  • as you may know, the real estate market is crazy in hong kong. prices are high as anywhere, and for what you pay you often don't get much. still, having lived in cities notorious for high rent (toronto mainly), it wasn't too much of an adjustment.
    while i don't show all the places i visited, i can tell you that i saw properties in causeway bay, fortress hill, kowloon and more. i was able to knock a bit off the asking price of this particular unit which was a relief. our apartment was originally going for about 10-15% more than the final number we settled on. but because it's a walk-up (no elevator) and had remained empty for a month or so, the landlord was keen to secure a tenant asap.

    I have a little one door fridge like you so my freezer freezes over too. Here's how I defrost it:
    About every 3-4 weeks I empty the fridge contents, slip a plastic table cloth under the fridge to catch water. Use the fridge's plastic fresh vegetable container as a water catcher at the bottom of the fridge then boil water. I fill a small handheld spray bottle (like one would use to spray small houseplants or disperse cooking oil) with the hot water (using a beer stubby around it to protect my hands from the heat) then spray the hot water around the edges of the iceblock. Eventually this will help it separate from the fridge itself and can then pull the iceblock out bit by bit whilst simultaneously dumping the excess water out in into the sink. Repeat process till done. Takes me about 40 minutes to do it. It's annoying but gets the job done faster than having to switch the fridge off to let the block melt naturally which takes hours! Hope this tip helps!

      It's not easy, you're 100% right. I'm also glad I could get one without paying a fortune!

      I've since moved but it was 8k HKD (about 1k USD). Security deposit is usually 2 months' rent!

    Electricity and water charges included in monthly rent?

    • @tenjifield
      @tenjifield  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, those are separate! But month to month I'd pay about 4,400 on average.
