Honestly I think Louis' has one of the most successful solo careers - not commercially, but his personal success is unbeaten. Louis never thought he'd be able to have a solo career, now he is on his second world tour (and unlike other artists, his world tour actually covers the world!) with sold out arenas, he has an insanely dedicated fanbase, has launched his own freaking festival the 3rd or 4th year in a row, released a documentary, launched a clothing line and has incredible merch.
He also seems like he has found peace with himself.
When I was a directioner, I have always liked Louis the most but he is even more hard working and striving then I have ever expected!
as for liam, I think he struggles personally a lot and he is kinda missing the creative determination. The truth also is that even back in the 1d times he was the least popular member. But his career flopped more then I expected, ngl.
Zayn had and still has so much freaking potential. He is ambitious and creative, but his disdain towards the music and live industry kinda slowed down his career. However, zayn has mentioned multiple times that he isn't looking for super stardom anyways, so I think similarly to Louis he is successful in his own way
Zayn also has really bad anxiety which has stopped him from performing over the years, but he is back and is supposed to be going on tour soon

His first album sold over nearly 2 million and Icarus over the years has sold nearly 600,000. That is better than Niall, Liam, and Louis. He has nearly 25m monthly spotify listeners which is more than, Louis, Niall and Liam put together.
Being on the top of the charts in 2024 does not mean crap. Taylor was #1 with over 300,000 units sold in her week. The #2 person sold 31,000. #3 sold 27,000 units. Zayn sells because people listen to him and decide to buy and listen. Louis sells out but his sales are low, his music videos has less than 1 million views and his concert videos has less than 5,000 views.

The One Direction era and all the stuff they went through was actually so insane looking back. Also, the fandom experience was absolutely batshit crazy 🤣 It's honestly pretty incredible that they all more or less came out of it okay and with successful solo careers across the board. And it makes sense when you think about it that the members who didn't necessarily fit the boyband mould managed to find their niche on their own and are thriving. Meanwhile, the person who did fit the boyband stereotype seems to be struggling by himself and can't really carve out his solo identity. Great analysis Alex!

This is why I always say that if the boys were ever to reunite I would be happy and supportive of their decision however they don't need it. Most of them have been able to find their individual sound and if they became a band again then I feel like it would hold them back slightly again unless they decided to continue their solo careers on the side but being in One Direction again would be an exhausting job and will be harder to work around everyones schedule. The person that I feel like does need it the most is Liam - he is lost without them. When he released his first album I was surprised because I knew Liam was an amazing song writer. Im pretty sure after Louis he or Niall probably had the next highest amount of writing credits on songs and I was disappointed to see that he released such mediocre music which just felt fake, ungenuine and somewhat artificial like he was trying to be someone else. I mean for literally his whole life he was trying to be someone he was not first the Bieber like hairstyle, then trying to look like harry, then going solo and making music that's also very similar to Justin Bieber - Which is what I think has contributed to his drinking problem because he does it to numb the pain that he doesn't feel like he's good enough to do it on his own. Even though I know if he put his heart to it he could really create some amazing music but instead rather than trying to learn from his mistakes he decides to talk poorly about his former band mates and talking about their personal relationships which are none of his business.

Liam NEEDS to make a crooning album. Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka, Buble, could all be inspirations. His voice suits that genre so well and he could make such good music in that area
Yes. Liam and Louis were great writing partners in the band but
Liam has really struggled since. I think the drawing and other art he’s done have been good for him. He just hasn’t found his place in the world and unfortunately his substance abuse issues that started in the band have been a real challenge since. ❤

Liam Payne strikes like an insecure person to me, mentally he is not doing good. I feel his bandmates becoming more successful than him definitely ate him from inside though he speaks positive of them. Especially since the band was created around him. His mental health definitely reflects his music, his solo music all together doesn't connect well on the personal level, his other bandmates found the genre that suits them but Liam didn't. His music is something that one would play in the club for fun but not the kind of music you would listen to relax and personal. Liam Payne is the one who still talks about the band reunion and stuff a lot, he is still stuck in the past and is unable to move on from his 1D days while Zayn, Harry, Louis and Niall have all move away and created their own identity.
Zayn who does barely promotes his music is still very much successful. I think Liam Payne needs to focus on his mental health first and needs people that get honest with him.

It is so sad Liam has not so much great music in his solo catalogue. He has such a great voice, when I listen back to their auditions I think he was the best singer then and now it does not show that much in his solo songs.
Liam Payne solo music is missing heart and soul, his music is kinda very generic and doesn't connect well at personal level and it doesn't feel like the music have personal touch of Liam. I am not saying all music has to be gloomy but even his fun musics feels like TH-cam music. Liam Payne's mentally has not move from 1D and its still yet to find a identity of his own.
He needs time to heal, the plastic surgery, the drunk and controversial interviews just shows that needs time to take care of his mental health.

His voice is still beautiful. The shows he did during lockdown will always have a special place in my heart. He really did a lot for the fandom during that time. Niall did as well.
I clicked so fast! Thank you for such a great video. I’m so glad you started with Louis & how well written both of his albums are. He’s known for his lyricism & his songs give you a sense of hope. Louis has really grown into his own & is finally making the music he wants to make. He has such a special relationship with his fans & he knows we are there to support him 💯. I’m so glad you were able to experience that at his concert.
As for the One Direction fandom as a whole, I think the band & it’s fandom are unlike other boy bands as you said. Despite its hiatus, their fans are still very active & continue to grow in numbers. A lot of ppl, including me, found them during lockdown. Directioners welcomed us in like family, answering every question with kindness & providing all the background info you could ever imagine of the band’s history. They also support the members in their solo careers, which has contributed a lot to the characteristics of those individual fandoms. 💙🩵💙

Liam has come a long way, now he’s sober. Lad has a wicked sense of humour and a bloody incredible voice. I don’t believe he’s found himself yet. The other lads will always support him though. ❤
The funny thing with Harry is….I wonder if he’s happy. I think they’ve all struggled with finding partners…except Niall. Harry is where I think he always wanted to be, a famous entertainer, but is he enjoying it. The happiest I’ve seen him in pics was when he went to Niall’s concert with his Mum!

. l would say it is the fact that he has had deal with all these larries & zarry rumours , and the way some fans treat his girlfriends really badly , the hate they receive, and getting photograph everywhere he goes. Harry has always been a private person, doesn't mean he isn't happy .

Aw man I was just out of my One Direction phase and now you're bringing me right back in. I haven't listened to anyone but Harry in a long time but seeing as you said that some of the albums by the others are good… I'll give it a listen again. Pray I don't fall too deep into that phase again 🙏
You should check out Zayn's new album Room Under The Stairs. The album has 15 tracks on it. Zayn wrote 12 out of the 15 songs. Zayn also cc-produced the album alongside Dave Cobb. There's also a Z-Side with 5 additional tracks. Zayn also wrote and produced those five tracks.

saw louis at one of his stadium shows recently and man THAT was really incredible !!! unfortunately liam was right behind me and his dad was taking pictures and videos as if it was his son's show and people went to see him instead of louis.

It's 14 years later of course they changed. Not a Boy Band anymore, but a Man Band now if they were together. All finished with puberty so voices may have changed and obvious physical changes as well. You can't stop mother nature!
I agree about Liam and I am really hoping his success will come. Liam has a great voice. I think you nailed it when you said it's about his identity. Some of his songs are good but he went the pop/r&b route and unfortunately, the music industry is flooded with artists in that genre. It's really hard to stand out. So where the other boy's music has each had a more unique sound and identity, Liam's has been generic in a flooded genre. I get that this is the sound he likes but I think he needs to find a unique sound for himself. Zayn's latest album was not commercially successful but I really liked it and I think it was brave of him to step out and produce an acoustic record unlike anything he's ever done. I'm really happy for Niall and Louis. Harry is a unicorn. He is next level. I think we always knew he was destined for greatness but he's exceeded even the wildest expectations. He's amazing.
Not a One Direction fan per se, but watched some videos after seeing Simon Cowell's podcast interview. Liam seemed to be the glue of the band while on X-Factor. Not sure they would have made it that far without him. He should consider musical theater. He's the only one who seems to have enough rhythm to sing AND dance.
He started as the leader, was talented and still talented but as time went by Harry and Zayn surpassed him massively within the band once they all went solo. Zayn, Harry, Louis and Niall all surpassed him in terms of solo success. The rest of boys found their own creativity, own genre and move away form the big 1D shadow. Liam is still stuck in the middle unable to find his identity.

Yes, Harry was amazing in 'My Policeman'. Zayn has an animated movie coming out in the US on October 11, 2024,
'10 Lives'. He voicing two characters, Kurt and Cameron. Zayn is also the executive music producer overseeing the film's musical creative directions. Zayn also wrote four original tracks for the movie. He sings three out of the four songs. One being a duet with the actress Simone Ashely. I'm so proud of Zayn.

I think the main reason Liam’s solo career flopped is that he doesn’t have the passion for music that the other members had. He didn’t write a single song on his album and tried to be a Justin timberlake wannabe
His team convinced him of that. He’s been doing music since his childhood, music is all he knows. If he doesn’t look like he’s enjoying it or struggling it’s because he’s constantly being attacked and threatened. People are just searching for ways to bully him and his team could care less about him.

A fair summation, I think.
I was not a Directioner but of all the boys, my heart belongs to Louis - he can't, honestly, match Harry in terms of performance, but I prefer his style of music: his concerts are incredibly high energy - he just hits the ground running and never stops, and his relationship with his fans is unique.
Love Harry (what person doesn't?, you'd have to be mad - he's THE performer of his generation), and Niall is also a fun listen - a bit mid-tempo for my tastes, but excellent production.
Something is going horribly wrong with Liam - his bad kidney is just one factor. He should be on tour now and instead he seems lost and it worries his fans. But his Teardrops live version was really good - I'd love to see him do more music like this. Zayn's music never appealed to me until this latest album, but he seems chill and relaxed after his years on the farm and relations with the other guys seem to be improving: Room Under the Stairs is a great album.

I can truly relate to you sir. I only know 1D as 1D, that's it, until I met my gf. She's a massive directioner. Because of her, I also knew all the drama surrounding them, like everything about each one of them.
She invited me to the first even concert I attended in 2021 which was Louis'. And I can agree that his fans are genuine. They were not there because he's 1D, but they were there true fans of him. I appreciated Louis more because of that concert.
We were also at Harry's concert last year, and Niall's earlier this year. So basically all the concerts I attended to were 1D. 😂 Hopefully we can see Zayn cause she wasn't to see him because he left right before they were about to come here.
i think we're all waiting, hoping and praying that Liam finally shows himself and what he's capable of in this new album he's making, as he said he is finally writing for himself and making the kind os music that feels right to him, it was so sad that he had to cancel his LATAM tour due to his medical complications but I'm hoping he'll be back stronger than ever.

As someone who started reading fan-fiction as a 13-year-old because of One Direction and 5SOS (and who still reads and now writes fan fiction as a 25-year-old), I can assure you that fanfics aren't just about celebrities and aren't just self-inserts. A lot of them are about movies, shows and books. Though yeah, there is still a lot of Real Person fanfics out there.
Anyway, even all these years later, I still listen to 1D and the boys their solo stuff a lot. Louis was my favorite when they were still a boyband, but god has Niall grown on me more once he started releasing solo music. Out of all the members, it is his that I listen to the most.

That Logan Paul interview is not an accurate representation of Liam’s personality. Liam is neurodivergent (he has talked about this in interviews before), and if you watch a lot of his interviews, he very clearly masks. That interview was so bad precisely because that isn’t his actual personality. Oh, and Liam was never set up as the leader of 1D. I do think they were probably created at least in part because of him, but Harry was always the frontman. Liam was their vocal strength.
I remember when 1D got put together at the x-factor, Nicole said that Liam could be the leader.
But yeah I agree over time it became very clear that Harry was the frontman. But I love Liams voice and he has such a high range too!

Late Directioner, unfortunately 😢 If only they were not labeled a boy band, but marketed as just a band. I know they all wanted solo careers, but they were magic together. Truly amazing harmonies. “Once in a Lifetime, you were mine.”
A boyband is a vocal group. A normal band is a band with for example with 1 singer, 1 guitar player and 1 drummer and so on..... For me it doesn't really matter if they are called a boyband our normal band. Because there boybands I LOVE and boybands I really HATE. Normal bands have great music I have a less strong feeling by them negative and positive. But because 1D is more a vocal group then a band so the word boyband fits better for them.

Thanks for your entertaining video which basically sums up my own experience with the band members in a humorous way.One day I checked out Harry Styles not even knowing that he had been in One Direction. I have always been very suspicious of boy(or girl) bands in general. To my surprise, I found that I liked most of his songs. During lockdown I discovered Louis Tomlinson and loved his style of music immediately. Last year I saw both Harry and Louis live and enjoyed it a lot. Would I go to a Niall Horan or Zayn gig too? From what I have learned about their music so far, definetely yes. Unfortunately though I also have to agree with you on Liam Payne."Strip that down" is the kind of song on the radio I tend to switch off after a few seconds because I know it won't get any better. Somehow Liam seems to be the little boy lost - the one who hasn't figured out where he wants to go musically. It's a shame because he was a crucial member of the band back then and he still has an excellent voice.

Even without the controversies LP1 is kinda meh, Liam just wrote it for the sake of it. It doesn't have the same impact as other albums from his bandmates because it lacks the personal touch of Liam. Their is a reason Liam have less subscribers and streamers compared to his other bandmates, he needs to recalibrate his solo direction.
