This era is so nostalgic for me. Everyday after college class, so many of us would meet and duel in the student life lounge of the campus. Everyone had a unique deck and strategy. Closest experience to real life GX I ever had. Good times…

As someone that started playing competitive in 2010, it feels so strange to see Edison being THE format of 2010 since those playing at the time will mostly just remember people spamming blackwing, x saber and infernity at locals for the whole year. Edison was mostly a "yeah there was one event in between", kind of like at the start of this year where we had just one or two events with kashtira AND pre-banlist tearlaments
I think that is one of the appeals of Edison for a lot of people. Unlike GOAT, which has been explored so extensively that you can almost say the format has been solved, Edison is completely uncharted territory.
Little known fact about Machina : they are a dm era archetype with the first gen machina (soldier, sniper, defender, force) appearing in the yugioh R manga.
I've been wondering if there's a name for the format post cat and toad banned, pre starstrike blast seems like a pretty diverse format Noones exploring
I never played during these times. I only played competitive since 2019 so all this is amazing history helps me learn since I recently started Edison Im hyped ❤️🔥
I took a break from yugioh about the time 5Ds dub came to the US and didnt come back til Master Duel came so its really nice to see a look back on stuff that I missed
Oh how I cherish those memories of YCS Bochum. ❤It was our first major event as 13 year olds and I scrubbed out 2:3 with Diva Hero. Was so exciting to play against people from all around Europe.
It is amazing to see what came out of the wood work after the mid year bans. Apparently people could just play late 2008 decks no prob 🙃 truely nostalgic to see that salvo deck
These videos are absolutely amazing. I love rewatching them in parts daily to learn about the game when I was on hiatus. Also, you narration is top notch. Keep doing this amazing job.
QuickDraw DandyWarrior is my favorite deck. When I 1st saw Yusei doing QuickDraw Synchron combo with Level Eater that was insane. I was so excited watching that episode because I knew level eater was going to be printed soon
46:12 - I completely forgot Disaster Dragon got a top here in the west at this time. It normally performed better in the EU as we'll probably see in the 2011 video. 48:30 - There's a couple other things about SD Marik people may not be aware of. The first one was that it's a TCG Exclusive Structure Deck that's loosely based on a SD that the OCG got in 2004 that we got because they couldn't release what would have been the next Structure Deck that came from the OCG. That's because following Machina Mayhem the OCG got Dragunity Legion for the then fully released Dragunity archetype which we didn't have yet due to Hidden Arsenal 3 not being out yet so I bet they had to come up with something else as people were expecting it to come as one of the big selling points of the SD was the first common print of Mirror Force. Thus we got SD Marik which also had a common Mirror Force in it. Following SD Marik we'd get Dragunity Legion a few months later though part of me does wonder how the format would have turned out if we got the SD in Oct 2010 instead. Phalanx wouldn't be legal since it wasn't in the SD but we'd still have access to Dragon Ravine and I hear that's kind of a good card.
Steven Silverman used to run our locals shop when I got into the game. This is such a cool series. My friends convinced me to play and then set me up with 3 Machina Mayhem structures, and I spent 40 dollars worth of quarters to buy my first mirror force lol
30:53 - swear I met this guy at YCS Chicago 2012. A *much* worse time for the YGO than this video's subject! Seriously, 2010 was one of the best years ever. Not only because of Edison, but Starstrike format as well. While not as balanced, it's a seriously fun format without much of a modern retro community. Some of my most favorite cards came out this year and it was spectacular one for me, personally.
oh i remember the gravekeeper deck acting like a ftk with the right starting hand discard almost your entire hand, its when i quit yu gi oh after losing a final to this deck lol
13:12 i don't get it, why can't it come back? Im not reading anything that explicitly states that it needs to be summoned properly first to return. Can someone please explain this to me?
Extra Deck monsters all have an inherent condition that they cannot be revived from the graveyard unless they were properly summoned. Starlight Road skips the proper synchro summon of Stardust, meaning it cannot be revived, even by its own effect.

Fitting how this comes out this soon after DB finally made the Edison ladder.
Intentional to hit the YT algorithm? If so pretty smart
yea it helped get me into edison format. Another one I wanted to try was Tengu Plant.
Hi Joshua Schmidt
He’s going to notalgia trip when he watches this Edison edition ❤
Hi Joshua Schmidt
Every night I lay awake wondering about the history of 2010 Yugioh. Thank you.
Me too

Can’t decide if 2010 or 2011 was my favorite year. So much fun stuff, so many good and interesting decks.
Little known fact about Machina : they are a dm era archetype with the first gen machina (soldier, sniper, defender, force) appearing in the yugioh R manga.
This will give me some deck ideas for my YGO World Championship 2011 playthrough. Great video!
Time to watch it and then to watch the Joshua Schmidt reaction in the days to come ^^
I like Edison but honestly I love the card pool post Edison more in the 5ds era
I've been wondering if there's a name for the format post cat and toad banned, pre starstrike blast seems like a pretty diverse format Noones exploring
X-Saber Format, it’s actually played frequently
I’ve been wanting an all encompassing history of yugioh in a documentary style video and this is exactly that, thank you please keep up the good work
2010 was a wild year for the TCG, indeed.
I never played during these times. I only played competitive since 2019 so all this is amazing history helps me learn since I recently started Edison Im hyped ❤️🔥

Watching these recaps get me so hyped to play Yu-Gi-Oh and make sone of these decks. Great video!

Obelisk being Edison legal is still one of my favorite thinga

Imo Yugioh peaked from September 2010 to October 2011 but the whole 5DS Era was truly enjoyable! 🎉

I still can't believe they named a card "Gae Bulg"
welcome to irish mythology
It was Long Beach, California, not Florida. Great videos, 2009-2010 were my favorite Yugioh playing years.

Time for one the most impactful sets of all time. In the Top 5 IMO
2010 was when yugioh went over the edge.
Amazing video! Thank you!
Hello Josh's Twitch stream!
This is really interesting to look back at. Do a vid for every year bro👍👍👍
Odd that you mention flamvell baby and archer at 47:33 but the decklist shown just uses the standard package of magician and dog, good video still
49:05
Grapha: “Are you sure about that?”

It's been enough time luncher can come back to 3.
We know for a fact that launcher at 2 is no danger.
Cant wait to watch this in full via Joshua Schmidt
Starting this before i go to bed so I fall asleep but still giving the video a view so I can watch joshua watch it
Quickdraw Dandy Warrior sounds like a Yugioh card name.
The Famvell decklist at 47:32 isn't running baby or archer.
Hello Joshua Schmidts Tuesday Stream. How were the YCS Streams? Are we Shocked that Rescue Ace won?
Yess yess yess yess cant get enough
Sweet a whole hour!
