Claire you appear to have the technique now it is only practice. You cannot make a mistake that we have not made in our journey. Yours is only just beginning. Keep it up.
Claire WOWSERS!! Sorry about your first bowl. Tears welled up in my eyes as you were telling us. This is absolutely stunningly Gorgeous ❤ Are you still doing wood turning. I follow a Canadian guy here .I could watch wood turning videos all day. ❤
WOW! That turned out beautifully, Claire! I’m also thankful that when the first bowl let loose you were only mentally anguished and not physically injured by flying shrapnel. 😉 Please watch those sleeves, though. I can hear my dear departed dad’s voice in my head warning me about my sleeves and long hair around the power tools.... Well done and you’ll get more adept and less nervous with each project. I can hardly wait to see what’s next! Kris P
Thanks so much my lovely xxx Yes the sleeves are definitely a hazard ... I filmed 3 videos prior to seeing the advice but all future videos will have these rolled up and safely out of the way xxx The hair has been up from day one ... xx thank you so much its great advice xx ❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much Rob ... I do want to do more x but with no electrics and heating the time of year makes it hard. By the time I finish my 9-5 its dark. Hopefully soon x
Thank you Scott .. yes I for sure will no more sleeves xx I will roll them up on the next video x I have another video on 12th with l8ng sleeves but they were all filmed together ..... so from then on it will be no more sleeves xxx thanks so much I'll look at that xx
Thanks for your reply to my comment on the use of a glue gun! Much appreciated. This bowl is absolutely beautiful. It’s hard to believe that you’re only just starting out. Keep going... you’ll do wonderful things in the future, I’m convinced.
Thanks so much Sally ... im a sucker for resin so even though I am a beginner I absolutely had to try it 🤣🤣🤣 coudnt resist xxxx and you are very welcome... as it stands I have a 100% reply rate lol dread the day I cant keep up xxxxx
Not too shabby Clair. Very nice looking bowl. Safety tip: Roll cuffs to inside, use rubber bands if necessary to hold them from flopping. Better yet, try not to wear long sleeves while working on the lathe. Will you make a small matching bowl or plate out of the first bowl leftovers?
Thanks so much Valerie xxx Yes sleeves will be rolled up from now on xxx I have one more video to come ..... before the sleeves got rolled .... but they will be rolled from now on xx Yes the other one will be made in to something else not sure what at this stage xx probably a tea light holder xxx
Brilliant!!!! I love how it "turned" out. Haha Pun intended. Seriously though. That's gorgeous!!!🤩🤩🤩 I'm sorry about the first bowl. I'd have been throwing a tantrum had it been me. I'm glad you gave it another go. You have such a steady hand and a great eye for anything art. I love watching the layers of wood come off. Funny how I could watch it all day, but would never have to patience to do it myself. 😄 It's beautiful! Well done! ❤❤❤
Ridges are good, use them. What a magnificent job you made of that Claire. What a clever girl you are.🍲🍲🍲 What are you going to do with the leftover from your previous effort. Waste not want not.
That looks awesome, I guess everyone learns from the just one more cut. At least you can still make something from the first one or leave it as a reminder. I’m using Keith browns (Rag n bone brown channel) food safe finish
Awesome good job you didnt give up on it we would have missed out big time.. its also cool how you put your mistakes out there to it gives a total newbie like me confidence that mistakes are learning experiences and even talented people mess up now and then👍👍👏👏👏

I know this video was put up a while ago...but I turn a lot of resin, and I use 'negative rake' chisels, and they cut through the resin like butter...no more exploading resin, no more chip out...if you're still up for turning resin, I'd get some. Keep creating.
@@ClairesCraftyCorner yeah, yeah you do...Well get to it, and I look forward to watching your next one. I have just started turning again too after a 12 month hiatus, and I find it so relaxing, and I love creating something new everytime. @@ClairesCraftyCorner Yes, that certainly helps a lot with a quality finish, and no nasty little voids and bubbles for chisels to catch on when you're turning it.
Definitely worth giving it a 2nd go its fab! Would you be able to use uv resen to fill the tiny holes? Asking as I demoulded a few bits today that have tiny holes too & wondered if that would work instead of a top coat? Not used uv before & not sure if I'd have to try & mix the same colour to fill the hole or if a bit of clear would work?
Heyyy Josie ... I think if you arebquick enough with the UV and brush it on fast ... that should work perfectly .. xx For this bowl ... I think I could actually coat the whole bowl in resin using my hand and just rub it in .... but I wouldn't use UV for this xxx
Love that single accent around the bowl, it really brought the sycamore alive. What did you use to seal the resin into the channel you created? Very nice! Thanks for sharing 😀
I loved both bowls you made but do love the resin idea. I’m just starting to collect stuff for resin work, PPE stuff but my question is what tools did you use. My husband is going on a one day course on the Isle of Wight where he will learn to make a bowel or plate and to use a lathe. What is best mini lathe or standard one. I’m just looking in to research about cost of buying a lathe n tools, he can make them n I hope to resin them. Going to wait until I can do it outside in the fresh air as I’m worried the epoxy fumes will hurt my cats. I feel if I can get info and do research then when he had done it, knowing him he will want one then I will have the knowledge and understanding of getting him one I appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you
