- I hope others caught that.
The clever stuff was a good enough nod to the original, but they kept the character in check and expanded on the whole family also, which was fine, and not over the top. I hope they keep their focus on future seasons and do not let their accomplishment go to their heads.
Tim Burton's touches were actually nice but kept in check by the creators.
And I am so glad that they did not go "Harry Potter" with the school even though the Romanian castle backdrop is pretty cool looking.
Some diehard fans might get angry over the homages paid to some past actors and strong deviance with current actor portrayals, but the creators did a wonderful job not to mess with it too much, after all, it is about our protagonist and not about the whole Addams Family ensemble.
I am pleasantly surprised by the way the series turned out.

Wednesday Addams has always been one of my favorite characters and Jenna Ortega did an incredible job! Amazing show, the dark humor made me chuckle quite a bit and that dance scene is iconic. Can't wait for season 2.
I think it very significant that she smiles at fester the same way fester smiles at his family. Also, she seems to be acknowledging & approving of fester's reason to smile. They even seem to be sharing a private joke.

Where to begin!!! This TV show was everything I had imagined and more. As a fan of Wednesday Addams herself you can't imagine how excited I was to see this TV show. It had so many plot twists and characters to die for. I also have always loved Tim Burton and Wednesday just put a whole new meaning to his already famous name. This was a jaw dropping thrilling TV show that i would recommend for anyone from the age of around 13 depending on how well you take gore. Will most definitely fined myself watching it again and given the ending I will have my fingers and toes crossed for a second season.
If you didn’t notice, she smiled in the first episode as well after she put piranhas (not sure which type of fish they where) in the pool where the people who bullied pugsley

Okay but in all honesty, I wished they had Fester look shocked at Wednesday's smile, especially since it wasn't just a soft smile, it was a full-on "I'm so happy to see you" eye-twinkling heartfelt smile. I expected him to even saying something like "yeesh. What did they do to you back there?"
I still love/prefer Ricci's Wednesday but Ortega is quite phenomenal and just how good this show maintains and respects the lore of the world is quite awesome. Loved when she smiles at uncle Fester and how she cried at Thing's demise. The films portray her love for uncle Fester as well, so far a great show.

Been a fan of Adams family since the old black and white TV series when I was young. Loved every film that came out. But this is by far the best version yet.
Thing is my favourite by far alway has. But the girl who played Wednesday absolutely perfect stop on. Great series kept u guessing till the end. Full of fun laughs tears and horror. Loved seeing all the nods to the original Adams family in it aswell. The finger clicking totally got me. And putting the original Wednesday " Christina ricci " in it was class.
I so hope they bring out season 2 as I am hooked. Netflix has surpast themselves with this one and the fact it from the mind of Tim Burton is just the icing on the cake.
Mind u I would love to see Johnny depp in this as he would be amazing in this gothic adventure. Bravo Netflix

Wednesday is secretly a caring girl. Why is it so hard to see?
1. She punished someone who bullied her little brother,
2. She immediately fixed her words when talking to her mother when noticing how hurt her mother was with her insults & wore the necklace her mother had given her,
3. She stepped up a lot to defend someone who got bullied,
4. She tried to help Rowan,
5. She defended Eugene,
6. She shared a sentimental moment to try cheer up Enid and hugged her at the end,
7. She didn't hold grudge to Bianca (she literally talk to her casually at the dance)
8. She cried when Thing was attacked,
9. She received an arrow for Xavier,
10. She literally tried to defend and protect everyone in her school.
Yes, Wednesday is often didn't feel strong emotion, but she isn't heartless. But, she's often too careless with others' fate too. Something she now knew had affected her and her friends so much.
Funnily enough, I had gotten so used to her muted emotional responses that her genuine smile creeped me out a bit hahah

The trick to wednesday is to make her cold an uncaring, but also have a softer side that we only get to see or envision very rarely. Sort of like Batman in a way, where over time we know that he's cold to some extent, but that he has softer spots for certain people, and over time that conditions us to know that he cares about person x very very much. Same deal goes for Wednesday, it shows us that not only does she actually have a much more normal person underneath the coldness, but that she genuinely cares about certain people (and thing). Very well written and perfectly acted to get that across without actually breaking the cold character so that we don't get the impression its all a front. Wednesday very much is cold as ice, she just has a very few select soft spots.
This is by far my favorite incarnation of the Addams family
Ok, I sat through this entire thing and there was absolutely NOTHING shocking about that explanation. “She has a connection with a family member who can bring out the positive side of her.” We ALL have someone in our lives who taps into sides of ourselves that we don’t feel comfortable showing the rest of the world.
Theory: In the show its stated in the show I think by Fester that he knew someone who was a Hyde that was in electroshock therapy maybe there is a change that when Fester shocked Tyler he because a second master to him and this could occur in the next season.
Wednesday obviously cares a lot for her family and friends. But Fester and perhaps also Thing have just the right distance for her to be comfortable with showing that affection. I think she is closer to her parents and brother than her uncle Fester. But that is too close for comfort for her to show it. While friends like Enid are too far and new for her to be comfortable with. Untill that hug moment.
To me it actually sounds familiar. Showing affection to my parents was always very uncomfortable for me. While I had no problems showing it to some other family members or close friends. Just too close for opening up.
I love how they drip feed the fact that she does have a heart. It's a small black one but it's there.

Wednesday has a very unique way of how she acts with her family, both in the show and the movie’s I grew up watching. I feel that she and Fester both have a close relationship, and she isn’t afraid of showing emotion around him. With Pugsley, she’s more reserved and protective, but in her own way as the Addam’s family is known for. You see this protective side of her twice in season one. In the first episode, she releases piranhas in a pool because she’s the only one that can torture her brother. Bit of a spoiler, but you’ll see it immediately so it’s not that bad. I didn’t reveal a name or anything serious. The second time is ‘parent’s weekend’ if I remember correctly and she comforts him by taking him fishing with his favorite bait while telling him he has to be strong for their mother. Speaking of which, you can’t really tell if she’s trying to be nice to her mother or not because anyway she says something nice, it sounds like an insult, which really confuses me. Sorry, had to get that off my mind. I really don’t have much of an opinion about her relationship with Gomez, except that he’s ‘an exceptional father’ to Wednesday and Pugsley. Besides Wednesday thinking her parents are plotting to turn her into them, I think if you look closely in the perspective of an Addams, you can see that each person has their own way of showing emotions, and in Wednesday’s case, sicking piranhas on her brother’s bully and taking him fishing with grenades, and telling him that he’s weak and won’t last without her, those are signs of emotions and that she cares. Again, Morticia and Gomez are still mysteries to me because Wednesday says hurtful things and they take it as a positive, but maybe I’ll find out in season two.
This is Tim Burton's best creation yet - these actors are all well chosen as well . I just love them all !!!
In the episodes "Morticia's Romance, Parts 1 and 2," it clearly establish Fester Frump as Morticia's uncle, brother of her mother, Hester Frump, a.k.a. Granny Frump.

(spoiler) I'm assuming most of us have seen the films and the show, in the films Uncle Fester developed a deep bond with her, Wednesday allowed him to tuck her in bed and even allowed him to kiss her beheaded dolls before going to sleep. In the second film, Wednesday did everything in her power to "escape" in order to save her uncle from misery. The Netflix show also hints that Uncle Fester has been away from home from quite some time. So, it's only natural that Wednesday would smile wholeheartedly when she reunited with her uncle

The first season's paycheck isn't so big the 2nd season now that is based a lot on how the first season did and that should be huge. Millie Bobby Brown season 1 got $20k per episode of Stranger Things. Season 3 Millie got $300k per episode. Of course Millie was an unknown before season one where as Jenna Ortega was very well known so I imagine she was paid very well, But probably not even half as much if there is a season 2.

All of the critics complaints about this new Wednesday is nothing like the previous versions seem to forget that she is now a teenager. All of the previous movies and shows portray her as no more than 10 years old. She's just growing up.
i love that moment,its kind of like the only people that make her smile and feel warm is her family and it kind of should be that way because of who they are.
its the same with thing the only people that can make her shed a tear is when something happens to her family it realy fits them,for them showing emotion over you you realy have to have won there hearts and thats not easy.

My only complain is the plot was actually rather generic easy to guess especially I've seen so many similar patterns - those kind of Hollywood's generic highschool movie plot with "hero vs villains" thing, with misunderstanding, mistake then trust, friendship development at the end (maybe more like a Disney movie?), it's a little waste since it has some serious mystery aspect and a lot of gore, Wednesday deverse something more crazy, extraordinary I think

I immediately realized that since when she's suspecting the therapist and believes her friend is the hyde, because I noticed many hints through out, for example, remember the expression the teacher made when Wednessday was playing music scene, remember Tyler scream underwater scene at the end of another episode too.
