Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at a PATREON requested French band INDOCHINE with "3eme Sexe." This official video really does scream 80's but those sounds do too, and Indochine delivers on all levels.

Indochine is not a one hit wonder band, I can assure you, all their songs are really good, in Peru we appreciate Indochine very much for the context in which they came to Peru in 1988, probably in our worst economic and political crisis, and still so the band fell in love with Peru, I was not born yet but I know the history, hopefully reactions to more Indochine songs: D, greetings from Peru

Je ne sais pas si Derek a déjà écouté des chansons comme " dernière chanson " de Francis Cabrel, je ne suis pas particulièrement fan de F.Cabrel, mais j'avoue que ses paroles sont toujours marquantes, notamment dans cette chanson précise. This is literally the oldest French rock band. 40 years of career this year, a huge tour for their 13th album two years ago. And this year, if the corona allows it, a tour of the big stadiums !

In reality, it was the single "3" that became cult in 1986 in France, for its TWO titles: side A, "3e Sexe", side B, "3 Nuits par semaine". No doubt that musically "3 Nuits par semaine" was the favorite of the public in 1986: proof, it is rare that we speak of a B side of a single! but "3e Sexe" remains cult. Because it was the main title and had a video, but above all, it's the text of this song that made a lot of talk about it : it's still considered now as having a social impact in France for the acceptance of homosexuality. However, in 1986, homophobia was the norm in France! this is why this song has become cult, while from a musical point of view, the B side of the single was favorite, more broadcasted on the French radio in that time!
It was the first 45T with 2 hits !!! At the time face B was often a bad song.

They both have still a lot of succès today, have fans from many génération, still Make incredible and huge concert,sing sometime about controversial things. (Sadly, it seems that they Don't like a lot each other. A lot of people are fan of both artist and would like to see them in duo)
A lot of french artist of this Era like to have a "pure and normal " image and don't like doing "spectacular" things like american.(i don't Say that they're Bad) but Mylène and Indochine are different. The Singer, Nicolas sirkis is kinda 60 years and still look young, have great hair and a very *POWERFULL* voice! He sing a lot better than in the 80's!! Now they're more rock oriented.

Hi Dereck, I've been watching a lot of your reactions on different artists and especially french artists and I truly love it ! Indochine is my favorite band in the french music industry, their story is amazing, they were very successful in the 80's and then there was a lot of difficult situations for them in the 90's, lots of ups and downs and right now the band is one of the biggest french stars. They truly have an interesting story. Moreover the band deal with a lot of subjects such as the question of gender, racism, school harassment and so many others. They also often delivers a message of tolerance. Anyway I can go on for hours and write you a big novel haha

Indochine is legendary ! Deffo recommend listening to more of their songs. One of my favourites are "Memoria", "J'ai demander a la lune" and "Little Dolls"

There are so many tracks I like of Indochine, but the one that hits me each time in the heart is Pink Water, duet with Brian Molko of Placebo, from them. First time I heard that song, it was on the day that my grand dad passed away, and the lyrics are really capturing the feelings I had.
Yes, yes! I never thought I could love your channel more, but it's possible! A friend of mine who is also a Mylene fan introduced me to Indochine in the early 2000s. Paradize was my first Indochine album and it's incredible. Every song worth reacting to. But I also love their 80s stuff. L' aventurier live is a must!

Hello Dereck, I discovered your channel recently and love it ! As an Indochine fan, this is my advice : I think you should continue to explore their 1980's music with one of their biggest hit : "L'aventurier", and then try less known songs such as "More" and "Dancetaria" (both from the 90's). Before listening the song that made them big again in 2002 : "J'ai demandé à la Lune" + more recent songs like "Karma Girls". I should add, since I've seen them live almost 10 times, that it could be great to see a video of them in concert --> Live in Hanoï (Vietnam, 2006) or in Stade de France (Paris, 2014). I would end by saying that some of their video clips are great, like "Les tzars", "Savoure le rouge", "College boy"... ;)

It's very interesting to me, being 47 and french, which means I listened to these bands when I was young. I always had a sweet spot for Indochine, even though I'm way more into british bands, and this particular song is one of their greatest. I don't know who you are, but you made some very smart points regarding the music, the lyrics and the meaning of it all, I must admit you blew my mind! 😮 You seem so young and yet you said exactly what had to be said about the song, the band and the general atmosphere around it. Hi Derek, I have been a French Indochine fan for over 20 years, this group, thanks to the lyrics of their songs, allowed me to understand myself better. Hey, I just watched your video and feel super happy to know that american people are interessed in this AMAZING band (I'm a huge fan of them, so that I got them inked on my forearm). I'm french so pardon me if I make some mistakes.This band is for most fans a big part of their life to the extent that the messages they deliver in their songs are so true and helpful for people who are coming through homophobia, harassment (at school or in their daily life) etc. The band has a humongous influence since 1981 and is also the first french band to have performed in the "French Stadium" several times (about 80 000 persons per night). They always take care of their audience by proposing absolutely amazing concerts (check it, the staging of the concerts are more than incredible and fantastic), by offering very affordable prices so that even those who don't have much money can have the chance to see them perfom irl. Moreover, throughout the years, they managed to diversify their musical style and come up with more and more incredible songs until now. Another important thing to know is that they reach an audience that spans 4 generations (from 1 to 100 years old ;p ) which is also unbelievable. There are so many things to say about this band which is celebrating his 40th birthday this year, and I would recommand you to listen to their albums and see how they evolved through the years and how rich are their lyrics and their musical works !!

This was "The Sound" of the early to mid 80s, a little raw.. And then it became more of a "Studioized" sound. That's why early to mid 80s is so easy to identify to the ears. If you listen to early Depeche Mode like "I Just Can't Get Enough" you'll hear a similar element of Rawness..

"Isolé dans un corps presqu'il" is a play on words in French with the term "presqu'île" which literally means in French "almost island" (peninsula).
Whereas "presqu'il" (without "e" at the end and without "^" above the "i") used in the text, literally means "almost he".
Of course "Isolé dans" (isolated in), at the very beginning of the sentence, suddenly, draws a parallel between the castaway on a desert island and the idea of inhabiting a body which doesn't seem to agree with the genre by which the person who lives inside this body, see itself. This was one of the biggest French bands of the 80's. You should listen to "L'aventurier" if you haven't yet, that's one of my favorites from them. Another was their comeback hit "J'ai demandé à la lune" in 2002 (a beautiful ballad).
HEY ! I came across your video being a fan of Indochine. This group was talked about a lot at the time, as being foreigners in view of their politicized lyrics ( here LGBT) ans here we are, 43 years later, Indochine filled with Stadium all over France.

I love this band, Remember going to France many times as a kid and my dad buying loads of albums + singles on Vinyl, Cassette + CD( Or as they sometimes called it in the 80's by full name Compact Disc) :-)
Indochine: are one of my fav bands not just from France, But in general
They have The Cure/The Smiths vibe which I love
+ no Dereck they are not a 1 hit wonder in either hit singles or albums :-)

good choice Dereck, you'll have to do the new version with Christine too. And some songs you cannot miss cause they were huge in the 80's : Desireless "Voyage Voyage". Guesch Patti "Etienne". Vanessa Paradis "Joe le taxi". Caroline Loeb "C'est la ouate" and later Alizée "Moi Lolita", aMylène Farmer and Laurent Boutonnat production. All those songs hit the foreign charts, you cannot be wrong :)

I saw them in concert in 1985 (it was my first concert) and again 2 years ago ..
this band was made up of Nicola and Stéphane Sirkis (the twins: the singer and the keyboard player) and 2 friends, Dominique Nicolas and Dimitri Bodianski ... unfortunately, stéphane Sirkis died in 1999 ... now, of the original group, he remains only Nicola, but it still amazing

My friend sent me your video and I'm so glad to see someone respond to one of Indochine's songs. I'm a huge fan of their music. They continued making music despite the changes of band members. The singer and other band member, Stéphane Sirkis are brothers (fraternal twins). Unfortunately Stéphane passed away in 1999 at the age of 39 from Hep C. His last conversations with his brother, he told him to continue making music and to not stop the fight to end white nationalism. Stéphane was a huge advocate for human rights and so is Nicola.
I highly suggest Les Tzars, More, College Boy, Alice et June.

Hello Dereck, I'm always stunned by your comments on French music particularly, because you don't speak this language but your comments are always clever and accurate. I recently saw Nicolas Sirkis (the singer) in an interview. He explained that with this song he wanted to give an answer to the people who made remarks and criticised the way he looked. And in 1985 making a song for tolerance about appearance and gender was quite ahead of his time... Thanks for your vidéos !
