It is first class. It's very well built. The ties that connect the inside joists to the deck joist blew my mind! I've never seen that before. The choice to use abs plastic on the kick plates is wise. Abs is easy to keep clean, and it stays vibrant white like that pretty much forever... the way he 45 the ends of the deck boards to use another deck board as a end cap is friggin genius! I watch a lot of construction videos and this is definitely top notch build quality. I hope he compacted well under that pad..
Nice job, it looks amazing compared to before. I wish that I would of used the flex tape when I built a 16 by 24 ft. Deck on the back of my house years ago. Thanks for another informative video.!

Never fails!!! That's crazy, I remembered when you painted the old steps. The deck looks amazing. Keep it up, adding so much value to your home. Enjoyed every minute!
After watching this video I have an entirely new understanding of and appreciation for the tireless work, skills, know-how, planning, patience, tools and pure grit that go into something as simple and as taken for granted as a nice set of front stairs with an attractive railing!!! Who knew?!?! My compliments to you, Matt, and to Mrs Fixer for the lovely seasonal finishing touches!
You were very methodical in selecting the materials used to make your front porch. All of them require little to no maintenance. Smart planning and execution.
Amazing work, very detailed and well explained process. Including your mistake and showing how you went about fixing it was a solid integrity move. Loved the content, earned a subscriber!

That really looks classy, Matt. Well done. Very much like what you have done with the front of the house overall. You've given it an inviting, cozy look. Did you ever find time to finish sealing the basement?
Hey, JW. Honestly I haven't done much of anything. As you may have seen, I had to take a step back from TH-cam but I am ramping back up. Stay tuned, I have lot's of great stuff planned for the rest of the year and into the next! Thanks for watching the video!!

I've been waiting for this one since you painted the old steps and it did not disappoint! I love the look. It just adds so much to the front of the house.
Wow this was awesome! I want a front deck system like this. I did not realize how much work an attention to detail there was. Now I won't squint when someone gives me a quote. But I will make sure they don't cut corner! Lol
I'm considering copying those shutters for my home! I absolutely love watching folks with woodworking skills and thought as I watched "man he's really making sure this deck stays put for years to come!" I learned a few things that I'll be doing on future projects. I really love the transformation! Great job!!
I was screaming at you in front of my phone when you forgot the vapor barrier! This is awesome! Your porch is built so beautiful, sturdy and strong that an elephant could dance on it. 😜 Now I am hooked on your other projects.
Fantastic job, I have the same ugly steps in front of my house and am having the same deck built with composite boards. They are building over the old steps since they have sunk into the ground. I am 70 yrs old and love your videos.
Very nice!! My godson and I have been binge watching your videos since the Summer...this is his last apprenticeship year in construction and he's so excited. With me, more like once every project...yeah. anyway, your technical skill always impresses me, but my favorite part of your projects is how pretty they are. Another job very well done here!
Good evening. I just came across your video and it totally captures exactly what I am trying to do to my home. Question. I absolutely love that siding color. What type of Siding and color is it?? Your help is appreciated so much
Dear The Fixer, Thank you for showing us how to do it. I have few question : - how much does it cost ? (A range) - Is it possible to use this way to do a small deck with the stairway ? - how long it took to accomplished the whole job ? Thank you.
As much work as this was, I'm kinda surprised you didn't make it a couple feet wider so you could put up chairs on that porch! Regardless, this looks lightyears beyond what it used to. Great work!
My dad was a carpenter that could do plumbing and electrical. He always worked for someone else so he couldn't afford to do it but he could have. And when I was growing up every man, even the really dumb ones, could do carpentry so I just thought they all could. I was married to a guy that could not even build a Lincoln log house.
I’ve re done every bathroom in our house , finished the basement, built an office. Etc yes it’s nice saving the money on that but man it takes up a lot of time
It looks amazing! I really appreciate these time lapses and information. Instead of saying I wish my husband could do this, you really inspire ME to wanna be able to accomplish things like this one day! How long did this whole project take?
What a lot of work. Hats off to be willing to go back and fix the one step, many others would not have done that. We think of steps as a simple thing to build, whereas you showed that it is much more involved then that.
I'm building mine with lights with it... So, it can look during the daytime look great... but, at night, looks awesome!!!!.. Awesome job dude.(Matt).... Very impressed...
Awesome work …… You accomplished a Complete dismantle and rebuild. I enjoyed every minute of your video. Your attention to detail is superior ! ! ! Thanks for sharing this with us.
This is a great instructive video. Workmanship is top notch. What is really amazing is seeing all of the facets of this project come together in the PROPER sequence which is essential to getting it done in a timely manner. Many homeowners (including me) have had the DIY experience of missing a step on a project and having to back and do a redo. Nothing I hate more than rework. Thank you for sharing your work. Just a request if possible: It would be great if you would post the list of materials you used for this project including lumber sizes and fastener details. Thanks.
I was so glad to see you go back to put the in the forgotten vapor barrier and returned copper J channel. When I saw you silicone around the bolts I said, Wow! Not that I know much about construction but have experienced what happens when it is done wrong. We bought a house in February 2015. Late that spring, my husband was down in his workshop and found water on the floor after a night of rain. He removed a foam board off that wall to discover evidence of water running down the wall for probably years. We never associated the deck being installed in that area with the water problem. Who knew there were circular channels that run the length of the composite deck boards. The deck was out of level enough that it was obvious. The low side was next to the house. My husband tore out deck that looked good but was useless. He had cut a few boards, knocked on the slider for me, tipped one of the boards and we watched water gush out.. we were shocked! He removed all of the deck and we hired a contractor friend to come over and investigate what was going on with the basement. He checked the sill plate and found about 2 feet of it was wet and spongy. He replaced the damaged section. Our contractor said the installation of the deck caused the problem there was no water diversion system installed next to the house. We now have a nice concrete patio installed and no more water running down the wall.
Yeah that was a silly mistake of mine. I was trying to work too fast. Sorry to hear about your deck issue but happy to hear you got it fixed! Thanks for watching!
Your deck is beautiful! I have watched so many of your videos, they are all very educational! Thank you for sharing your home renovation! I enjoy watching them all!
Wow this is such a great video, simple, clean production, great music. Music really helps the positive vibe going on in this video. I really appreciate you taking the time to share this project with us, a huge Thank You Matt!
I have seen decks 20 feet in the air that weren’t built that solid! Amazing! Also, love how you encapsulated the vertical beams on all sides with wood. Much more solid.
That front stairway is a masterpiece of strength & beauty ... fantastic job. I have almost identical front steps of concrete. Considering covering the concrete with treated frame and Trex steps. I'm too old to break up the old concrete. Figured on building a stairway over & around them so they will be a strong base but never again seen. lol
Love the idea! I considered it with this but was a little worried about the potential rot against the house if I didn't chip it out and fix what was there. Probably would have been fine but oh well haha. Thanks for watching and for the awesome feedback! Good luck with your project!
You think this is the same guy doing all this? He is amazing. He does all of this work and makes a great video at the same time? Amazing. Only videos I watch that I actually slow down!!
