I knew you'll like this song which is different after "Johnny Johnny" (1985) and "Toute Première Fois" (Very First Time) in 1984.
This one is more rock and has also more "handclaps" that's why I knew you'll appreciate. Everybody also advised you too.
And yes it's the well known song of her ranked no.1 for 2 weeks in TOP 50 at the time sold at 680'000 copies (GOLD DISC by SNEP) and she becomes the first artist to land a second No. 1 in the Top 50.The song is often played on the radios and on TV channels too.
It is taken from her second studio album "Femmes D'Aujourd'hui" (Women Of Today). I advise you to take the version of this album (Deluxe Edition) on the platform and too the Special Remix (5'06).

Thanks Dereck to react to Jeanne Mas an iconic Franch artist from the 80's, please react to antoher big hits from her in 1986 with the song "L'Enfant" which was the following single after "En rouge et noir" It is a slow song and you will discover another face of Jeanne Mas with this emotionnal song which talks about all the children confronting to wars in the world and have to survive sometimes on their own when their parents passed away. A very beautiful song and definitely one of my favourites of hers. :)

Was my favorite song for a whole year ^^ ... except i didn't understand the lyrics so well at the time ( difficult ones when you're like 7 ^^).

I agree with you Dereck, overall johnny johnny is the best one, toute premiere fois is probably 2nd but the chorus is not as good as the rest of the song in my opinion... it's the opposite for en rouge et noir, verses are average but the chorus sounds like an anthem !

Red and Black... Those are colors of revolt and anarchy. Jeanne Mas has spanish roots (Mas is a spanish name). Red and black was also a wink to her spanish origins.
BTW, if you want to try "french song" as in "real frenchy" (not "world-pop" style, but lyrics oriented) about "red and black", you might want to try "Leo Ferre", a famous anachist poet/songwriter. Two songs: "Les anarchistes", and his most famous, and sad song: "Avec le temps". But I warn you: no synth in those songs... :)
