Halfway through this video I started poking away at my Digitone. Next thing I knew it was 2 hours later and I was lost in a reverb-drenched land of plinky FM ambient. Thanks for another fabulous video!

Thanks for being awesome and sharing. Your videos have really inspired me to make music again. I gave up on music in the 90s, even though I was signed to various major labels, the industry was very cut throat back then and I walked away. Years later, your videos have reminded me about the joy of making music again. I’m thinking of buying the op-1 but I keep holding out to see if I can find something just as good or better. Something just as capable, dawless. Would love to see you make tracks with the elektron.

Cool techniques, dude. Followed a very similar approach after watching Osc Sink's video on the generative patches with the NDLR. Definitely got some real mileage out of that. The Mod slots are particularly useful for modulating the Arp clock division and note position within the scale. Lots of delay and reverb for the icing and cherry on top of the ambient cake. Still working on getting a decent poly synth to help round out the pad parts.

I find very interesting how you and Oscillator Sink came to 2 different results applying the same idea with different principles.
He programs the notes and patterns on the sequencer to create big drones and soundscapes, you use the arp to do more rythmic blip blopish stuff.
    Both produce beautiful contemplative music.
Can't wait to try mixing the two techniques!

Do you have a video where you give tips on creating/tweaking drum sounds on the Digitone? The envelope and filters ar incredibly sensitive on the Digitone which is a sound designer's dream but for amateur like me puts me down many rabbit holes. My jam session last night turned to an hour tweaking one snare but that hour taught me a lot.

Thanks a lot for this soothing, inspiring and educative video. To me it really is filled with beauty, sincerity and sense of concision, without compromising the achievement of a magical track, that you eventually let us enjoying for a while. THANK YOU !
I'm a multi instrumentist though I'm very new to the keyboard world, my first instrument being the trumpet.
I'm more and more convinced that the digitone could help me to create organic pads, chord progression, arpeggios and beats, in a fluid workflow together with my rc505.
I have 2 questions, in case you could care for giving your insight, i would really appreciate !
    1. I can't choose between getting a Digitone Keys or the original Digitone with a midi keyboard would do the job ?
With the Keys version, would it be easier to deal with arpeggio-based soundscaping like you generously made here in this video ? Knowing Elektron added a "hold button" for each of the 4 tracks, could i easily use a "hold" feature with an external midi keyboard ?
    2. Can i plug a mic with my trumpet directly in the digitone ? or does it require a pre-amp / DI ?
Thanks a lot, i wish you a joyful, serene, peaceful and fun end of the year !

I think the internet is sorely lacking in resources on developing an intuition about FM synthesis beyond the beginner level. There's plenty of stuff about what FM synthesis "is", but it never goes beyond introducing the basics carriers, modulators, and algorithms. When it comes to sound design, why is one algorithm preferable to another? What is the purpose of feedback/cross-modulation in an algorithm? What is happening to the spectrum/waveform at different ratios? Basically, how does one become more intentional when using FM for sound design?
Thanks for the great videos. Your OP-1 videos inspired me to start making electronic music.

  • @vroenis

This series on the Digitone is amazing, Jeremy, but this clip in particular is great just because the ambient sound is so curiously pleasing & interesting. Reading between the lines (or perhaps the not so subtle hints in your recent videos), it sounds like things are rough for you at the moment. I don't know what you're going thru & I know it's so difficult to have even a little bit of a public presence & to present any kind of performative face when you feel terrible. I just want to thank you so much for still sharing your creativity & music with us, in whatever form you choose to, with whatever regularity. I subbed to your channel a few months ago & you've been a massive inspiration for me to get back into music & expression. No matter what happens, I hope your life works out. Hey Jeremy, if youre still looking for suggestions, id appreciate a video about general workflow when it comes to elektron, and sequencers in general. Ive been used to more ‘analog’ songwriting, and after getting the digitone and an 808, ive had a lot of fun making dope sounding loops, but have always had trouble making more than a few patterns sound cohesive together. Even in this video, ive noticed ideas such as having a long tempo to create variety in the loop etc; TLDR: do you have any cohesive advice when it comes to how you organize your patterns and parts, copy pasting sequences, editing, etc?

Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart :-) just a question: I am experimenting with arpeggio lenghts and by adding empty notes in the arpeggiator but I am not sure about the technical theory behind that. I do understand that an odd lenght give way to non repeating sequences, but how do you choose which notes to remove for example when you have 2 or 3 arpeggios and you don’t want the notes to fight each other too much?

Kinda lost faith in that software a few years ago, when I tried it with the Analog Heat and it failed on me miserably.. like crash and burn with legit smoke, keyboards thrown n stuff.. Have they made it more reliable? Does it work ok on a PC..? ..kinda things, oooor if you've already made that video and I missed it, then I'll just shut up and pls point me to its direction.
