This your best presentation so far. Great how you both didn't talk over each other or the teasing banter other husband and wife seem to think is entertaining. Now about the boat. I'm not an expert. I will say this though, she's got a broken back. Half the boat was on the pier and the other half hanging off. She's a salvage for a reason.. Great presentation
As background, I have owned boats for the past 35 years straight. My current boat is a Hatteras 53 motoryacht. I do not do repairs, I pay someone to do repairs. Whether or not this boat's cruising days are over for good is going to depend on whether or not the keel is broken. If her keel is broken, the boat is scrap and her best vaue is parting her out and grinding up what's left. If I owned a boat yard, I'd bid on this boat. Assuming it is not, to repair that much bottom damage is going to cost well into the 6-digits. My non-professional but fairly educated guess being north of $250k if the hull repair is done by a yard with a stellar reputation for doing that sort of work, which is the only kind of yard you'd want to use for such a complex fix. Considering her asking price of $600,000 ($599k lol) six months ago, she could be worth bidding on to restore her to her full glory, but that's ONLY IF - you have really deep pockets - you're okay with waiting a year or two or three before she's ready to be splashed again - you don''t mind constantly wiring money during the entire repair process - and you're a little bit crazy. I personally would be a hard pass in this scenario if I were looking for a boat. I did see a comment that could make bidding on this boat plausible on a budget with a surprise added bonus depending upon the bid price and if you're interested in becoming a TH-cam star. If you own or have a familly member who owns a propery big enough for multiple structures, has proper zoning, and it's located in a warmer climate (very few boats are insulated for cold weather), converting her into a really unique cottage might be the way to go. Sell the engines, drives, running gear, AC's and electronics to recoup some or all of the auction money, figure how to make her into a super cute and functional cottage, video the entire thing from bidding to final reveal, and then post those vids over time on TH-cam (hint hint) and I'm pretty sure you will have an instant hit! I for one would definitely subscribe to watch that one-of-a-kind boat refit and I am pretty positive a LOT of other boating fans would too!
If one owned that reputable shop and had some idle employee hands during the cold months, this could be a deal if it can be gotten at the right price. A wood and fiberglass production hull is [relatively] easy work for a shop already set up to do such things. We can make a stronger keel, etc. if it's cost effective. It would be an interesting YT to follow in any event other than salvage. The cottage idea is fine allowing that the boat cannot be moved too far without a barge or an oversize escort if moved over the road (not sure if there's enough structural integrity for an extended trailer ride, either). So, there's that. One person's trash... lol. (just another comment for the yt algo)
If they are built in Gainesville, Florida, I would contact the manufacturer and have someone come down and inspect and provide an estimate to repair. That would be useful information for anyone who wanted to bid on it.
The first boats were GH37 pilot houses. The N series came along afterwards. I had a GH37 for 13 years #3 haul build in 1999. Absolutely fantastic live aboard.
I've been doing this type of work for 30 years. The entire interior needs to come out and the entire hull will need NDI to assess the complete damage scope. I wouldn't touch this one for under $350K as a start.
Agreed. I have been around boats for over 30 years myself... both fibreglass and wooden boats. The cost of fixing this is beyond repair. The general structure is damaged and no matter the fixing up it will always be a danger for water damage and osmoses.
That is an odd but cool boat, says the guy who knows zip about boats. Glad to see Sandy has returned. I like the videos with both of you classy humans! Happy New Year!
$40,000 starting bid is too high for a vessel that old with that type of damage. Well done expert repairs that will remove the salvage status for insurance purposes will cost a lot of money.
Other GH owners should be well pleased to know what that boat went through and didn't sink. From what I seen I don't think it will be all that hard to fix. If you can do the work yourself it wouldn't cost a lot to fix it. It's mostly time, that will get you if you have a pro fix it.
Great liveaboard on the hard somewhere. Sell the Yanmars, dingy, and running gear. Rent a nice lot with a well and septic near the marina and basically turn it into a mobile home with reverse cycle air, 50 amp plug in power and a big generator. My bid $150,000.
47' boat / 70,000 lbs? Wow... I'm not a fan of how it looks but it's awesome inside. Great interior and thorough use of space. Nice boat if someone knows how to fix it right
With hurricane Andrew they had Hatteras and Bertram boats miles from their moorings in parking lots etc. with little damage to the hulls. The fiberglass was that thick and I can attest to that on a 42 foot Hatteras I owned.
The hardest part is working down in confined spaces grinding and cutting the damaged fiberglass. All though those little high speed pneumatic pencil grinders. Can really do some cutting on the delaminated glass and sections that need to be cut out completely. With out making a lot of dust and get into tough spots and little cracks.Still thinking about a tenth of the last asking price would be nice.As long as the stringers aren't cracked or broken then maybe parts yacht.✌️🏝️⛵👾🛐🥂🎉
I seriously hope no one will try to do repairs on this hull and sell it as a safe and seaworthy boat again. General structure is damaged on this and cutting out parts will only do it worse. This is a houseboat at it's best now and there will still be a issue that osmosis will eventually bring it to its closure.
What a boat. I get seasick, so I'm basically interested in a floating condo, and that would be perfect. I wonder if she would make the trip across the Atlantic to Dublin?
I'm in love! I grew up on a special 50' trawler. This boat is cool. Such a shame about the damage. Way above my pay grade for repair. Why don't people know how to protect their boats from storm surge? It's not difficult. Honestly. This boat would be great in the Bahamas. But this is unfortunately done for as far as I can tell.
Looks like it could use a professional fairing crew those big flat panels are kind of wavy . With that nice interior you won't care or notice on the yacht.
Ahhh..the wifey camera-lady with arms that have guns on them! Always a pleasure to see! Side note: you are in the boat industry, do these boats just end up sitting and rotting away or do people try and get them going again? Happy New Year!
Reading these commments i see a lot of nay sayers.. Suggest they look at what Europeans do ... With damaged and salvaged/abandoned boats Sailing Seabird, Serinda , Madds..hes Danish and Hubbs are both rebuilding sailing cats that make this look like a space ship on the launch pad by comparison Hubbs Vlog hes working in on a Hurricane blasted island in the Caribbean. His keels got punched through on one side and a full length crack on the other. His Dutch mate is a race boat and repair laminator .. and his approach is based on years of doing this work for a living ....its based on a detailed technical experience and practical sailing and repair work ... He works fast robust and reinforces wherever he finds weekness ... This is not above the water so function first is his approach.. then minimise the amount of work fairing required above the water by attacking the damage thoroughly. Theres also a couple that had to drag their hull off a reef.
100% I have never built a boat although I worked for "spindrift yachts" for about 6 months in the early 80s and have an idea of what kind of work boats need. Furthermore, I'm a hack reimaginer. I've resurrected so many things people said couldn't be resurrected. Smaller projects, but no less difficult, or less prone to negative comments prior to my project completion. I may sound cocky but I don't think I'm that skilled, just crafty and I'm not a quitter. I see a lot of quitters commenting. Thank god thats the status quo in life or I'd have no successes. :) That blabbering all said, I don't like how the boat looks. I think theres a lot of wasted space. All that room and only two actual cabins. IT looks pregnant. I get it, its a trawler... not attractive though. So because of that, I'm not interested. I still think someone thats motivated, and crafty that doesn't think what I think could redo this baby. In case anyone wants to bad mouth my optimistic ideas.... I've made over 600 pairs of custom speedskating boots that have carbon shells. Never sewed, and never did carbon laminations till I was talked into doing it, and one month later I was by myself making 4 pairs a week. You think laminating a big boat is harder than a boot that is made around a custom mold that has to not hurt the skaters foot that paid $1500 for it? I think not. I was taught by a boot craftsman friend. A boot for say a person with a size nine foot would weigh about 400 grams. One month after my "teacher" left me to make boots on my own, that same boot was 300 grams. I shaved 1/4 of the weight off without sacrificing strength..... And I'm not very skilled... Just motivated and "crafty". I think anyone or almost anyone with the proper motivation could have done similar things than what I did and I know the same applies here. I work on machinery now and have for 12 years. I have no degrees and I work with engineers with sometimes multiple degrees and they are just like all the negative commenters... No men. Can't tell you how many times I was on wechat late night after a full day on this side of the planet and I ask them if a workaround will work on the $500k printer I serviced. Then just like all the no men on this thread, they say NO. I have 14 engineers on my wechat group. Often I get multiple nos. Then I say, thats funny because I already did it and it most definitely works. Then I get it, "Genius" When I hear that I think no, just not a lazy no man.
Sad but I don’t like her lines looks to be a bit wobbly in a sea way it’s probably just the photo angle. Well it’s name is odd and perhaps she stays in a harbor as a live aboard.
Inside out to repair. But bottom need all replace as I can say but removing all interior where damage is and to what you showing is a lot. So basically you putting a brand new bottom on boat. Is it worth it well if get cheap. Cost can't say but 20to 25 k work
My main concern is if the keel/spine has folded up in the middle which caused the fiberglass to split like that. That would be major surgery. Everything else looks like elbow grease and materials. Seeing the Victron electrical on and working and mounted so low, tells me that the water didn’t get into much. Because of the salvage history, this boat will be forever tainted, deserving or not. 100k is the absolute maximum IF I were interested, but that’s after I’ve spent time thumping on the bottom first.
optimistically they did not freight thie fiberglass daydream with 2 caterpillar 3412s or some crazy size engine like I have seen in the same size realm. Even with it bouncing on backbone, I would notbe surprised if all that was superficial..what you see is what you get. Being that painful just to look at, I'd just dig from the outside...see where it is at.
Excellent video, great presentation my opinion on these salvage boats is it would be best to take them to a trash to energy facility and turn their petroleum-based fiberglass hulls into energy. That energy can be used to start fresh and build a brand-new yacht bigger. better & stronger than the original.
You're doing a fantastic job! Just a quick off-topic question: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
That damage... Maybe doesnt worth repairing at all. That cant be repaired, just on that damaged spot. Needs to be done, from the healthy part ,to damaged part. And it would always be weak spot on a boat. And you cant just repair a surface, need to repair all leyers. It would be costly..
No matter what ever happens to this boat she's still a VERY SEXY LADY ! AT ONE POINT IN HER LIFE SHE WAS DEFINITELY THE QUEEN ! Sad to see something so pretty just wasted ! Can yall post what she went for and MAYBE see about doing fallow up video of her ? ( Asking for a friend lol ) GREAT VIDEO !

Appreciate the compliments
the look on her face when he was like "I'm not an expert, just a boat enthusiast" was pretty priceless though 😂
Wow ..can't get over the room in that boat ....love it
Makes maintenance a pleasure instead of a nightmare
No damage to the hull , this is phoquig wonderful
@@HarborYachtToursI noticed the way the lady emphatically stated “gain 4 inches”, like she was trying to tell the camera guy something

This vessel is not built around a keel but rather heavy stringers and skegs in front of each prop that tie into via a shoe into the rudders.
Nice boat beautiful characteristics love the layout
Thanks for watching

Was thinking the same.
I’m sure they already have, for the orig. owner….

I am not sure which GH37 you owned. But I own hull #12 which translates to hull build #3 as they began numbering with 10. We purchased it in 2004.
Nice video. Nice and interesting boat.

lol you called the forward cabin the vip stateroom so i was eager to see where the primary cabin was and what it looked like

Definitely should disclose that it was a salvage boat if you were reselling it.
Very interesting!
Beautiful boat :).
The next owner will be happy!

Can that be repaired where it’s sitting or would have to transfer somewhere to do the work
Crazy, I have a random picture of this boat in my camera roll from June 2023 as it was passing through Cape May, New Jersey.
That’s funny yeah it def stands out

I looked at this boat pre-Milton. It was for sale for $600k if my memory serves correctly. She is (was) beautiful.
Probably the same one. Not many like it.

You heard wrong regarding the combo washer/dryers. They're the best! Depending on which brand you get of course.
Happy New Year - what is your opinion on Carver boats? Also, like to hear what other people think…..
Check out my recent carver videos

Even though they were trying to sell it, my heart goes out to the owners.
How much is this boat worth if some one was to buy it .....
Where do you find the details of the auction/
Cooper capital the link is in the description
Large sections in the Hull have got to be cut out and replaced.
Glass over ply?
The entire underside need replacing to make it sea worthy.
The GH37 was the original build by the manufacturer.
I'd have it as a live-aboard on land.. it's sad
Deep pockets will be necessary to fix this. It’s a great boat and a salvage would be my only chance.
Same here
The throttles were pegged on the fly bridge. Might be the diesel smell.
A Californian tour would be nice if available.
My main concern is if the keel/spine has folded up in the middle which caused the fiberglass to split like that. That would be major surgery. Everything else looks like elbow grease and materials. “More fun than a perfect boat” 😂 No boat is perfect. You just don’t know it yet.
Anything can be fixed...money and time.
Yep

This vessel is not blocked properly. On the Great Harbour website there is an illustration. For instance there should be a block under the skeg.
Senza fine= Without end.
WELL ITS INSURANCE RIGHTOFF YEAH ,SO WHATS ASKING PRICE ,I AM BOAT BUILDER AND I CAN REPAIR IT OK
Highest bidder
Imagine being in high seas in a flat bottom boat.
Giant boat 150 horsepower???????
Slow and steady
Displacement hull for lakes inland waterways , canals etc , hull design denotes the speed. Even if you put 400 hp in Her Smay make 10 kts
boat needs to be salvaged. hull looks compromised.
It is salvaged
That damage... Maybe doesnt worth repairing at all. That cant be repaired, just on that damaged spot. Needs to be done, from the healthy part ,to damaged part. And it would always be weak spot on a boat. And you cant just repair a surface, need to repair all leyers. It would be costly..
For 600k I'd buy a nordhavn, DeFever or krogen and with stabilizers.
I’d love to, but I don’t have any way of knowing what they sell for. But I’d be interested in doing a follow up video.
To much damage
can't save her. 😔
you may have good taste showing boats but that music leaves a lot tobe desired.
I knew I should’ve went with me singing solo.
😎💪
Salvage , run ........................................ not worth anything other then the deck and hull everything else is trash !
NO NO NO NO NO Walk away bro !!
Yes it can be fixet
You'd want a strong stomach to take that on.
Your boats are made of parts , deck hull maybe hard or soft top anything not glassed in is garbage !
Great
