People are going to spend the money it's nice to see somthing different if it's a new modle. Why dose anybody go out a pay big monthly payments for a new car when you can usally fix any problem on a used car for less than people pay every mounth for a payment.
When I bought my truck people NOT being able to tell how old it is was a positive thing for me. I bought a used 2012 Frontier in 2020. Vehicle was 8 years old and still looked like a brand new one. 😂 Saved like 10-15k as compared to a new one even after spending money to add a backup camera.
Roman is maybe the grumpiest person covering EV trucks regularly. He seems half asleep during this video lol. Can they get Andre someone mildly enthusiastic in Rivian or ev trucks. I actually like Rivians and EV trucks and Andre's coverage has been pretty good but this video is just Roman again rehashing his views on why EV trucks don't really work, his views on technology, and his views on charging. All of those things are fair but if you're watching this video you probably understand all of that and it doesn't apply to you or it doesn't bother you.
Haha still watching but yeah Roman just doesn’t seem to be an EV guy. It’s ok though to have that perspective to balance out Andre, and as cool as the vehicles are they do have some downsides. Things like charging will be fixed over time though. Personally, Rivian is my choice with all of these trucks.
How do you complain about 0- 60 times not mattering for trucks, when you constantly drag race trucks! Then in the towing test you see how fast it hits 60.
Back in the day you changed the body of the car and kept the same engine for 20 years, today you keep the body and change the tech. And I think that you don't sell EVs by looks but by upgrading the tech, mostly the range. I do get the Rivian /Tesla approach.
Quite a tornado of overt misogyny, and weirdly inaccurate references to Apple, whose iPhone has looked the same for the past decade. Thank you, Andre, for trying to hold it together and make this post informative and relevant.
Maybe things were different in the 60s/70s, but I doubt it. No automaker is updating models yearly. Also, the main intent on this refresh isn’t driving up volume, it’s cutting production costs and gearing up for higher production models like R2/R3.
The Rivians still look good to me unlike the stainless steel, angular, refrigerator look of the Cybertruck. The good thing is now we have numerous choices when it comes to EV trucks. And that's a good thing. 51:17
I agree that caring about exterior changes is an old way of looking at cars. They changed a TON of components and made the vehicles significantly better.
Is anyone else getting tired of Roman's grumpy old man routine? If this was a Big 3 or Toyota product Roman would be singing the praises of the major refresh. This video would have been more valuable for viewers and the TFL brand if Tommy had been swapped in for Roman.
All of Roman’s arguments are falling flat here. My neighbors perspective the last thing I’m thinking of when buying a truck. Also, evolutionary changes preserve value of the gen 1 trucks. See 911, See Rolls Royce, see ford f150 for godssake. Also where were these perf arguments when evaluating the TRX and Raptor? Finally - probably less than 10% of truck buyers tow on even a semi regular basis.
I’m glad you think it’s ok for the E.P.A and truck manufacturers to tell us all what we need because 6 out 10 buyers won’t use truck capabilities anyhow…. Defeats the purpose , so why buy it then if that what a truck is supposed to do and designed for. 😂
Why buy a Camaro if you’re not a race car driver? Why buy a jeep if you don’t live in a forest/jungle/desert? Unless you’re buying a work truck, own a farm or a ranch - miss me with this.
Of course, Rivian is struggling to survive. They didn't have the money to spend on making the new Rivian look different. I think they should be commended for spending money on substantive improvements, not surface appearances.
Roman, I’m not really sure what you are talking about in reference to the changes that Apple makes boy it’s computers because it’s hey do not change the basic design all that often. In fact other than ports or keyboard functions you’d have to go back more than a decade to see any drastic changes. Also, you are describing two COMPLETELY different computers that Apple makes. One is an iMac which is basically an all in one desktop and the other one you are talking about is a Mac Mini which is just the computer itself. However the iMac just had a redesign a couple of years ago after roughly 10 years of looking the same m. The Mac Mini has had the same design for several years now. In the almost 20 years of the iPhone they have had 4 designs changes. Lastly let me add this because sorry but you complaint just doesn’t make much sense, the Tacoma & F-150 make very few design changes to where 95% of people, even car people, wouldn’t know the model year until they got close enough to see it yet they are the best selling trucks on the market. The simple fact is it is significantly more important to have OTA updates that doesn’t make your vehicle obsolete and Han major design changes.
I care more about functional improvement, not cosmetic change. Roman doesn’t realize Apple makes very few outside changes most years, just internal improvement.
What is missing in this discussion is the cost reduction in both production and material cost. A major change in body would add cost with little value. The changes in the motors, computer and part reduction provide better value at lower cost.
I don't think Roman had his morning espresso... heck, I do not think he was fully awake during this video 🤣. I don't care that it looks like the Gen1... the Gen2 updates cover some of the concerns I had. I am so glad that I waited a few months for these to come out. So much for keeping my Jeep Gladiator Mojave and adding a new Telsa Model Y when it came out... forget that. I will be trading my Jeep Gladiator Mojave for a Rivian Tri-Motor!!
As been said over and over….trucks are not being used for “truck” things as you allude to by most people. Rivian knows there are too many competitors in the full and midsize segment that do “truck” things well. They are appealing more to those that want to have adventure on occasion and not towing anything or very little. 98% of time commuting. You want to tow buy an ice, just forget about towing with EV trucks right now…..we al know it’s not their strong suit. But ice trucks don’t have 1000hp or 2.9 0-60 sec. To each their own.
It does tow 11,000lbs. Which is impressive for its size. Granted, I know you’re only going about 150-200 miles with the big battery when towing. Which could be respectable, that’s a little of 2 hours towing. I don’t tow things for that long usually.
Biggest problem with towing with an EV (assuming you have a decent sized battery) isn’t actually the range. The max battery in this case will do about 200 miles with a decent sized camper/boat. That’s similar to gas pickups. The problem is not enough charging stations and those that exist aren’t set up for trailers. Ever try maneuvering a 25-30ft trailer in a Walmart or Burger King parking lot? Hopefully that changes in time.
Ironic Apple reference. I bet Roman can't tell the difference between current and several previous generations of Macbooks or iPhones or Airpods or iPads or apple watches. He is the master of arguing against himself.

Y’all are wild talking about how everyone needs to do/does a complete refresh on a mid cycle facelift especially with the new company that hasn’t even been out that long. Financially doesn’t make sense. Couple examples, Durango, Charger, Challenger, Raptor/Raptor R, Tacoma, 4runner, Mazda 3, Miata, Jeep(everything), Frontier just to name a few. Perspective much? it’s a refresh they’re trying to keep/have an identity. It’s fine. Sidenote, I’m really looking forward to the dual motor with the larger battery. I still wish they broke up that side panel for ease of repair.

Roman, I appreciate your opinion. I also raise the argument you made in connection to Apple/Hyundai/Kia to take into account two things; margin and economies of scale. For margin, companies like apple are in a different market segment with drastically different margin in comparison to the automotive industry as a whole. For economies of scale, Hyundai and Kia produce significantly more vehicles annually, allowing them to focus more of their efforts on drastic visual changes to their models YoY.
I didn’t expect to watch this entire clip but honestly, this was the best review on this vehicle that I’ve come across. It’s a casual conversation without the hype. I have a 100 grand and I’m more prone to buy this truck after watching this debate. Pay once. Cry once.
1 hour of video to hear Roman wenge on about what he thinks make a truck a truck. Roman is never going to like Rivian. That's it. End of story. Rivian doesn't care either - they evolved an existing platform, refined it, made it more efficient and expanded the packaging. Granted, they took some features out to keep the pricing effective for the base truck which bugs me as a potential buyer - the glass roof, tow hooks, camp speaker, bedside power and air pump are all optional now to keep the price down.
This is a good refresh. They did a lot to improve the technology and driving characteristics-which for a pickup was already pretty great. I don’t agree with the take that the truck is too feminine lol, but to each their own. I appreciate that it looks different but in a way much more approachable than what Tesla did with the CT.
If Rivian has so much financial trouble why would you think it a good idea make tooling changes for the sake of just being different? Also that macbook on the desk looks exactly like the one i had in 2012 so your comparison to apple seems flawed as well
I'd not call this a face lift, it the total opposit, generaly a face lift changes the aestetics trying to boost the sales without changing much of the underpinnings to save cost. The aestetics of the rivian mostly stayed the same, the changes are mostly where you can't see them
With over 400 miles of range the higher voltage isn't really needed because after you drive 350+ miles you are ready for a 30 to 40min break to get back to 80%. The 800 volt architecture would be more useful for a towing package because after 175 to 200 miles of towing you don't want to sit around waiting to charge if you need to travel further.
My wife likes the new Santa Fe because it's boxy, capable looking SUV. She likes the "I men business" style, and she wasn't big on the previous iteration, which was curvy.
I find it funny that vehicle manufacturers always boast about 0-60 times and people eat it up...Then driving around they never use anything that has to do with a 0-60 time.
Roman should have gone to the reveal for his prime rib meal. Probably was sushi tho 😊. I really am astounded by the Rivian’s specs. I want to see it on the Ike challenge and I want to see Tommy’s take. The Rivian is capable and the range is great. Is this a work truck? Not the quad or tri motor for sure and would stick to the F150 XL for that
Y'know, when Roman calls the interior "too feminine" it just tells me he's insecure in his own masculinity than anything else. Have something to tell us, Roman? 😆
The concept electric Tacoma looks pretty good. I would take that over the current electric truck options. I've seen a couple cybertruck in person and they look terrible. The rivan looks better, I would get it over the cybertruck.
Agreed, I am going to get an R1T or R1S. Still deciding but the new motors, range, heat pumps, tech improvements, and refinement make these vehicles more impressive. Pricing is still painful when you get to the tri motor and likely the new quad motor. But they need to get profits and they lack the volumes to compete more aggressively on price. I also hope they off the quad motor setup with the large pack. The max pack is great but not all of us want to drop 14K on a battery upgrade. Bottom line for such a new vehicle seeing this many under the hood mods for a firm tight on cash is more significant than it is ho hum.
How can you recommend an F150 Lightning due to the anticipated depression after 5 years. I am seeing about 43% depression.

A Rivian is not a work truck.. Ford and and GM has the work truck market.. Rivian sells to the general car/truck market who go the general outdoors..
I’m not really looking forward to an electric anything purchase. However, I know it’s coming as California makes sure you have no choice. When I do, it will be a Rivian. I doubt I’ll look at anything else.
Electric Car Math is different. Power and speed are byproducts of increased range. As the battery pack gets bigger, it can deliver more current, and therefore the car can be fast. These trucks just _happen_ to be fast as a byproduct of them having good range and good off-roading abilities. It’s not like an ICE car where speed needs to be focused on.

Currently I have a model x but really looking into the Rivian. The cyber truck is out of my price range. The Rivian is a better offroader, camping, and overloading. BUT third party chargers suck and over priced
Musk explained, Chips will be used to develop AI used by both companies immediately, if sent to Tesla, would sit in warehouse for 6-9 months before Tesla can use directly, so is GOOD management and good use of capital investment
After actual seeing what Tesla QC is like there's no way Id take it offroad. Personally the SIlverado EV is my favorite, although it's overpriced, the lightning just does nothing well or unique. For offroading the Rivian for sure.
Only people with the most fragile of egos would give 2 shits about what their neighbor thinks about what truck they drive. 1. Do I like it? 2. Is it a good value for what it is? 3. Does it function as intended? What the hell else matters?!
In what world is the cybertruck a better off road truck? because it looks meaner!? Quad motor in the r1t allows each wheel to be controlled independently depending on the surface its on for minimum wheel slippage and torque vectoring. Being able to put down all your power on one wheel per axel is not an advantage when you can already put down >250hp and 300lbft on a single wheel with the quad motor. The rivian has slightly less clearance but far better articulation. The rivian also has an air compressor and somewhere to store a spare tire, a must for offroading or even just driving in the deep country side. Everything about the rivian is designed for people who want to go on adventures offroad (even if for most that means just dirt roads), the cybertruck is made for people that want to be noticed (all of the specs like the not so bullet proof exterior are made to be bragged about but never used)
I have to say I am more aligned with Roman for this review. The new 22's are horrendously ugly. I have to see I wasn't impressed with the updates. I was in the market for a new truck and I decided go with a used Gen1 rather than a new Gen2. I drove them back to back and I not enough of an upgrade to warrant the extra $$$. I have a Plaid with the track pack, and TBH, the Gen1 quad motor is plenty fast for a truck. I don't need a 10 second 7,000 pound vehicle. I guarantee the breaks won't be up to it. The tri-motor max was available when I was looking and the quad still made the most sense. A tri max was about 110k. Now if they have kept the large pack the same size (they shrunk it compared to Gen1) and had gone 800 volt architecture, I would have been more likely to have gone with a Gen 2. When I could buy a Gen 1 quad large pack for about half the price of a tri max, it made much more sense to buy a used, super low miles one. Had the truck for a few weeks but it was absolutely the right choice. It will get me buy until my R2 comes in or they come out with a Gen3 R1.
I dont buy a truck based upon the body shape newness.. a new truck needs improvements that really count like the internals.the riviian has a new base model with LFP batteries.. lower base price.. etc
I’m curious if you take the same attitude towards the RAM luxury style truck or the Ridgeline. Rivian being “feminine” and luxury is a weak criticism. Stick with the real problems.
Cyber truck is as ugly as a truck can get = the Rivian update refined what is already awesome vehicle - i am for one glad the looks was not changed - continue to improve function under the hoot - ie computer power which will allow future upgrades going forward

Rivian needs rear wheel steering!!
I like rivian. Hope they do well. Looking forward to the r3x
If Rivian has so much financial trouble why would you think it a good idea make tooling changes for the sake of just being different? Also that macbook on the desk looks exactly like the one i had in 2012 so your comparison to apple seems flawed as well
I can’t wait to see you guys test the Base LFP Version
I'd not call this a face lift, it the total opposit, generaly a face lift changes the aestetics trying to boost the sales without changing much of the underpinnings to save cost.
The aestetics of the rivian mostly stayed the same, the changes are mostly where you can't see them
With over 400 miles of range the higher voltage isn't really needed because after you drive 350+ miles you are ready for a 30 to 40min break to get back to 80%. The 800 volt architecture would be more useful for a towing package because after 175 to 200 miles of towing you don't want to sit around waiting to charge if you need to travel further.
12:46 IKR…I can care less how fast my truck can go 0-60 ….Improve its range and tow ability.
Its more of a power demo really
Same with towing and truck makers.
People love the look of the trucks but want better software based on reviews. So why try to make it look different?
I don’t agree with Roman. I like the looks of the Rivian. It doesn’t look feminine, it looks athletic
I like the styling of the truck currently with its curvy sexy design. I hate square boxy hard corner designs a lot of new trucks have now.
How can you recommend an F150 Lightning due to the anticipated depression after 5 years. I am seeing about 43% depression.
the lightening rides like a big boat and fits the work truck person.. the GM design looks horrible.. I would buy the Rivian dual motor base model with the LFP battery
A Rivian is not a work truck.. Ford and and GM has the work truck market.. Rivian sells to the general car/truck market who go the general outdoors..
I think Rivian did cost cut for with no comprimise but can they produce without losing money?
I’m not really looking forward to an electric anything purchase. However, I know it’s coming as California makes sure you have no choice. When I do, it will be a Rivian. I doubt I’ll look at anything else.
All I hear is "The First addition R1's should go on sale soon:"
Amazon is what is keeping Rivian alive and continuing development
The R2 has 100k+ preorders in 3months and the Volkswagen partnership is a huge investment. They’ll be fine imho.
Could not said it better
Rivian is the only EV pickup that would fit in my garage.
Better size/fit overall.
Range is less important than changing curve, which they didn’t improve
I really appreciated that TFL showed/discussed the display models and tech updates.
Andre we love you. Roman. It’s ok bud it’s exhausting being the president of Tfl you have every right to be tired bud if you need a minute it’s ok check a email or two. Delegate a few things to Andre and tommy and the team Then get a bit of rest or read a book. Then get back to work the next day. Ps I know Nathan moving to California is a lot as well mentally and emotionally. Heck I’m scared
Roman says thanks for the advise.
The looks of R1T is the right one. Truck ppl like more masculine ones but they don’t like EV. EV ppl are less aggressive.
Also sounds like Roman is coping extra hard having wasted over a hundred grand on a cyber truck. No one likes it, and he's justifying it as the best.
Currently I have a model x but really looking into the Rivian. The cyber truck is out of my price range. The Rivian is a better offroader, camping, and overloading. BUT third party chargers suck and over priced
The average car shopper could car less about what is underneath and the tech. They will look at this "refresh" and say "What's different again?"
Where's the Ranger Raptor videos?
Musk explained, Chips will be used to develop AI used by both companies immediately, if sent to Tesla, would sit in warehouse for 6-9 months before Tesla can use directly, so is GOOD management and good use of capital investment
Roman - curious.. compare design to the Ridgeline... they feel alot the same on the inside (i.e. feminine)
I’m sorry but the Rivian is miles better looking than the cyber pig and better built.
lol! MacBook hardly changes how they look.
Exactly.
somebody needs a snicker ;)
I like the R1T better than the R1S looks wise.
Everything about the rivian is designed for people who want to go on adventures offroad (even if for most that means just dirt roads), the cybertruck is made for people that want to be noticed (all of the specs like the not so bullet proof exterior are made to be bragged about but never used)
Yuk! Roman sure knows how to say some idiotic and ignorant things 😮😮😮.
Lol...Roman needs to get more rest. It's definitely more of a truck than the Cyber beast. Someone Get Tommy stat!!!!
I like everything about Rivian except those front headlights. That ugly front is so bad it's a dealbreaker.
I think Musk's decision to send Nvidia chips to X vs Tesla, has everything to do with a pending vote regarding his pay package at Tesla.
It definitely needs physical buttons for HVAC system and other common things
Roman is saying some sexist stuff. No longer a fan.
The 2nd gen R1s have a 40% more crawling torque
I dont buy a truck based upon the body shape newness.. a new truck needs improvements that really count like the internals.the riviian has a new base model with LFP batteries.. lower base price.. etc
52:42 I’d buy a Rivian …
Horsepower sells trucks! Why did Ford make the Raptor? I traded my CTSV Blackwing for Quad R1T! Why you ask? Horsepower !!!
Rivian is so much smaller than a silverado and cyber truck. Ford f150 seems ancient
I’m curious if you take the same attitude towards the RAM luxury style truck or the Ridgeline. Rivian being “feminine” and luxury is a weak criticism. Stick with the real problems.
Tesla will update the Cybertruck with more power soon now.... Cant finish second to this .
Cyber truck is as ugly as a truck can get = the Rivian update refined what is already awesome vehicle - i am for one glad the looks was not changed - continue to improve function under the hoot - ie computer power which will allow future upgrades going forward
Yay more power but No more range ? No thanks.
Why do we have to forever accept this “model year” business that started 100 years ago? Maybe you need some fresh thinking.
