    *PLEASE READ: This functionality doesn't work in Thunderbird 115. However, we're working on native support for manually sorting ALL folders in Thunderbird, not just accounts. Stay tuned, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

    BONUS TIPS:
    1) The keyboard shortcut for this command is ALT + ⬆/⬇ (OPTION + ⬆/⬇ on macOS.
    2) Account Settings can also be accessed by the Spaces toolbar, App Menu, and Account Central.

    Is the email kept on the local server (desktop)? If so what is the storage limit for the application? Currently using Outlook and constantly being badgered to increase storage on cloud server (which I won't do).
    Appreciate a response.

    • @jcarkesteijn
      @jcarkesteijn ปีที่แล้ว

      You're probably using an IMAP connection, and then the issue isn't the storage limit on your desktop. Why? Because IMAP synchronizes your emails between Thunderbird and the cloud storage. In other words: an email is only deleted from the cloud, when and if it's deleted in Thunderbird. So, you'll pretty much need the same amount of space on your desktop, as on your cloud storage.
      If you have more room on your desktop than in the cloud, you could consider switching from an IMAP-connection to a POP3-connection. Simply put: POP3 doesn't synchronize, but it downloads the emails to your desktop. Set the server settings in Thunderbird to either delete emails 1) immediately after downloading or 2) after a specific number of days after downloading - and you'll see your storage will magically free up and the badgering will cease 😉
      The first option is fine if you use just one desktop/laptop/tablet/phone for that email address/account. The second might work if you use multiple devices frequently enough (!) for all of them to 'download' the emails before they're deleted from the cloud storage. Try using a large number of days at first, and slowly decrease this number until you're no longer being badgered. (And keep in mind you'll have to delete emails from multiple devices, since POP3 disregards the deletion of an email on a device. No syncing, but downloading, right?)
      Kind in mind: using POP3 (and auto-deletion of mails) is a great space saver for your cloud storage. BUT if you only have a desktop and something happens to it, you lose all your emails!
      Paying for extra storage isn't fun (as a Dutchman I understand 😉), but this storage normally serves as a backup as well.
      So, when making a choice, consider how much trouble you'd be in if all emails would be lost. (And if you do't want to pay AND can't lose your emails: how well-disciplined you'd be in making regular backups.)
      Small disclaimer: I am no techie, just a happy Thunderbird user. Since this video really helped me, I'd like to pay a bit back by helping you. So, I hope this helps!

    • @Constitutionalable
      @Constitutionalable ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jcarkesteijn I should have been more accurate in my writing. I had been using Outlook 2007 on my desktop (IMAP bidirectional synching). The Outlook pst file on the desktop filled. Archiving didn't help much. I then stopped using the Outlook 2007 on the desktop and switched to Outlook on the internet. Subsequent to that I continually approached the 15GB free storage in the cloud server. Started looking for an alternative. Found Thunderbird. Haven't started using Thunderbird yet but was curious if Thunderbird stored the data locally and could I then just delete all the email on the Outlook cloud server (assuming there is a way to use Thunderbird on the local desktop and perhaps configure it so the deletions made on the cloud storage would not synch and delete the emails on the local server in Thunderbird).
      Clear as mud???
