    Excellent. Or eggs soylent. I don't know. You've learned enough on this build to write a book. Well done.

    You win some you lose some, this is a sweet build, it’s unique, not some cookie cutter jeep. You’re close bud keep up the good work.

    Right on man. What a beast and an incredible adventure! Now just to solve that transmission issue.

    Hey! Just a transmission now. I can't imagine it being anything else. Been following for a very long time. This is so exciting

    Thanks for the update, you got to expect some issues with a one off build this ambitious.

    Such a cool build so glad you're driving it finally

      Try checking your diffs I thought my trans was going but turned out to be my pinion bearing made horrible noises while coasting but sounded normal on the throttle

      @@BuildSomethingAuto do you think this could be replicated on a 3rd gen explorer?

    • @BuildSomethingAuto
      @BuildSomethingAuto  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@106206 Anything is possible with enough work. In some ways a third gen would be easier because there's much more engine bay space than on a first gen (first gens never even came with a V8). However it's worth noting the engine choice made this a full build it wasn't just a simple engine swap. I boxed the frame, made a custom transmission tunnel, added 3/4 ton axles to support the weight, and even had to stretch the fenders to fit the radiator and intercooler.
      Something that would be much easier due to their size would be a mercedes OM606 diesel, or even a VW TDI.
      Once it's done I'll make a video that breaks down exactly how much work went into it!

    Yay.. omg on the wasp nest. Guess you can put the fuel heater back in. The manual trans will be easy by comparison.. minus hefting out and back in.

    I just stumbled in here, I have a 98 explorer. What you've done is unreal. I'm going to be watching every one of your videos after my political science papers are done. I have many questions, some of which are more directed at, how do I do what you do? Anyways this thing is sick. I love watch wes work style of mechanical intuition, and this channel is exactly up that alley

      Thank you! In my opinion the most important things are to never stop learning, and to just get out there and try it. Most things are only hard because they take a lot of elbow grease, not because theyre exceptionally difficult to figure out once you have it in front of you. There are some exceptions of course 😅. 👍

    NOT a stupid build. TTB's are awesome. Cummins is awesome. And this build/project is awesome! So glad you figured out the fueling issue. I've been wondering about that. The Explorer looks so damn cool driving around. Can't wait till you solve the gear noise and do some serious off-roading!

    You’re just that much closer than a reliable ride and that’s what makes this so fun to watch

    Awesome work, that thing rides amazing! Can't wait to see what happens next, will you rebuild the transmission yourself? Will you buy another transmission? Either way, I need to do one of those things on my bronco. Keep up the great work, cheers!

      Probably rebuild, new transmissions are expensive 😂

    Can I get some dimensions on the brackets you moved on the axle pivot point for the d50? I’m wanting to do this same swap and I like how you did it. I would love more instructions and dimensions on how you did it.

    • @BuildSomethingAuto
      @BuildSomethingAuto  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately I dont really have good dimensions, i just mocked it up and put stuff where it would fit. I used the dana 50 pivots. I had to cut up the explorer crossmember quite a bit to make it work, on the rear in the passenger side, and front on the driver side. Then I had to weld in the pivots and add a bunch of bracing.
      If I were to do it again I wouldnt do it the way I did it, id just steal the whole engine crossmember from the F250. That way your pivot positions and everything are perfect, youd just need to center it under the car. Theres 4 or so massive rivets that hold the crossmember to the truck and my upull didnt let me bring cutting tools otherwise thats what I would have done from the start. Either a torch, or a cutoff wheel and a punch, would be all youd need to rob the crossmember.
      That would be much simpler.

    Your bearings in your transmission are bad and going to eat up the shaft and gears

    • @BuildSomethingAuto
      @BuildSomethingAuto  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I ended up rebuilding the transmission in the next video:
      th-cam.com/video/xma_BohVeww/w-d-xo.html
      The only obvious issue was the 5th gear nut backed off and the gear started to shear the output shaft splines and move around, a known issue on these transmissions. I upgraded the mainshaft and did a full rebuild, a bunch of work but it's good to know the transmission should be bullet proof now!
