  • Tomorrow the PlayStation 5 will finally be revealed with several game reveals seemingly planned along with the possibility of seeing the console itself. How much more Sony will reveal tomorrow is anyone's guess, but new listings found online show that there could be several models planned for launch with one being more expensive than we thought.

    That’s $600 for 2TB. During the presentation, they implied the lowest memory would be 825GB. So, judging by the cost of a SSD, the PS5 should be $450~$500

      Except due to the 825gb starting storage and a 12 channel SSD which is great don’t get me wrong they could only double that which would be 1.650tb model not 2tb

    • @MrOboehobo
      @MrOboehobo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Yeah I dont have a problem with that price for 2tb pci gen 4 nvme storage. If I bought that same drive for my gaming pc it'd be roughly 400 dollars. And the PS5 specs show it's going to perform like an upper midrange pc with the specs it has. A 3700x and RX5700 is nothing to scoff at. $600 would be very competitive for the experience its offering.

      Joking. Liquid cooling would definitely be more expensive. There was a Bloomberg article saying that while most consoles would spend less than a dollar per console on cooling that Sony spent "a few dollars" per console on cooling in the PS5. Liquid cooling would likely push that up too much, but who knows. A vapor chamber and heat pipes are far more likely.

    450-500 I think both companies don’t want to touch the 600$ price tag soon I would expect that price for a mid gen refresh model. But something is telling me Sony will have the PS5 at 400 bucks and take a 50$ loss on each unit if the rumor 450$ is the cost to build the console is correct. But I’m prepared to spend 500-550 and be happy tbh the tech on both machines would easily cost 1200 or more in a PC build.

      For the last 2 generations, going over $400 has put a major crimp in a consoles initial sales, it tripped up the PS3 and XB1 at both their respective launches causing the other company to take a lead. so they probably don't wanna do that again, both companies have been burned. I can see maybe a normal and a Pro model though, and the normal model being $400 and the pro being $500 with like, much bigger SSD, and i dunno? 8k movie support, extra USB's etc

    • @Consolethumbs
      @Consolethumbs 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trakker1985 but most people expect nowadays better products = more money especially since people are dropping 1k on a new phone each year I know I shouldn’t compare a console to a smart phone but they are looking at the market which right now is not so good but I’ve asked some family members that don’t play games etc and asked how much you think this would cost some said 450$ and some with some tech knowledge said around 500-550$.

    • @G360LIVE
      @G360LIVE 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      A $599 price point wouldn't shock me. Consoles have to hit that number at some point, and really, the only stigma with that number is Sony's $599 PS3 debacle back in 2006. If you adjust for inflation, today, that price would be $763. So, I don't think $599, today, would be nearly as much of a shock as if Sony announced a $760 console. I think at $599 people would at first be hesitant, but they'd get past it and just buy the console.

  • @Bones_
    @Bones_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The different SKUs situation seems fairly reasonable this time, because they said that the PS5 will have a secondary drive bay, so to expand the storage does not mean swapping the primary drive it just means installing into the secondary drive. So whether you get the lower or higher priced SKU you are likely getting the same system, with the same primary drive, just the more expensive one has the second drive bay already filled with an additional, likely identical SSD as the primary to double the storage. Which means unlike previously when you got the smaller drive version and were punished with having to drive swap later and deal with that hassle, it's probably as easy as just swapping a secondary hard drive into a laptop that has a secondary drive bay so both versions are appealing. It's more analogous to getting a console that comes with one controller or two.
    Unless Sony decides to prove me wrong tomorrow and the higher storage one only uses the primary drive and just has an even bigger SSD in it, but even then they will still have the secondary drive bay which makes things ideal.

Anyway it basically asked 'how much is too much?'. Most people stated that £600 was the most they'd be willing to pay for ps5. I think most people would pay that (across the globe) if they truly have an amazing library of games and exclusive deals of xbox (as they had with the current gen). While I won't be buying a launch ps5 (not in the financial position for it) I would still save up for that amount and buy it however many months down the line.

    GBP600 would likely translate to USD700 in the US, that would be very expensive if this ends up being accurate

    It's 2020 and not 2006. 14 years later 600 dollars shouldn't be upsetting anymore. With inflation 600 dollars today would have been around 470 dollars in 2006.

    $600 from 2006 is the equivalent to $763 today. So, $600 for the 2tb PS5 model doesn't seem expensive to me.

    Yeah but when companies list 1TB, 2TB, it isn't actually that... it's more like 900GB/1.8TB... You know this. So either it's actually 700GB models, or they're just being honest about how much space is in it, rather then the weird conversion rate that windows lists 1TB etc

    The storage size is odd. I'd wager it's probably a 1 TB drive with about 100 GiBs reserved for the system, game asset swapping, etc. Converting GigaBytes to GibiBytes (GiB), a 1 TB drive is ~931 GiB in size, subtract around a 100 GiB and you're in the ballpark of that 825 GiB figure.

    Are people still complaining about 600 for a gaming console that are sold at a small profit margin and lasts 7 years... when millions are upgrading their phones every 2-3 years for $1000 and at a big profit margin 🤨🤔

    If people can buy 900 to 1100 phones. and 2000 - 3000 gaming pcs... THEN they can buy a potential 600 to 800 PS5.

    I wonder why console makers wait so long to allow preorders? I would think you could use that data as a minimum target number to have at launch. Maybe they don’t want the liability of not being able to deliver that number also. Especially now that the economic scene across the globe is grim in some regions. It’s all very interesting

    I don't understand how people somehow expect any of the next consoles to be around 400 dollars. Also, there's always a lot of "listings" like this before new consoles are released which are usually very wrong. I would say the safest bet would be 500 for regular ps5. I don't believe there will be any model with 2tb at launch either. I'm not an expert, but my guess is that it would be a nightmare, not only in marketing terms but also in terms of production, especially considering the current situation with Covid-19.

    I'm fine if there's a 2tb / $600 option. A 1TB NVME is $110-180 right now anyway, and will probably see a small spike when the PS5 comes out considering demand - in the end it's a savings for something I would have put in anyway.

    I think a bunch of youtubers are out of touch when it comes to pricing. Yeah back when PS3 came out it was expensive but now people walk around with $800 to a $1000 dollar phone in their pockets. If it ends up living up to the hype, $600 would be a steal imo.

    I would love to pay a lower price than $600 but many people spend $700-$1000 for a phone that they only keep for a year, maybe two. So why wouldn’t Playstation think people will spend $600 for something they’ll have for 5 years or even longer?

    The lack of widely available models of TVs to experience the power of these next gen consoles will play a major role in dragging down launch success. I'd say possibly much more so, than system pricing out of the gate.

    If they have a 2 or more TB system I'll go for it. I see storage price and system price as separate costs. On phones it doesn't make sense most of the time because the price increase is too drastic, but with the PS5 it might make sense.

    I'm totally ok with a 600 option, or even if that was regular price. We pay between 900-1050 almost annually, or atleast semi annually for smartphones, where 600 once every 5- 7 years for top notch gaming next gen consoles I'm totally ok with. I mean sure back in the PS3 time that was pricey, but advanced tech cost, and I'm totally in support to pay it.
