A Beginners Guide to Scouting

- We finally advanced a day in our beginner's example save for Football Manager, and we had to in order to sign our scouting staff. The next thing you need to set in FM in order to go along in your journey. Scouting is also one of the most important, if you don’t handle it directly you will be playing Football Manager with one hand tied behind your back. The staff is so bad at it that you might be playing with both hands tied behind your back with FM making you use your mouth to move the mouse. Something like that.
This beginner’s guide covers how to assess scouts and where you might want to send them. We also talk about the best spots in FM to scout and when to get these scouts out and about or not. The nationality, languages spoken, adaptability, and determination can all change how a scout should be used. You even need one with tactical knowledge for a special purpose but I explain that in the video. See you there!

Been playing this game since fm11 never thought to check languages spoken for scouts. Amazing how ‘beginner guides’ can still help people who’ve been playing for so long.

While I'm not a beginner of FM, been playing since FM11, I've been watching through this series as I find even experienced players can still find and learn things that they maybe aren't doing or doing well.
Scouting is one such area for me. I've never taken control of my scouting and it's an area that I mostly avoid. Watching this video in particular I find really helpful and has motivated me to take more control of my own scouting. Hopefully it makes a significant difference to the reports I'm getting and the signings I make.

It's an area I've avoided because of how tedious it is sometimes lol. Like if you wanted to play an easier big club save, like Manchester Utd, they have 30 scouts! Have fun manually assigning all of them :S

Hey Zealand. I watch almost all of your videos and though i probably could consider myself a veteran at this point i still find your content informative, funny and useful. Something ive noticed this year which can be extremely helpful is going to your general manager if available. And ask him for specific positions to sign. Apparently this guy knows about players outside your scouting range and players your scouts missed due to being terrible. This is especially useful managing lower league club. As he can find players for cheap, out of contract etc. In countries you're not even allowed to scout in due to board limitations. Keep up the excellent 💪
Thanks Zealand, these videos really keep my faith in contunuing to play this. Just yesterday I spent half my day trying to scout, but after watching this video, I havo to stay, I might as well counted grass outside because it would've had the same effect on my results but at least I would've been outside.
I am glad that I have to take a break from FM until monday, because hopefully by then you will have uploaded even more beginner's guide before I waste my time trying to headbutt the system until it works.

Still worth scouting those regions of you don't have any of those teams or players loading or better to focus on the loaded leagues?
@@R1chking Its more important what your knowledge of the region is. If you scout a region with 100% knowledge you will find all of the relevant players even without the leagues loaded. If you only have 30% knowledge even in a league you have loaded you will only find about one third of those players.

Zealand, in this video you mentioned keeping one (good) scout available (no assignment) so that he could concentrate on scouting individual players. Does not having an assignment let them scout *more* individual players at the same time or does it increase the quality of their scouting, or what?

Keep meaning to ask so here i go, dose high ambition relate to the likelihood of a forward scoring more goals with a bigger goal bonus clause? I'm sure I'm missing something unlocking some players who should be a lot better and I'm wondering if it cuz I'm a tight bugger and screw my players in this area

I'm at Leeds and have the same scouts in all the major regions for over a year and they are barely able to find any players. Their scouting knowledge of the regions has barely improved, even though all the scouts have pretty high adaptability (15+). Any advice on what I might be doing wrong?
If I send a scout manager on a country that I haven't check on the very beginning (before you choose your team) as playable or even as "view only" ,is it useless? Or is it useful? Thanks in advance.

Should you set one scout to cover multiple regions, and that way be able to cover the whole world? Or is it better to scout the most important regions and leave the other ones untouched?

I think you need to assign a guy a shirt number and it'll go away. If not, I'm not sure
I edit my Scouts name, so Nuno Alves would be Alves (16/16P/14Ad PorSloBra) or whatever comes closes to fitting. That way when I make an assignment, and I'm looking for the best scout, if I don't have one with the best knowledge of the country available, I can get the best scout available without having to search.

wouldnt spain, france and portugal etc fall under western europe? because central europe is mostly considered to be around germany, hungary and romania
He is listing all regions at 17:40 and you can see that Spain etc. is in central Europe (at least in fm)
And he ist referring to fm's listing. I think he would never consider Spain and Portugal to be in Central Europe

Lucky you, my team in the highest polish league allows me maximum 1k wage for a staff and like 5k for a player
Man, I just started watching this series and I like it. I started as Dinamo like you did. However, when I got to recruiting my staff all of the people I tried to offer a contract to either:
a. Didn't want to move away from home (waaaahhh),
2. Thought Dinamo were not their type of club or
III. Thought working in the Croatia First League was below them.
Everybody had an excuse. I spent an hour looking for potential staff members in the staff search and couldn't find ANYBODY. What a waste of time. I've watched enough streams to know that this game can be great but when stuff happens like what just happened to me, that's when people just hit 'Uninstall' and move on.
This must have been a bug because I started a new game with the same parameters and I was able to recruit a full staff. Only an hour of my life gone which I'll never get back. Not the first time....

Why are my scouts never coming back with any reports from south america?
Any time I find someone with scout stats that good, they want like 80k p/a minimum, usually more! You’re signing that guy at 26k????

why would you want the scouted ability to be lower if your a really big club, surely its the other way round?
The ability refers to stars, stars are relative to your current squad, so if you're already one of the best clubs in the world, 3 star players are actually pretty good.
If you're at a small/medium club, you will want to look for 4+ stars because these are the players that will allow you to take your squad to a next level

perfect example you say to check the language that he speaks while we see a your fur burger desperately trying to escape from the depths of your shirt then immediately cut to a zoomed in shot of languages that the scout speaks. um ok well where the hell does it say that? how do i find what language my scout speaks? i can tell the difference between a blue shirt and a trapped fur burger but i cannot find where im supposed to click to see these languages
in case anybody is interested and didn't quite pick it up. it in fact is not trapped in an axe body spray covered tangle of matted hair trapped under a replica jersey. it is under the overview drop down in information

I hate how you can't scout by STATS unless you leave it to the Computer.
You can still scout using stats, but you would have to go the individual league and look at the league leaders in different stats. For example good strikers are typically the top of their respective league or near the top for goals.
@@theguy1103 Well I hope next year they will implement Scout by Stats as assignment for Analysts.
You can use screenflow for this. For example in my save once a month the player detailed screen of the UEFA Youth League pops up and you can scout the top scorers etc.
It is a bit fiddly but you don't have to click on the leagues individually...
