I might make a video covering in more depth my reactions to both these designs on top of reacting to your reactions. To be honest, I absolutely *love* when 5YL aliens have gross and disgusting design elements, it was one of the things that I really loved about the alien designs in the classic series.
As a novice artist myself, I do really appreciate that they're all clearly a distinct style. Not a fan of the lesser emphasis on mechanical elements though, but it's a good tradeoff to have more monstrous, naturalistic designs.
I like the idea of most if not all of his body being covered in this exoskeleton that he naturally grows out and is meant to help him resist the recoil and the violent shaking from his own digging, but that if he was hurt badly enough and the armor was pierced, you would see blood and flesh within, many animals are like this and I feel like it just makes sense for him
@@OlliepopVT The reason armadrillo is so different is because O.R. Ash (the member of the ink tank who I believe designed it) mostly isn’t a fan of aliens that just look like robots (like armadrillos original design)
This video made me realize two things about redesigning Ben 10 aliens. 1. Turning metallic or mechanical aspects of an alien into biomatter doesn't work. It just looks weird and gross. 2. Making it so an alien's face is too animalistic also doesn't work. Granted, it doesn't necessarily need to be super humanoid, but if it looks like you just ripped the face off an ordinary Earth animal and stuck said face on the alien, it doesn't work.
"Grown Vulpinmancer mouth that Ben 10K didn't have either" - I always assumed that was like a homeworld and Null Voider difference and the show was like, always trying to make it obvious.
Ben 10K's version kinda started having that, u can see some cracks like things near his mouth and u know how it might look after a few years after that
Would that imply that every wild Null Void Vulpinmancer we've seen is very, very old? Or at least that Null Void Vulpinmancers gain that trait earlier.
The weirdest decision they made was to put the shield design on NRGs outer forms crotch, and since that design lacks green for the most part and sind red cancels out green, it stands out and my eyes are drawn to his crotch which is not what I want my eyes to rest on
Honestly, I prefer when Lepidopterans have pupils. In the OS, even though I know the Omnitrix symbol is not his eye, I struggle to not see it that way. In Omniverse, they gave him pupils, and it was way easier to focus on his actual eyes. Also, just so I don’t create a tldr post, I’m just going to state my opinion on my favorite alien: Grey Matter. I like 5YL’s overall design, but I think he looks too muscular. I prefer a lankier Grey Matter.
he originally had pupils in the concept art I think, he even had red eyes, u can see that whenever Stinkfly's pic pops up in the Classic intro yeah I agree with your Grey Matter opinion

Funny thing,there was a previous iteration for wildmutt,but i pointed it out on one of Ash's livestreams before he redid it. Not sure if that means 100% that i had an impact or not. Edit: the thing i pointed out to Ash was the lack of a tail for Wildmutt.

I actually have to agree with you about the artsyle, while Classic will always be my favorite, Omniverse is my second favorite. The UAF style only really looks good in the day, because at night the backgrounds are so dark it just looks like the characters are walking on a black void.
They turned my boy bullfrag from Gigachad frog from the swamp, friend and brother of gigachad Shrek, the froggy rizzler and the peak of all frogs, the alpha frog, into a hobo drug dealer who'd sell you crack.
I think the problem with 5YL's redesigns is that they implant way too many small and fine details into the aliens and their suits. On one of the Breakdowns where Way Big appears I think, Kuro talked about how Waybig's "overdesigned" look in OS makes sense since he's gigantic; There's so much area to cover that the seemingly insignificant and nonsensical details work in his favour. Unfortunately, it really does look like they took that same philosophy and plastered it all over the other aliens, which doesn't work. A lot of it either looks like noise and is just downright unpleasant. And the Irony here is that their Waybig redesign is almost the opposite, it looks really simple and the only details are the protruding skin pads and the gills
There's that and also, and I think they even mention this at one point, stuff like this would be an absolute pain for animators to work with on an actual cartoon.
I think a lot of Kuro’s designs are not comic friendly, or rather, they’re the type of thing that if you stop and look at them, a lot of them feel better, but if you see them once you won’t like them as much. Like, a prime example for me is wild vine. I actually like that design, but I went into this video remembering hating it. Because the last time I saw it was relatively brief. Some just straight up don’t work for me- nanomech’e extremely fragile build, The removal of Brainstorm’s constant sneer, etc. but a lot that didn’t before work better for me now that I’ve sat down and stared at them.
Kuro is a really great guy when it comes to writing, making concepts and worldbuilding in general but his visual identity looks verry underdevelop overall.
@KirigiriKirin I don't think his style is confused, its just it feels like it needs more focus with more rules that can have the aliens feeling consistent with one another.
personally, even besides the designs themselves, i hate how puke-coated the colors are, like compare Cannonbolt to the 5YL one and you can tell how mucus-y it looks

For the alien I'd choose to be able to shapeshift between, I'd choose Whampire! This will sound a bit bad/evil but being able to control people sounds very useful gjdsjdjs. As for what I think you'd pick I'm gonna go with Goop! A Tokustar shapeshift honestly sounds near-useless for being so damn big and a Talpaedan sounds just as bad for the same reason but to a lesser degree, as for a Vladat you just don't strike me as a Whampire fan and by process of elimination that leaves Goop! I do think you'd enjoy Goop for the shapeshifting ability of Polymorphs so it isn't entirely based on process of elimination gjkfsjfs

Love armodrillo but I don't work in construction and whampire's mind control could be unethical. Only one I didn't consider at all was the tokustar, no utility outside combat on earth. Maybe you'd go for the vladat due to their wide array of abilities
It's also worth noting that in universe, the Omnitrix appearing anywhere other than the middle of the chest was a glitch in the Prototrix. That glitch was since then patched with the release of the official 1.0 Omnitrix. Meaning, wild mutt having the dial on his forehead is a continuity error. Same with any other randomly placed dials. Don't get me wrong, the dial looks super good there on wild mutt but it is unfortunately a continuity error.
I don't like a lot of the 5YL designs but what i'll feel free to rag on is the fact kuro seems to just hate vibrancy, all of his aliens are desaturated for no apparent reason and I'm not a fan of his Ben Design which often times bleeds into the 5YL Alien designs since some of them resemble him with their facial hair or other traits. I think the source of the issue is that it's almost like he's trying to draw ben 10 in the danny phantom style, like 5YL Ben wouldn't look out of place in danny phantom but it doesn't look like a natural design progression for the ben 10 universe or ben's character.
@@Tari_10_Editz I honestly find that surprising since despite the fact Kuro has stated " Ink tank exists to advertise 5YL " the channel is solely ben 10 focused and maybe once in a blue moon will Danny Phantom get mentioned - I haven't read the fan comic but i'm willing to bet the reason he'd be overpowered in the comic is a substitute for the fact danny's world/characterisation is under represented. With the amount of effort that goes into the ben 10 side I wouldn't be suprised if orginally it was just meant to be a small scale fan-comic about danny & ben having a cross-over and gradually morphed/mutated into a poorly thought out fan sequel to omniverse

All my design opinions Heatblast - The leggings are kind weird, but I don’t mind them I really like the way the fire hair looks. Wildmutt - I like the tail and the outfit/saddle, the helmet feels like it’s pushing it. Diamondhead - You’re right, Diamondhead (reboot included) doesn’t have a bad design, this is no different. The chin texture looks cool XLR8 - I am not that big a fan of the new visor (mainly the color), but overall, still cool. I do like the white stripes on his tail. Grey Matter - I do not like the chin stripe, but otherwise not that bad. (Also weird so the Omnitrix so small in comparison to him) Four Arms - The outfit and hair are sweet. My one issue that the arms spikes aren’t showing. Stinkfly - I feel like the pupils are only where for the sake of continuity (seeing as 10K, Stinkyfly and OV had them too), but overall pretty cool. I like the face stripes and the spikes on him, tho a bit too bulky. Ripjaws - Awesome looking. Breathing tank is a nice addition along the fin “hair”. Upgrade - The purple shine makes is a bit too much and I don’t like the head shape. The rest is closer to Heroes United, which is decent but I prefer the UAF and Classic Mechamorphs. Ghostfreak - I really like the hands, ribs pattern, tail and Omnitrix placement but the rest is ok. Cannonbolt - The teeth and rocky shape of the bumps are cool. Do wish the fur was lighter and 10K’s pants have always been weird to me. Wildvine - I while I like how OV made him a stoner, I hate the face/expression on this version. Also the bottom vines feel off and the outfit looks good. Spitter- I like the texture on him, but I prefer the fins on the original over the ridges Buzzshock - I kinda prefer this over the official designs (a bit). The goggles are cute, the battery symbol is a nice detail and I do like the proportions. Arctiguana - I like they gave him a tail, the face hair is a nice touch and the first spike on his back is a bit too shark-like. Benwolf - I like it sticks closer to the Classic design I do prefer 5yl’s due to the fur detailing. Snare-oh - I like the gold on him and I wish the clothes saturated up by a little bit. Frakenstrike - Hair’s a mixed bag for me, but otherwise, pretty cool. Perk Upchuck - Not a fan of the warts or tongues, but the rest is cool, sticking closer to classic. Murk Upchuck - I like how different and weird his face and lips are. I think I prefer this to official versions. Ditto - I like how cute and cartoony he is. Eye Guy - I hate the hair on him, and chest eye I’m ok with and the webbings are a mixed bag for me. WayBig - Mixed bag for me (still better than UAF design lol). The flesh armor stuff does make him feels more alien which is decent. Swampfire - I prefer this over the OV Blossom form. Nice blend of pre and post blossom elements, I just wish he kept the arm plumes or fingers from OV. Echo Echo- It looks pretty cute with the face and how stubby it is. Humungosaur - Something about the face is off to me. The body itself looks cool with the armor on both versions. Jetray - I do prefer this over UAF Jetray. This has better wing proportion and shape, the outfit is neat and same for the face tendrils. Big Chill - The antenna are a mixed bag, I like how it keeps the fuzz on the OV version on UAF shape and I am not fan of the desaturated colors. Chromastone - Colors are cool and I don’t like the covered up face. Brainstorm - The eyes, head openings and legs are neat. I really don’t like how it has the awkward UAF lower body proportions. The claws are weird the mouth is ok. Spidermonkey - I hate the ears too and I don't like how they kept the OV Wolverine hair. I do like how they kept the OV six eyes and two tails are neat. Goop - Love the color and texture, but I am not sure about the projector being on the arm spike. Overall, I do prefer it over the official designs Alien X - The light blue aura looks pretty, as well as the horns, but the base of the horns overlaying the nose area I don’t like. Nanomech - I kinda prefer this over official Nanomech too. The way the body connects is fun and I like the three arms and legs, which make him feel more unique and insect-like (seeing as the nanochips were already like insects). (BTW this version has an arm that becomes a propeller to fly) Lodestar - The magnet shaped claws, magnetic dust spikes and floating orb are all neat additions. I don’t like the dust spikes on the legs and I wish it had the UAF eyes. Rath - I do think just pants makes more sense for casual clothing (even tho I kinda liked Luchador Rath) and I do like the fur. The colors seem a bit too desaturated for my liking. WaterHazard - Mixing him with Overflow’s a cool idea. I do think the new 5yl design would be better if it had the proportions of the old one. The barnacles and whiskers look cool and I don’t like the newer chest eyes and eyebrow thingies. Ampfibian - I really like the shape and tail (I do wish he still had 6 tentacles) and the mohawk I’m not a fan of but also don’t mind. Also, green blue doesn’t work nearly as well as soft blue. Armadrillo - I hate how it looks like another creature wearing a suit. Not only are the fleshy bits gross, but feels like the suit is just a thing he wears like IronMan as opposed to being a natural part of his body, which is what he’s supposed to be. Terraspin - The helmet is cute, the neck is decent, but I don't like his skin being yellow. NRG - I do prefer this suit over the official versions, with the core, and all the accessories on him. Shape is also better too, but the green in him is a bit much NRG without suit - Can’t decide if this is better or worse than the official veirosn. The body and the detailing on it is awesome, especially the flaming legs. But I really don’t like the face. The eyebrows, Fire antenna and chin hair don’t look good on him. Fasttrack - Automatically better because it’s not as bland. The suit and face patterning are nice and the fluff and face redesign fix the original for me. Chamalien - Original texture and eyes are better by a mile, this is gross. The extra back legs like Randall are a fun addition tho and the shaping does make him feel more slippery. Eatle - I love the design of this version, making him feel more like a beetle with the extra legs and bigger bulkier body. The shine on his shell is frosting on the cake. Another I prefer over official versions. Clockwork - The main thing I like is the detailing on the chest. The face is cute (tho I prefer the :| face of OV), legs look nice, but don’t like the hand shape. Shocksquatch - The mix of HU and OV is cool, but I think it would have been better if the face and hands were only orange when charging up. The big feet are a nice touch and the Omnitrix placement makes me uncomfortable. Jury Rigg - The outfit looks cool, especially with the armband things and goggles. This has a better face shape and proportion but I am unsure of the ears and nose designs Feedback - The collar bone tendrils are fine, but not as fitting for me. Feet are an improvement, the pupil feels off and the rest is the same. Bloxx - I don’t like this because I can’t see him disassembling and reassembling into different constructs (which is the entire point of him, ability wise). The colors are fine. Gravattack - Mostly the same and is overall good, like the lighting shaped crack on his head, but I don’t like the coloration for the core. Crashhopper - This one is is mainly minor improvements, nothing notable beyond the spikes Ball Wevill - Kinda interesting with the eye redesign and bigger body, but original is both cuter and better. Also his horn is worse on the 5yl version. Walkatrout - This one I prefer because it has a better fin and outfit than OV. Also he is cuter. Pesky Dust - This one is overall better for me. I like the eyes, mouthless face and dress, but I am not a fan of the sideburns and the original skin tone and hair color was better. I think I like the 5yl version a little bit more Molestache - This guy is already my least favorite alien (ignoring his voice, that’s the one redeeming quality) and this is a slight improvement, like with the eyes and noses, but I still dislike it. The Worst - The jowells are weird but fine. While the underwears were funny, this is a bit more fitting. The lumpiness is nice. Kicked Hawk - I think the OV harness looks a bit better than the tank top, and I don’t like the face/beak of either version. Maybe if he had a proper beak instead of cartoony one and toned down the mohawk, I’d like both versions better. Toepick - I do prefer the proportions on this version better, and the outfit is definite improvement. With that said, the colors and face of OV are better. Astrodactyl - This one was a better outfit but worse (lack of) saturation. The beak and head crest shape are hard to judge from this angle, but I think it is about the same. Also, I know this is a nitpick, but I don’t like how the first bend on each is downward before bending back up again. Feels unnatural. Bullfrag - I am unsure about the warts. I think they would be better they weren’t on his chin. Also, another alien with a better outfit. Atomix - 5yl Atomix looks badass. While I do think he is too skinny, every other major change is an improvement for me. Love the colors, suit design and skeleton underneath. Gutrot - This one is a mixed bag for me. The rocky rotten look to him is both gross in both a good and a bad way. Whampire - I feel like they went too far with the half bat look, especially with the fur on him. I would’ve preferred the vampire trope of him turning into a normal bat. Designs I prefer the 5yl version of: Buzzshock Benwolf Murk Upchuck Blossom Swampfire (compared to OV blossom) Jetray Goop Nanomech NRG (in suit) Fasttrack Eatle Crashopper Walkatrout Peskydust Molestache Toepick (with helmet) Atomix
I love all of these designs personally, the changes don't bother me much at all, but I can really see why they don't vibe with everyone. Seeing different takes and opinions is interesting and refreshing after living in your bubble! My takes on some of them for different takes (on what I feel some should look like and fun (prepare for a long ass essay)): Upgrade: I was thrown off at first bc I'm more used to a gooey build for my boi, but I came to really love the 5YL design for Upgrade a lot. Purple took time to get used to, but otherwise even if I'm biased towards my favorite alien, it's cool for me. Wildvine: Honestly I'm not sold on him having hair, period; as someone who likes Wildvine it's cool seeing the wheaty texture of him, but I'm personally not sold as much. Still slaps. Echo Echo: This is another one of my favorites that took time getting used to, but I've also come around to love it. His body shape is much more different than in the show but I don't really mind. I love screamo man either way even in OV. Chromastone: If I'm being real here... I would not redesign Chromastone at all, personally. Him having a uniform, sure. But it didn't make sense to me that Chromastone looks vastly different from his UA appearance. In fact, I just imagine Chromastone as Sugilite's appearance with slightly more Ben features and tweaks, and that's it. Him having multi-color geodes is cool, and I still love the design, but in my head it doesn't make sense that the Crystalsapien transformation looks way off from the only other Crystalsapien in the universe. Armodrillo: Now I LOVE this one. Only because while I love his original robotic look, he's way different and still tells me it's Armodrillo. (Which was the core point from Kuro I believe; he doesn't really mind what people think of his designs as long as they recognize it's that alien) I would make him look more bio-mechanical than straight up rodent in a suit, but I still like this. (Also fun fact: 5YL Jetray and Armodrillo aren't even Kuro's designs, they're Insane-Mane's with just a few changes to fit the comic better. I believe as of now Alex's design for Jetray is the same but Armodrillo has been changed a bit.) NRG: I'm actually the reverse on this one; the suit is fine to me except I can't stand green on it (or the overuse of green on his suit for my liking), but the true form is badass. It really feels like NRG's living off of radiation that he needs but nearly died because of it giving him that skeletal look. I love the shoulder pods on his suit though. Shocksquatch; While I love the mix of his HU and OV look, I always like the artist Elmike9's direction of him, where both HU and OV Shocksquatch is a similar case of Upchuck and they're both based on Yetis living in either the north or south part of their planet, giving them their vastly different looks and feels. Eatle: I love this one simply bc I'm in the main camp that OV Eatle is better than UA (Even that is fine), and it looks as if he completed his growth stage. It's gross, but like many people, what I love about 5YL's designs is their realism; if they existed IRL, they probably would look like that. Feedback: For some reason this speaks chad vibes to me. I love the horns since having nothing on his head would feel weird and I just like how they look. His collarbone tendrils look so good to me too. Maybe I love Feedback too much but he's always been a badass in OV and 5YL to me. Bloxx: Nooooooooowwwww, I... am 90% fine with this, I simply don't understand why his powers changed. Sure I love it but I love the shapeshifting aspect of Bloxx more. If you take out the plastic and LEGO aspect of him I would like it more but all I'd not change is his powers. Otherwise I'm fine with this. Ball Weevil: What I find funny about Kiri's take on her ideal Ball Weevil is him being cute and I love the 5YL one simply because I imagine it's his species way of going through puberty; this is totally a headcanon, but why I think Ball Weevil looks ugly is because as he grows more, like the generic acne and hair growth spurt for humans during adolescence Ball Weevil starts looking super gross. I mean, if you make an Ultimate Ball Weevil he's not going to remain cute, would he? That's why I love 5YL BW and also find that theory really funny. Mole-Stache: I vibed with Jerry, not him; since he's my least favorite alien in the franchise, I like the 5YL simply bc I don't imagine his hair shapeshifting (which I really didn't like), but still retain that prehensility and how he can glide by rotating his mustache. The beard makes sense if 16 y/o Mole-Stache was going to have a stache, and 21 y/o would have a dwarf beard since Ben normally does have a very scraggly one. Toepick: Asking for real here: Is that actually how Toepick's face looks???? I swear I've looked around a lot and that's the first time I'm seeing OV Toepick's face. Well I guess personal attachment will play a factor here, but I really like how gross his face looks in 5YL, and he probably would look like that IRL. (Another fun fact, his connection to Opticoids was based off of the dumb joke in Something Zombozo This Way Comes where Ben is Eye Guy, bumps the Omnitrix into a wall & turns into Toepick, and Ash tried to make as much sense as possibly out of that connection.) Atomix: I don't care if people prefer the Superman build of him, but why does he _need_ to have that build? Like realistically, I mean? Something I always wondered. 5YL looks cooler to me and I love his nuclear energy texture a lot. and that's all I wanted to talk about. thnx for wasting your time here lol, hope y'all have a good day

I think the problem most people have with aliens like Fasttrack, Eatle etc is that they don't look like lifeforms and more like people using costumes. I personally love the way people draw them more organic (I'm a bitch to the OV design of Eatle), it shows how it isn't Ben becoming a Power Ranger or smth

Im actually curious, do the different colored aliens of Ben's transformations (the blue Tetramand guy and the two Wildmutt guys from the one poll) count as being different enough (see Upchuck) and therefore could be scanned?
In the case of the Tetramand, Kolar is blue cuz he has a different skin tone. He's the same species, just a different race The two Vulpimancers are Mutants and therefore unsuitable for the Omnitrix
Murk and Perk Upchucks actually have different powers if u don't count the wiki and only see the shows, like Perk has multiple tongues while Murk only has one
My take on their Way Big is that it looks pretty cool… from the waist up. I don’t know, it’s kinda jarring that the torso and head are so intricate and the legs and feet are just a bland undetailed white.
I mean bigchill Omniverse try to be the big chest like a moth if one thing I want to fix Omniverse design give big chill fuzzy fur to look more like the moth
i like cannonbolt's design except for where the omnitrix is located also is it just me with the way it's positioned or does the claws on his right hand loos stubbier then on his left(which look sharper)?
The main thing I think should be considered is that these are all aliens from an older version of Ben. With that being said, Upgrade, Buzzshock, and Ditto are designs that I like In a vacuum, but I don’t think they fit because they actually look like a younger version of their species. On the other end of the spectrum, Chromostone, Loadstar, and Molestache are have designs that I wouldn’t want to be the default look of the alien, but they’d all be cool in an episode with Ben 10,000 Also, Kuro’s version of Water Hazard reminds me of Gravattack, which is a comparison I didn’t think I’d make.
I really like unsuited NRG because of the new lore he was given. Since he’s from another galaxy, NRG’s planet doesn’t have any lore, so they gave the species a backstory and also tied it into Atomix by making his species Prypiatosian-A. Basically they were once one species, but atomic war broke out. Half of the species went underground to protect themselves and developed lead-laced bodies to protect themselves from radiation, eventually allowing them to manipulate it over time (Atomix). The other half stayed above ground and allowed themselves to be heavily mutated, causing them to become nuclear energy and require the special suits to protect others (NRG). So while Atomix is strong and healthy, NRG has a malnourished, muscleless body to due to radiation. I think that’s really cool
2:30 I think it is actually possible to do diamond Head wrong and that was in uaf. Like they were able to build a model that I think would have been phenomenal. They put him in a hoodie. Like the only crystalline thing about him was his face and arms why was his head not a diamond head but just a diamond face on a rock head? But you're beyond that it's like you have to be deliberately trying to fuck it up to do diamondhead dirty.

For eatle i dont really like it its abit strange how a straight of beetle than show a few sides of metallic body type but still its a little decent but armodrillo i dont like the flesh parts i mostly like how hes a mettalic shell but still this was a good video 👍
Something I noticed is, even despite them complaining about the humanoid designed aliens in the shows, a lot of theirs are a lot more humanoid looking. Stuff like the need to add facial hair (even if the aliens are hairless), the proportions are a lot more clearly shoulders and head. Just stuff like that.

To be honest, I absolutely *love* when 5YL aliens have gross and disgusting design elements, it was one of the things that I really loved about the alien designs in the classic series.
Classic didn't made them over the top gross tho, most of these designs look like they are trying too hard

As a novice artist myself, I do really appreciate that they're all clearly a distinct style. Not a fan of the lesser emphasis on mechanical elements though, but it's a good tradeoff to have more monstrous, naturalistic designs.
If 5yl armadrillo looked like a mechanical animal rather then an animal with mechanical parts then he might’ve worked better

I like the idea of most if not all of his body being covered in this exoskeleton that he naturally grows out and is meant to help him resist the recoil and the violent shaking from his own digging, but that if he was hurt badly enough and the armor was pierced, you would see blood and flesh within, many animals are like this and I feel like it just makes sense for him

This video made me realize two things about redesigning Ben 10 aliens.
1. Turning metallic or mechanical aspects of an alien into biomatter doesn't work. It just looks weird and gross.
2. Making it so an alien's face is too animalistic also doesn't work. Granted, it doesn't necessarily need to be super humanoid, but if it looks like you just ripped the face off an ordinary Earth animal and stuck said face on the alien, it doesn't work.
"Grown Vulpinmancer mouth that Ben 10K didn't have either" - I always assumed that was like a homeworld and Null Voider difference and the show was like, always trying to make it obvious.
Ben 10K's version kinda started having that, u can see some cracks like things near his mouth and u know how it might look after a few years after that

The weirdest decision they made was to put the shield design on NRGs outer forms crotch, and since that design lacks green for the most part and sind red cancels out green, it stands out and my eyes are drawn to his crotch which is not what I want my eyes to rest on

Honestly, I prefer when Lepidopterans have pupils. In the OS, even though I know the Omnitrix symbol is not his eye, I struggle to not see it that way. In Omniverse, they gave him pupils, and it was way easier to focus on his actual eyes.
Also, just so I don’t create a tldr post, I’m just going to state my opinion on my favorite alien: Grey Matter. I like 5YL’s overall design, but I think he looks too muscular. I prefer a lankier Grey Matter.

I actually have to agree with you about the artsyle, while Classic will always be my favorite, Omniverse is my second favorite. The UAF style only really looks good in the day, because at night the backgrounds are so dark it just looks like the characters are walking on a black void.

I think the problem with 5YL's redesigns is that they implant way too many small and fine details into the aliens and their suits. On one of the Breakdowns where Way Big appears I think, Kuro talked about how Waybig's "overdesigned" look in OS makes sense since he's gigantic; There's so much area to cover that the seemingly insignificant and nonsensical details work in his favour. Unfortunately, it really does look like they took that same philosophy and plastered it all over the other aliens, which doesn't work. A lot of it either looks like noise and is just downright unpleasant. And the Irony here is that their Waybig redesign is almost the opposite, it looks really simple and the only details are the protruding skin pads and the gills
There's that and also, and I think they even mention this at one point, stuff like this would be an absolute pain for animators to work with on an actual cartoon.

I think a lot of Kuro’s designs are not comic friendly, or rather, they’re the type of thing that if you stop and look at them, a lot of them feel better, but if you see them once you won’t like them as much.
Like, a prime example for me is wild vine. I actually like that design, but I went into this video remembering hating it. Because the last time I saw it was relatively brief.
Some just straight up don’t work for me- nanomech’e extremely fragile build, The removal of Brainstorm’s constant sneer, etc. but a lot that didn’t before work better for me now that I’ve sat down and stared at them.
I'll have to check them out again! Hopefully they'll grow on me
Kuro is a really great guy when it comes to writing, making concepts and worldbuilding in general but his visual identity looks verry underdevelop overall.

For the alien I'd choose to be able to shapeshift between, I'd choose Whampire! This will sound a bit bad/evil but being able to control people sounds very useful gjdsjdjs. As for what I think you'd pick I'm gonna go with Goop! A Tokustar shapeshift honestly sounds near-useless for being so damn big and a Talpaedan sounds just as bad for the same reason but to a lesser degree, as for a Vladat you just don't strike me as a Whampire fan and by process of elimination that leaves Goop! I do think you'd enjoy Goop for the shapeshifting ability of Polymorphs so it isn't entirely based on process of elimination gjkfsjfs

Love armodrillo but I don't work in construction and whampire's mind control could be unethical. Only one I didn't consider at all was the tokustar, no utility outside combat on earth. Maybe you'd go for the vladat due to their wide array of abilities

It's also worth noting that in universe, the Omnitrix appearing anywhere other than the middle of the chest was a glitch in the Prototrix. That glitch was since then patched with the release of the official 1.0 Omnitrix. Meaning, wild mutt having the dial on his forehead is a continuity error. Same with any other randomly placed dials.
Don't get me wrong, the dial looks super good there on wild mutt but it is unfortunately a continuity error.
That was a retcon, which was undone by omniverse. In omniverse the dials show up in multiple different places depending on the alien
I don't like a lot of the 5YL designs but what i'll feel free to rag on is the fact kuro seems to just hate vibrancy, all of his aliens are desaturated for no apparent reason and I'm not a fan of his Ben Design which often times bleeds into the 5YL Alien designs since some of them resemble him with their facial hair or other traits.
I think the source of the issue is that it's almost like he's trying to draw ben 10 in the danny phantom style, like 5YL Ben wouldn't look out of place in danny phantom but it doesn't look like a natural design progression for the ben 10 universe or ben's character.

@@Tari_10_Editz I honestly find that surprising since despite the fact Kuro has stated " Ink tank exists to advertise 5YL " the channel is solely ben 10 focused and maybe once in a blue moon will Danny Phantom get mentioned - I haven't read the fan comic but i'm willing to bet the reason he'd be overpowered in the comic is a substitute for the fact danny's world/characterisation is under represented.
With the amount of effort that goes into the ben 10 side I wouldn't be suprised if orginally it was just meant to be a small scale fan-comic about danny & ben having a cross-over and gradually morphed/mutated into a poorly thought out fan sequel to omniverse

Heatblast - The leggings are kind weird, but I don’t mind them I really like the way the fire hair looks.
Wildmutt - I like the tail and the outfit/saddle, the helmet feels like it’s pushing it.
Diamondhead - You’re right, Diamondhead (reboot included) doesn’t have a bad design, this is no different. The chin texture looks cool
XLR8 - I am not that big a fan of the new visor (mainly the color), but overall, still cool. I do like the white stripes on his tail.
Grey Matter - I do not like the chin stripe, but otherwise not that bad. (Also weird so the Omnitrix so small in comparison to him)
Four Arms - The outfit and hair are sweet. My one issue that the arms spikes aren’t showing.
Stinkfly - I feel like the pupils are only where for the sake of continuity (seeing as 10K, Stinkyfly and OV had them too), but overall pretty cool. I like the face stripes and the spikes on him, tho a bit too bulky.
Ripjaws - Awesome looking. Breathing tank is a nice addition along the fin “hair”.
Upgrade - The purple shine makes is a bit too much and I don’t like the head shape. The rest is closer to Heroes United, which is decent but I prefer the UAF and Classic Mechamorphs.
Ghostfreak - I really like the hands, ribs pattern, tail and Omnitrix placement but the rest is ok.
Cannonbolt - The teeth and rocky shape of the bumps are cool. Do wish the fur was lighter and 10K’s pants have always been weird to me.
Wildvine - I while I like how OV made him a stoner, I hate the face/expression on this version. Also the bottom vines feel off and the outfit looks good.
Spitter- I like the texture on him, but I prefer the fins on the original over the ridges
Buzzshock - I kinda prefer this over the official designs (a bit). The goggles are cute, the battery symbol is a nice detail and I do like the proportions.
Arctiguana - I like they gave him a tail, the face hair is a nice touch and the first spike on his back is a bit too shark-like.
Benwolf - I like it sticks closer to the Classic design I do prefer 5yl’s due to the fur detailing.
Snare-oh - I like the gold on him and I wish the clothes saturated up by a little bit.
Frakenstrike - Hair’s a mixed bag for me, but otherwise, pretty cool.
Perk Upchuck - Not a fan of the warts or tongues, but the rest is cool, sticking closer to classic.
Murk Upchuck - I like how different and weird his face and lips are. I think I prefer this to official versions.
Ditto - I like how cute and cartoony he is.
Eye Guy - I hate the hair on him, and chest eye I’m ok with and the webbings are a mixed bag for me.
WayBig - Mixed bag for me (still better than UAF design lol). The flesh armor stuff does make him feels more alien which is decent.
Swampfire - I prefer this over the OV Blossom form. Nice blend of pre and post blossom elements, I just wish he kept the arm plumes or fingers from OV.
Echo Echo- It looks pretty cute with the face and how stubby it is.
Humungosaur - Something about the face is off to me. The body itself looks cool with the armor on both versions.
Jetray - I do prefer this over UAF Jetray. This has better wing proportion and shape, the outfit is neat and same for the face tendrils.
Big Chill - The antenna are a mixed bag, I like how it keeps the fuzz on the OV version on UAF shape and I am not fan of the desaturated colors.
Chromastone - Colors are cool and I don’t like the covered up face.
Brainstorm - The eyes, head openings and legs are neat. I really don’t like how it has the awkward UAF lower body proportions. The claws are weird the mouth is ok.
Spidermonkey - I hate the ears too and I don't like how they kept the OV Wolverine hair. I do like how they kept the OV six eyes and two tails are neat.
Goop - Love the color and texture, but I am not sure about the projector being on the arm spike. Overall, I do prefer it over the official designs
Alien X - The light blue aura looks pretty, as well as the horns, but the base of the horns overlaying the nose area I don’t like.
Nanomech - I kinda prefer this over official Nanomech too. The way the body connects is fun and I like the three arms and legs, which make him feel more unique and insect-like (seeing as the nanochips were already like insects). (BTW this version has an arm that becomes a propeller to fly)
Lodestar - The magnet shaped claws, magnetic dust spikes and floating orb are all neat additions. I don’t like the dust spikes on the legs and I wish it had the UAF eyes.
Rath - I do think just pants makes more sense for casual clothing (even tho I kinda liked Luchador Rath) and I do like the fur. The colors seem a bit too desaturated for my liking.
WaterHazard - Mixing him with Overflow’s a cool idea. I do think the new 5yl design would be better if it had the proportions of the old one. The barnacles and whiskers look cool and I don’t like the newer chest eyes and eyebrow thingies.
Ampfibian - I really like the shape and tail (I do wish he still had 6 tentacles) and the mohawk I’m not a fan of but also don’t mind. Also, green blue doesn’t work nearly as well as soft blue.
Armadrillo - I hate how it looks like another creature wearing a suit. Not only are the fleshy bits gross, but feels like the suit is just a thing he wears like IronMan as opposed to being a natural part of his body, which is what he’s supposed to be.
Terraspin - The helmet is cute, the neck is decent, but I don't like his skin being yellow.
NRG - I do prefer this suit over the official versions, with the core, and all the accessories on him. Shape is also better too, but the green in him is a bit much
NRG without suit - Can’t decide if this is better or worse than the official veirosn. The body and the detailing on it is awesome, especially the flaming legs. But I really don’t like the face. The eyebrows, Fire antenna and chin hair don’t look good on him.
Fasttrack - Automatically better because it’s not as bland. The suit and face patterning are nice and the fluff and face redesign fix the original for me.
Chamalien - Original texture and eyes are better by a mile, this is gross. The extra back legs like Randall are a fun addition tho and the shaping does make him feel more slippery.
Eatle - I love the design of this version, making him feel more like a beetle with the extra legs and bigger bulkier body. The shine on his shell is frosting on the cake. Another I prefer over official versions.
Clockwork - The main thing I like is the detailing on the chest. The face is cute (tho I prefer the :| face of OV), legs look nice, but don’t like the hand shape.
Shocksquatch - The mix of HU and OV is cool, but I think it would have been better if the face and hands were only orange when charging up. The big feet are a nice touch and the Omnitrix placement makes me uncomfortable.
Jury Rigg - The outfit looks cool, especially with the armband things and goggles. This has a better face shape and proportion but I am unsure of the ears and nose designs
Feedback - The collar bone tendrils are fine, but not as fitting for me. Feet are an improvement, the pupil feels off and the rest is the same.
Bloxx - I don’t like this because I can’t see him disassembling and reassembling into different constructs (which is the entire point of him, ability wise). The colors are fine.
Gravattack - Mostly the same and is overall good, like the lighting shaped crack on his head, but I don’t like the coloration for the core.
Crashhopper - This one is is mainly minor improvements, nothing notable beyond the spikes
Ball Wevill - Kinda interesting with the eye redesign and bigger body, but original is both cuter and better. Also his horn is worse on the 5yl version.
Walkatrout - This one I prefer because it has a better fin and outfit than OV. Also he is cuter.
Pesky Dust - This one is overall better for me. I like the eyes, mouthless face and dress, but I am not a fan of the sideburns and the original skin tone and hair color was better. I think I like the 5yl version a little bit more
Molestache - This guy is already my least favorite alien (ignoring his voice, that’s the one redeeming quality) and this is a slight improvement, like with the eyes and noses, but I still dislike it.
The Worst - The jowells are weird but fine. While the underwears were funny, this is a bit more fitting. The lumpiness is nice.
Kicked Hawk - I think the OV harness looks a bit better than the tank top, and I don’t like the face/beak of either version. Maybe if he had a proper beak instead of cartoony one and toned down the mohawk, I’d like both versions better.
Toepick - I do prefer the proportions on this version better, and the outfit is definite improvement. With that said, the colors and face of OV are better.
Astrodactyl - This one was a better outfit but worse (lack of) saturation. The beak and head crest shape are hard to judge from this angle, but I think it is about the same. Also, I know this is a nitpick, but I don’t like how the first bend on each is downward before bending back up again. Feels unnatural.
Bullfrag - I am unsure about the warts. I think they would be better they weren’t on his chin. Also, another alien with a better outfit.
Atomix - 5yl Atomix looks badass. While I do think he is too skinny, every other major change is an improvement for me. Love the colors, suit design and skeleton underneath.
Gutrot - This one is a mixed bag for me. The rocky rotten look to him is both gross in both a good and a bad way.
Whampire - I feel like they went too far with the half bat look, especially with the fur on him. I would’ve preferred the vampire trope of him turning into a normal bat.

Would’ve been interesting to see what Kuro had in mind if he didn’t have to work with the collar on Swampfire or as he would put it: “MY BOY”
I love all of these designs personally, the changes don't bother me much at all, but I can really see why they don't vibe with everyone. Seeing different takes and opinions is interesting and refreshing after living in your bubble! My takes on some of them for different takes (on what I feel some should look like and fun (prepare for a long ass essay)):
Upgrade: I was thrown off at first bc I'm more used to a gooey build for my boi, but I came to really love the 5YL design for Upgrade a lot. Purple took time to get used to, but otherwise even if I'm biased towards my favorite alien, it's cool for me.
Wildvine: Honestly I'm not sold on him having hair, period; as someone who likes Wildvine it's cool seeing the wheaty texture of him, but I'm personally not sold as much. Still slaps.
Echo Echo: This is another one of my favorites that took time getting used to, but I've also come around to love it. His body shape is much more different than in the show but I don't really mind. I love screamo man either way even in OV.
Chromastone: If I'm being real here... I would not redesign Chromastone at all, personally. Him having a uniform, sure. But it didn't make sense to me that Chromastone looks vastly different from his UA appearance. In fact, I just imagine Chromastone as Sugilite's appearance with slightly more Ben features and tweaks, and that's it. Him having multi-color geodes is cool, and I still love the design, but in my head it doesn't make sense that the Crystalsapien transformation looks way off from the only other Crystalsapien in the universe.
Armodrillo: Now I LOVE this one. Only because while I love his original robotic look, he's way different and still tells me it's Armodrillo. (Which was the core point from Kuro I believe; he doesn't really mind what people think of his designs as long as they recognize it's that alien) I would make him look more bio-mechanical than straight up rodent in a suit, but I still like this. (Also fun fact: 5YL Jetray and Armodrillo aren't even Kuro's designs, they're Insane-Mane's with just a few changes to fit the comic better. I believe as of now Alex's design for Jetray is the same but Armodrillo has been changed a bit.)
NRG: I'm actually the reverse on this one; the suit is fine to me except I can't stand green on it (or the overuse of green on his suit for my liking), but the true form is badass. It really feels like NRG's living off of radiation that he needs but nearly died because of it giving him that skeletal look. I love the shoulder pods on his suit though.
Shocksquatch; While I love the mix of his HU and OV look, I always like the artist Elmike9's direction of him, where both HU and OV Shocksquatch is a similar case of Upchuck and they're both based on Yetis living in either the north or south part of their planet, giving them their vastly different looks and feels.
Eatle: I love this one simply bc I'm in the main camp that OV Eatle is better than UA (Even that is fine), and it looks as if he completed his growth stage. It's gross, but like many people, what I love about 5YL's designs is their realism; if they existed IRL, they probably would look like that.
Feedback: For some reason this speaks chad vibes to me. I love the horns since having nothing on his head would feel weird and I just like how they look. His collarbone tendrils look so good to me too. Maybe I love Feedback too much but he's always been a badass in OV and 5YL to me.
Bloxx: Nooooooooowwwww, I... am 90% fine with this, I simply don't understand why his powers changed. Sure I love it but I love the shapeshifting aspect of Bloxx more. If you take out the plastic and LEGO aspect of him I would like it more but all I'd not change is his powers. Otherwise I'm fine with this.
Ball Weevil: What I find funny about Kiri's take on her ideal Ball Weevil is him being cute and I love the 5YL one simply because I imagine it's his species way of going through puberty; this is totally a headcanon, but why I think Ball Weevil looks ugly is because as he grows more, like the generic acne and hair growth spurt for humans during adolescence Ball Weevil starts looking super gross. I mean, if you make an Ultimate Ball Weevil he's not going to remain cute, would he? That's why I love 5YL BW and also find that theory really funny.
Mole-Stache: I vibed with Jerry, not him; since he's my least favorite alien in the franchise, I like the 5YL simply bc I don't imagine his hair shapeshifting (which I really didn't like), but still retain that prehensility and how he can glide by rotating his mustache. The beard makes sense if 16 y/o Mole-Stache was going to have a stache, and 21 y/o would have a dwarf beard since Ben normally does have a very scraggly one.
Toepick: Asking for real here: Is that actually how Toepick's face looks???? I swear I've looked around a lot and that's the first time I'm seeing OV Toepick's face. Well I guess personal attachment will play a factor here, but I really like how gross his face looks in 5YL, and he probably would look like that IRL. (Another fun fact, his connection to Opticoids was based off of the dumb joke in Something Zombozo This Way Comes where Ben is Eye Guy, bumps the Omnitrix into a wall & turns into Toepick, and Ash tried to make as much sense as possibly out of that connection.)
Atomix: I don't care if people prefer the Superman build of him, but why does he _need_ to have that build? Like realistically, I mean? Something I always wondered. 5YL looks cooler to me and I love his nuclear energy texture a lot.

I think the problem most people have with aliens like Fasttrack, Eatle etc is that they don't look like lifeforms and more like people using costumes. I personally love the way people draw them more organic (I'm a bitch to the OV design of Eatle), it shows how it isn't Ben becoming a Power Ranger or smth

In the case of the Tetramand, Kolar is blue cuz he has a different skin tone. He's the same species, just a different race

i like cannonbolt's design except for where the omnitrix is located also is it just me with the way it's positioned or does the claws on his right hand loos stubbier then on his left(which look sharper)?
The main thing I think should be considered is that these are all aliens from an older version of Ben.
With that being said, Upgrade, Buzzshock, and Ditto are designs that I like In a vacuum, but I don’t think they fit because they actually look like a younger version of their species.
On the other end of the spectrum, Chromostone, Loadstar, and Molestache are have designs that I wouldn’t want to be the default look of the alien, but they’d all be cool in an episode with Ben 10,000
Also, Kuro’s version of Water Hazard reminds me of Gravattack, which is a comparison I didn’t think I’d make.

I really like unsuited NRG because of the new lore he was given. Since he’s from another galaxy, NRG’s planet doesn’t have any lore, so they gave the species a backstory and also tied it into Atomix by making his species Prypiatosian-A.
Basically they were once one species, but atomic war broke out. Half of the species went underground to protect themselves and developed lead-laced bodies to protect themselves from radiation, eventually allowing them to manipulate it over time (Atomix). The other half stayed above ground and allowed themselves to be heavily mutated, causing them to become nuclear energy and require the special suits to protect others (NRG).
So while Atomix is strong and healthy, NRG has a malnourished, muscleless body to due to radiation. I think that’s really cool

2:30 I think it is actually possible to do diamond Head wrong and that was in uaf. Like they were able to build a model that I think would have been phenomenal. They put him in a hoodie. Like the only crystalline thing about him was his face and arms why was his head not a diamond head but just a diamond face on a rock head? But you're beyond that it's like you have to be deliberately trying to fuck it up to do diamondhead dirty.

Something I noticed is, even despite them complaining about the humanoid designed aliens in the shows, a lot of theirs are a lot more humanoid looking. Stuff like the need to add facial hair (even if the aliens are hairless), the proportions are a lot more clearly shoulders and head. Just stuff like that.
