We're finally back for Slifer Slackers. This time, Paul and Alec are opening Elemental Energy to pull some rare cards, plus some Duelist Packs from Jaden and Zane! Elemental Energy includes several new "Elemental HERO" monsters, used by Jaden Yuki in the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX anime, along with many cards used by his rival, Chazz Princeton, including the expansion of the "XYZ" monsters into "VWXYZ". It also features "Queen's Knight", "King's Knight" and "Jack's Knight"; long awaited cards from the original Yu-Gi-Oh! anime. Alexis Rhodes cards are also contained such as Cyber Blader.
A new set of cards introduced in this set are the "Dark World" monsters, which have powerful effects that activate when they are discarded from the hand, and they are the most anticipated from this set. In the OCG the card "Pot of Avarice" was also highly anticipated due to its use in "Gadget" Decks.

So in case anyone else is wondering what they were thinking with Burst Return, in the anime it was used along side a card called Burst Impact that was basically Dark Hole if you controlled Burstinatrix, and wouldnt destroy her. Too bad they never made burst impact a real card.
its only use now is in a mirror match which to be fair bouncing all your opponents monsters is not a bad effect but unless you know there a high chance of a hero mirror match it not worth putting in your deck

Burst Return is also used for its return effect in one duel. You know, that one convinient effect when your Avian and Sparkman are taken with the effect of Maiden in Love and you just have this random card that can return them to your hand

I feel like using cards pulled from Rare Hunters could be allowed if it directly supports cards you pull in Slifer Slackers. No mirror force or delinquent duo of course, but stuff like poly or xyz dragon cannon and its materials would work.
I was thinking what would be a fair trade for the older cards. Maybe they can trade 5 cards they actually played last game for 1 card from their previous run? I am not sure how many dupes they've pulled, so it can either be a too harsh of a payment or a nothing at all.
Banned/limited cards should obviously be excluded from that trade.

Elemental HERO Thunder Giant is so cool and has a nice effect. The HERO archetype always has a place in my heart through memory lane after the past years since the GX Era.
When you summon Tempest by fusing those three monsters you get… RAID SHADOW LEGENDS!!!
At end of a season of these it be cool to combine all the cards yall got and build a deck out of everything for the final battle
I love this set back then and it's still one of my favorite Yu-Gi-Oh sets of all time

for context, burst return is a anime card based off a episode where jaden dueled a girl with a monster that had the ability to take jaden's monsters. but only male monsters. leaidng to jaden using burst return to bounce avian and sparkman (and a hilarious exchange between the two duel monsters agreeing to never mention this to the other elemental heroes) so he jaden could win with burstinatrix
The look on Alec's face when he stares into the camera after attacking a second Cyber Phoenix is incredibly hilarious to me.

You may be right, but have you seen the yugioh structure deck tier list at voice with yugi, kaiba, and Joey? It has its own plot and has good reasoning to the placement of the decks. You should shock it out.

See, the purpose behind Burst Return is for when your opponent has taken control of your monsters via the effect of something like Maiden in Love and you want them not to have them, and specifically for that purpose.
In other words, it's a card that simply exists for the plot of a show, and doesn't actually work in real life.

I think for more variety, you should be allowed to throw in a couple important cards like polymerisation or if you've it in the previous series, the materials to make dope fusion monsters.

Paul mentioned using cards from the rare hunters series and now I have a headcanon that they're rare hunters on campus dueling students for their priceless rare cards all over again. Jaden better be careful or else his winged kuriboh might get nabbed
What a match! So much back and forth, after Cyber Phoenix got removed anyway, and quite a few awesome GX era cards with fun effects but also some classic moves like using Lei Lei's lack of brains and all in brawn against himself. XD
I love that Alec summoned Spark Man so much this duel He's honestly still my favorite even with so many other 'updated' ones to choose from. Just always loved the look and feel of him.
Also really loving the Slifer Red uniforms guys! Very drippy.
Burst Return exists because Judai used it in exactly one filler episode to get back the E-Heroes the no-name antagonist of the week stole from him. The fact that it got printed over actual useful stuff is still baffling to me.

If you pick up the cazz pack it has direct support for the Vwxyz cannon.

If Paul Had Attacked Directly With His 2300 ATK Monster In The First Duel, Alex Couldn't Use Brain Control At The End
he makes the same mistake in the duel he wins and even loses the last duel for not direct attacking with lei lei allowing Alec to brain control and finish him off

I had a lot of fond memories with Elemental Energy, mainly the Special Edition one I was given... but I had to share the packs with my brother.
I feel Paul is onto something. Like let's say if there were certain monsters that appeared in GX like the X-Y-Z monsters that Kaiba used that Chazz also used; you guys can pull cards from the Rare Hunters and transfer them to your collection. It's only fair!

I get why people wanted the decks to be more differentiated but NGL, I kinda wish it didn't happen by opening different packs.
One thing I really liked with the rare hunter series was seeing the decks wildly split off despite opening the same packs and often getting the same cards. It was neat seeing the deck building evolve and diverge from the same starting place.

Man, it is a crime that Cyber Dragon was so short-printed in Zane's duellist pack. It was like one per box, so I'm happy Paul actually got one!
You can probably get all of the XYZ pieces by using Chazz's duellist pack. Maybe give Alec some of Jaden's second duellist pack in exchange?
Glad to see some Fusion monsters for once, and I didn't think anyone would summon Cyber Barrier Dragon in this series! Barrier and Laser are such bad cards, but I loved trying to make them work.

I think keeping it like the rare hunter series is good. The deck will naturally diversify as the episodes continue. As long as you guys are creative with adding different cards that you guys pull from each set.
I think adding the duelist pack, now becomes a character duel.
Naturally, the two deck will be similar because the series just started. That’s okay, give it time, it’s fun.

Purpose of BURST RETURN: recover your Heroes from these situations.
- When your opponent gets control of one of your monster with Snatch Steal or Creature Swap
- When your opponent has one of your monsters under the effect of an equip spell card or continuos trap card.
Slifer Slackers and Rare Hunters are definitely the best yugioh series here on youtube! I'm having a blast watching you guys play the game with the same cards I've grown with, the very cards I know and like the most and I am very attached to... It's just so good! Btw synchro era yugioh was my last playing the game so I'm looking up to that series with a lot of interest but also with a little bit of sadness... after that I'll be completely unable to understand the game ahaha
you have to give yourself the xyz from rare hunters, this is one of the only game states where wvxyz can be playable.
I like how in game 1 alec found the only possible way to lose by making thunder giant and swinging with it first, which makes him lose to magic cylinder when no other attacks would be able to lose from that position.
Now they're opening more packs to really going in on a set theme I'm looking forward to seeing how they're decks end up I'm predicting by the end itll be full on jaden vs Zane at the graduation duel 😂

Maybe when the set comes out with dark guardian and the new yubel support while slifer slackers isn't over yet. you guys could implement an exam thing where you have to duel against one of the other team APS members who uses a gate guardian deck or other decks like the sacred beasts or yubel with the new support to win 3 copies of a card you didn't pull that you wanted for your deck and if you lose the opponent picks 3 cards from your deck and you lose those cards permanently as punisment for failing the exam

Burst return is good against things that wipe the field. You can activate that spell card and save your cards from mirror force or other destruction cards

Honestly, Burst Return do be kinda crazzy in a mirror match. Me and a friend drafted (online of course) some duelist pack Jaden and i made sure to play both these cards

My favourite set of all time, Alec pulls 1 Sillva, nice, goes on to pull a freaking Ulti Sillva, the most beautiful of all yugioh cards but STILL decides against playing Dark World. My heart is broken and my day is ruined.

If you think that's bad, his effect in the anime was worse.
He instead of Discarding a card to give a Monster on the Field immunity to Battle Destruction, was instead, when he would be destroyed as a result of battle, you can send a card on your side of the Field to the Graveyard.
Amazing how Paul lost both his Duels by not attacking with Lele 😂
to make the vwxyz card work could be fun if each of you got to port over a few cards from your rare hunters series. Maybe let the looser of each duel grab 1 as a catch up mechanic? Continuity is always fun
Awesome duels pulling off cyber barrier dragon was cool, one minor misplay in duel one though. When Alec attacked steam roid with sparck man steamroid would've lost 500atk, so Paul would've taken 1000 damage. So the turn where Alec compulses Cyber Barrier he would've won with wildhearts attack. But very entertaining nonetheless, the character packs are a very good addition.
I'm pretty sure based on ruilings because steamroid drops it's attack before damage calculation, skyscraper doesn't activate since steamroid is now weaker, so the damage was correct
@agent9671 No both of them are "if" effects. So Skyscraper activates when you declare the attack, and Steamroid's effect activates during the damage step. So it wouldn't miss timing even if they happened at the same time, it would've just chained.
Pretty sure skyscraper was listed and continuous when I looked this up before but I could be wrong, also do remember they are using the ruilings as they were at the time and not modern rules.
@agent9671 True, also thinking on it I could see the ruling being that at the start of battle Sparkman would have the 1000 boost but when Steamroid has its effect active it drops below Sparkman mitigating Skyscraper. So yeah you are most likely correct lol 😁
I for sure say implement a rule to allow some Rare Hunter cards in if you need them for a specific deck, like bringing XYZ Dragon Cannon in to help make VWXYZ Dragon Catapult Cannon

Egyptian God cards Vs
Sacred beasts Vs
Wicked Vs
Earth bound
You have these cards already maybe 100 copies of each.
Have them battle it out
Those would be fun videos

They should hit up Ruxin to learn the difference between retail and hobby boxes. That way they can get access to super and ultra ultis!
I also still stand by the idea they should offer up their overall rarest card and not just the rarest card from their pulls
As a returning player, and big fan of the old animes, I definitely chose the right year to return to the game with the legendary collection, the original booster sets coming out. To get the old nostalgia cards back again.
But even after adapting to the current game with Traptrix and Dark World decks.... other than the speed duel box sets, There really is no way a new player especially young kids could be able to work this stuff out with current product lines.
I was able to because I had played the game before and i just had to retrain different aspects of the game. But the speed duel sets are really the only option for new players to even get a foot in the door
This is all pending on the 2 player starter set release of course but they really do need to focus on releasing Starter Decks and beginner friendly product options more frequently
