In-Depth Nissan Ariya Review (Platinum+ e4orce Electric SUV)

  • Over 90% of car buying Americans have chosen internal combustion powered vehicles so far in 2023. Not everyone is ready to buy a radical EV through an app. Ease of use along with local sales and service are high on the list of priorities for many drivers and that presents some opportunity for legacy brands like Nissan to satisfy the general public. Can they do it with the Ariya?
In 2023, Tesla handily dominates the American mid-sized electric 5-seat CUV/SUV segment with their Model Y, but it will take a wide variety of EVs to suit every driver. Join Miss GoElectric to discover the ways in which Nissan's top-of-the-line AWD Ariya EV bests the competition and the areas in which Nissan has some catching up to do.
This review was filmed on April 8th well before the Platinum+ e4orce trim level was available to the public. The review was published on July 25th with trim in stock at dealerships throughout the nation. It includes information about how the Ariya's upcoming Tesla's Supercharger network support as well as how government incentives impact its ability to compete.
Tesla's Model Y offers many unique features, and Miss GoElectric understands that, since she daily drives a 2022 Long Range Dual Motor. In this review she'll cover many Ariya Platinum+ features which some car buyers might be surprised to learn are not available in any Model Y at the time of publishing. Some of those feature include:
    Hands-Off driving
    Head Up Display
    Driver Instrument Cluster
    Active Noise Cancellation
    Optional Genuine Nappa Leather
    Ventilated Front Seats
    WiFi Hotspot Functionality
    "Hey Nissan" hands-free voice control
    Android Auto / Apple CarPlay
    Amazon Alexa Built-In
    Satellite Radio (XM)
Winter Mode (ability to disable regenerative braking)
    Passenger Seat Memory
    Sunroof Which Opens
    Overhead 360 Camera for Parking
Automatic Parking Using Cameras and Ultrasonic Sensors
    Hands Free Foot Activated Liftgate
Eye Tracking and Capacitive Steering Wheel Sensor
Intelligent Rear View Mirror Camera Viewing
Of course, there are areas in which the Ariya does not fare well against competitors. Watch this review to learn everything you ever wanted to know about the 2023 Nissan Ariya Platinum+ e4orce (all wheel drive) electric vehicle.

Wow! That last reviewer read my mind… Excellent, informative, no nonsense review and I appreciate your knowledge and experience. We have been driving two Hondas for decades; Accords, Civics, and recently the CRV and Fit. I traded the Fit for the Chevy Bolt EUV and we Love it But I want to trade the CRV Hybrid for something more to its size and the Ariya might be it. My test drive yesterday and your video might be the deciding factors. The Ariya is perfect. Solid, stable, quick, quiet and smooth as silk. Everything about an EV in a sleek, stylish frame. You answered so many questions; the battery warranty of 8 years and no history of fires. That fire thing scared us at first but I think GM solved it but it lingers a bit. We love modern but don’t want it to be too space shippy. I got used to one pedal driving quickly but I’ll have to remember to use the brakes in the Ariya and I’m not sure I understand the physics of the e-pedal. You used the pro pilot system. I have not tried Supercruise. I like all the safety bells and whistles but I’m not ready for self driving. Your demo of self parking however was pretty amazing. All of this come down to Does my wife like it??? Again, think your video might help as well as a test drive. Thanks for doing such a great video with no music and no nonsense headlines. I’m turning to TH-cam to make big decisions and truth is the best sales pitch. Thanks Again!!!

      Thank you, Pete.😊
I am glad the review was helpful for you. The Ariya is a great balance of having a lot of modern tech without being intrusive. The goal here is always to provide an honest view of what a vehicle does well and doesn't, that realistically impacts the buyer, so I appreciate you sharing your experience.
Please keep me posted if you end up purchasing & how you wife likes the vehicle if/when she drives it! 🤓 Feel free to comment again if you have any other questions 😊
Thanks for watching and commenting! 😊

You’re welcome and thank you for responding. This is truly a new age of communication. Yes, my goal was to drive as many EV’s as possible because that’s really the fun and freedom of shopping a car, we’ve been so programmed to just trading in the Hondas that the Thrill of buying was pretty much lost BUT we loved the Hondas. But now the EV is a whole new ballgame and I’m in! To me everything about the EV driving experience is Better than ICE and I’ll never go back But there is that range factor on road trips. The only downside of this transition is the EV charging infrastructure and it keeps getting better. 99.9% or our driving is within 50 miles, we charge on 240 at home so I don’t miss gas stations at all. But when we go to Charlotte about 100 miles, I would want to charge up while there. Our Hyatt has a charge station and I think this will be part of the wave of the future. I could tell in yesterday’s drive that the Ariya would be a great replacement for our 21 CRV Hybrid so I hope my wife will take a test drive to prove it to herself. She doesn’t want to be in a space ship even if she’s not driving and she is preconceived about Nissan but, like you point out, Nissan has a great track record with EV’s starting with the leaf and talked to a local owner who loves hers. I have a few months to fool around but ironically I just got an email from Honda finance telling me that my lease is almost over and I have three options; turn in, trade in or buy. Carvana has changed the car landscape. They sent me an offer for the CRV that’s about 5k more than my purchase price. Theoretically I could buy mine and sell it to Carvana and use that money to buy the car I want. Or just buy it and hold it for awhile and use it for our longer trips where plugging in could be a challenge. I’m just thinking out loud to you so forgive me. I’ll figure it out but I will ask you, have you had any dealings or opinions about Carvana? What we Don’t’ want is to have strangers coming to the house to “look” at the car. So Carvana might be our ticket. Thanks for listening and thanks for responding. I will figure it out and I’ll let you know. First thing I’m going to do is look up if Nissan dealerships provide charging stations… Thanks Again!

We drive one CCS EV with over 400 miles of range and have no anxiety. In 2024 when most EVs will be able to use the (presently exclusive) Tesla Supercharging network, even sub 300 mile range EVs will be viable for road trips anywhere in the lower 48 states.
We have sold cars to Carvana and recommended it to friends who have done the same. It was very fast and easy. It did not involve any inspection.

I watch tons of car reviews on TH-cam regularly. Your approach, method, and progression of how you do your car reviews, is very intuitive and comprehensive. Stellar review. The only thing I would have wanted to see a bit more of, is deeper explanation in handling dynamics during road travel. Like, how responsive is the suspension compared to others (Model Y, etc,), if the suspension is more firm or more soft, etc. Overall you're an awesome reviewer. 👏🏼

Definitely one of the most thorough, informative and helpful EV reviews I have seen! I like that you make a point to mention things that would be important to actual owners and how it is to live with the Ariya everyday. For example, you mentioned reduced range of the larger 20" wheels, curb rash on wheel covers, driving and parking assist, route planning reliability, public charging experience and additional purchase support information (Carefree+, battery warranty, home charger package, personal assistant). It would've been helpful if you said a few words about how the FWD compares to the AWD (eForce) since you've driven both.
And thanks for being one of the very few to point out how pointless and dangerous a flat front floor is! Nice to see that Nissan offers a dealer-installed storage bin fix for it, though I'm disappointed that the storage bin is not covered.

Sweet Ride! My wife and I Swapped the Famlies 2nd Murano for The Ariya Evolve + E4Force in The Northern Light Trim. By the way you can totally notice the very low drag Ansynchronus motors in Econo mode where the car can Coast along unhindered by Permanent Magnets. I am amazed that in Sport mode that it can take off like Superman the ride. I appreciate the Magic made possible by the engineers. Most of all I love the safe feel it gives me but I am used to it as this is now our 4th consecutive Nissan. Thank you for covering the multitude of facts that are missing from other reviews I find your review amazing it is summa cum laude when compared to others. God Speed and my usage model is rocking DC Fast Charging in Los Angeles. Also I have already reduced C02 emissions by my body weight which amazes me. Furthermore the Carpool/HOV Placards are available in California for around 20 Bucks. Thank you Nissan for free Charging for a year with EvGo which is also so very amazing. Lastly thank you God for making the very smart people who made all this possible.

Thorough review of an impressive car. I was shocked at your mention of the quietness of the Lightning, ranking so high. If you need to release the charger from the car in that situation you showed, can you ask the car's built-in assistant for the answer to getting the car to unlock the charging cable? Thanks for a more transparent look at the buying stats you mentioned. Too many advocates focus on the growth while ignoring the overall numbers, convincing themselves the vast majority are breaking down doors to buy electric cars. Telling the full truth is the fastest way to solving the challenge of EV adoption by the general public. Keep up the good work, Miss Go!

      Thanks for watching.
F150 Lightning is extraordinarily quiet and we think you may find many other surprises in that 1000 mile review.
At the time of filming, the known failed CCS negotiation cable unlocking problem was impossible to remedy using any vehicle screen inputs. The procedure shown in this review is directly from a Nissan service bulletin and frequently proved helpful with the fleet of 20 educators crossing the country during 2022-2023.

My C40 lease is up and I love it but it's a fortune to insure Volvo so this may be a good car to look at as a replacement in a year. Subscriptions are evil, but Nissan's seem not nearly as bad as some others, which is one of the main reasons we are choosing Ariya over a VW ID.4. I'm almost certain we won't be paying for them after the free 5-year period, but fortunately they sound like not things I'd mind losing. I'd much prefer to not pay for them in the first place.
We want an electric vehicle. That is, the motor.
Personally, I would prefer not to have, and not to have to pay for, all the computerized stuff. I don't want a car to interfere with my driving. I can avoid accidents, stay in my lane, maintain speed, navigate, and parallel park, just fine, all by myself. I even enjoy doing it. I don't want it to track my every movement. I don't want it to respond to voice commands, or to have computer screens or touch interfaces. I'd rather have dials, buttons and levers. And I'd rather have privacy, and the inability of anyone to track where I've been.
That said, I do look forward to the Ariya's rear-view camera replacement for a mirror, and the top-down view when parking, and some of the head's-up display features. And I probably will like checking out my driving statistics.

Having owned a LEAF for over 6 years, I'm tempted by the Ariya, but… I'm not a fan of front-to-back cup holders, and… it doesn't have one-pedal driving capable of bringing the car to a full stop (like the LEAF). • @MissGoElectric
      @MissGoElectric  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

LEAF is an important entry level EV for Nissan and the industry. Ariya Platinum+ is several rungs up the ladder.
The 3x unlock procedure is a failsafe for use only when CCS DC charging session handshakes fail and the safety lock doesn't disengage as normal. This is not a common practice, but rather a helpful tip.

People with these thoughts on animal use is just very strange to me. These animals, mostly cattle, are on this earth for us to utilise for all what they can provide humans with as far as food and all its other uses goes! There are literally millions of tons of leather skins from cattle available worldwide. Since it is such a tough and durable natural material, why not allow its use in the making of cloths for jackets, shoes, and handbags, and upholstery in both vehicles and furniture?
It's a ridiculous notion of the woke "modern" human to even promote this standpoint as far as I'm concerned!!!
If you do not want to use animal products no one will stop you and you're welcome to do so, but please do not prevent others from doing so if they see nothing wrong with that! IT IS NOT A NEGATIVE but a BIG POSITIVE to make use of leather! It far outclasses any other synthetic material on the market, both in feel and durability!

Leather is a byproduct of the global beef industry, which is an enormous cause of greenhouse gases, growing cattle feed uses enormous amounts of productive agricultural land and water and it also drives deforestation in the Amazon. It's an environmental disaster
We can make amazing car interiors from 100% recycled materials. We can also use natural materials like wool which don't rely on killing animals. Car makers at the leading edge are ditching leather, the also-rans still imagine it lends a false air of premium-ness to their mediocre products

If global demand for leather goes to zero or if cattle become either extinct or immortal, surely leather will vanish from the list of materials considered by manufacturers. Not sure what you mean in terms of "limitations" in terms of DC fast charging...It charges significantly faster than say a Tesla Model Y, the newly updated Polestar 2, an ID4/5, and in winter also a LOT faster than the EGMP vehicles, even after that pseudo preheat update. AND: it wastes a LOT less energy while doing so. Compared to the competition, the losses are so minmal, that you literally save a few bucks each time you charge your Ariya.

    • @MissGoElectric
      @MissGoElectric  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

All of your claims are false. Ariya DC charges at a lower rate than today's Tesla and eGMP platforms. To compound the reality, Ariya does not reach peak charging rates in sub-freezing temperatures even after preheating the battery 30-60min. All of this is clearly stated in this video with visuals as proof.
We validated our claims with over 100 DC charging sessions in Ariya and nearly 1000 sessions in other EVs with superior DC charging performance. Some of that experience was aired on national television during the Charge Access America EV rally. -Producer Tim

Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts. It sounds like you agree with the conclusion in this video that the lower price trim levels are not competitive for cost sensitive buyers. At $60k, however, the value proposition changes. There is a very long list of features in the description which Tesla does not offer at any price for the Model Y and which are offered in the Ariya Platinum+.
Buyers living in states where Tesla sales have been outlawed or regions where Tesla has no physical presence can more easily access a Nissan for sales and service. Buyers who want a higher level of user-friendliness, who don't want to drive the most common EV, or who have other issues with Tesla/Elon might also be interested in something like the Ariya. We are glad there are now many options out there for EV buyers to chose from.
It's music to my ears that outrageous franchise dealer markups are becoming a thing of the past. Who wants to pay at or above MSRP?
To note, Ariya does have a lease loophole where buyers can get the $7500 federal incentive. That could help Nissan move some inventory. States may offer subsidies too.
We hope our EV reviews will be helpful as buyers narrow the field.
