    Good advice and motivation along with previous video (when to quit) for people looking to work for themselves. All I would add is don’t forget mindset, that’s the secret to self-employment. You really have to want it and not just for the money. It’s obvious from your many videos you enjoy the hard work and constant challenges that come up daily. Self-employment is a successful venture when the mindset is positive and focused on finding solutions yourself everyday, and not blaming others or equipment, whatever. Keep up the hard work and great videos 🎥 👍👍👍😊

    Love da vids Nick!!! I do lawn care part time because I love my full time job!!!! I have about 25 customers that I just do mow, edge, blow and go... I made around $35000 last year, I have 25 customers with an average of $45 per cut weekly!!! All my customers are with 0.25 miles from my residence so route density is key, I have 8 customers on my street I live on so I think route density is key for me. Just got to have the hustlers mindset as well... So it's possible to make a good living cutting grass... I do no mulching, hedge trimming or any other landscaping just grass cutting, now I will say that I work 7 days a week but only 3-4 in the evenings after work and the rest on the weekends for 7 or 8 months during the mowing season!!!!!! So in closing, just to let your viewers know that you can make good money out here in these lawns.... Keep the videos coming Nick, Love them!!!!!!

    Rain will mess the schedule up. If you don't want to work on the weekends plan on 3 to 4 days of work. You will need special project days too for mulch jobs, cleanups and such.

    I do lawn care here in Nothern California and honestly none of the clients i have likes to see grass clippings in the lawn after mowing, or a not perfect edging, and theres no way i can charge 50 dlls per cut around here fertilizer and weed control included. I guess Tennessee seems more profitable in the lawn industry. What do you think?

  • @jaman5735
    @jaman5735 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    ok, dont forget that to do this, theres so much envolved here. 1. you have to have a good work ethic and the drive. 2. you must be on time and get up early. 3. being able to do repairs. 4. have good manners and taking responsibility. 5. not having to take a loan for starting a business. 5. not being dependent on your earnings till you make profits. knowing about policies and insurance. theres more to it than the earnings, so not sure your advice is all that good. no pun intended!!!!

    I hear a lot of Landscapers on TH-cam say solo they can cut 10 -15+ yards a day/ 15-20min a yard. but how can you "cut- trim -blow a yard in 15-20 minutes? please tell me how?

    • @sgninjas
      @sgninjas  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If they are small granny yards yes it can be done. Just depends on the size of the yard

    • @bofkaycee1970
      @bofkaycee1970 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think
      Crazy
      Realistic lawn to cut trim blow front and back .25 ac. lot 30-35 minutes doing a good highly detailed job
      That’s worth $50
      Gets hot as f in the summer beware

    • @kylegray1640
      @kylegray1640 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      $40. Its literally 2 houses down from me so I don’t calculate for gas. It’s always my last yard on schedule so i can take my time with it.

    • @sgninjas
      @sgninjas  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      $40 for an hr? How old r u Kyle?

      @kylegray1640 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      16. It’s my 1st year. Just starting low then gonna work my way up. I have 9 yards on schedule so far.

    • @Losomar
      @Losomar 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kyle Gray hey man that’s a bad mistake if you’re trying to make it in this business. $40 an hour is cheap. You should be shooting for at leaf $120-$200/hr minimum if you’re doing the work correctly. When I started I did the same mistake the issue is when you raise your prices you’ll lose a lot of the customers. Best to start off on a good price and raise accordingly depending on inflation.

    You aren’t mowing weekly for 52 weeks of the year so that number is not correct. Most company’s cut weekly 32-36 weeks of the year so that is a more accurate number from the estimate you gave us ninjas.

    • @sgninjas
      @sgninjas  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That is correct Brandon, at the same time as I mentioned in the video it’s a rough estimate but also locking in those year-round services plays a big role in all this

    • @brandonbenner2243
      @brandonbenner2243 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @joshblevins7609
      @joshblevins7609 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Number one, you don't schedule 15 yards running solow every day. Unless they are 15 minute yards. Daylight till dark 5 days a week is no life either. Oh but you get 2 days off on the weekend, not really. Maintenance days, and those are actually rain make up days..

    I’m not in this industry but I’d bet with expenses such as gas and mower depreciation/maintenance that revenue number is nearly cut in half.

      Overhead doesn't change gross revenue. Gross revenue - Overhead= Gross profit Gross profit - taxes= Net Profit.
      How a solo operator sets up their own pay structure will affect what profit margins look like, but it isnt hard for solo operators to see 25-35% margins even after paying themselves.

    I'm in my third season solo. I was fired from a large crew that did only commercial and large estate homes once I started my own.
    Each year I have less clients (by choice), but the $ volume per client is much higher. I am working to build my company serving only commercial and large estate homes.
    My problem with taking on everyone who calls me, and aggressively trying to add any and every client I can (I no longer do this except for commercial) is cost and time spent on these properties. I often turn down clients and also removed all social media and now only have a single website to be less visible online.
    The first year I gained over 30 properties and didn't start until May of 2018 since that's when I was fired! I currently have 15 properties, 10 being commercial (6 are biweekly), the 5 residentials I cut are all biweekly. I can knock this all out solo in under 2 days a week, and then the week after I only cut my weekly accounts.
    I'm over $60k gross and only 1 contract pays the full year.
    Something that I think about often is what happens when the contracts are over and I don't get them again? It will be like starting over. But within the next 3 years I never know who's gonna call my phone wanting my services. That's the beauty of this business too. It feels like gambling every time you pickup the phone, not knowing how big the next client could be!
    Also, haven't seen your truck any this year Nick and I'm out quite a bit..

      lovestoeat420 depends on your equipment. In my buisness my goal is 15 mins a Property solo with a high route density and a minimum price of $40that being said with the right equipment you can be super efficient, have a hand full of properties I average 7 minutes on, cut trimmed edged and blown off with 2 people it’s about 5. When I started my times were up and down with a 33” walk behind but with a larger unit 48-61” you can be in and out quick. They don’t pay you for your time they pay you for your knowledge.

  • @ThatsRightLawnCare
    @ThatsRightLawnCare 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I look at it about the same. 10 yards a day @$50 per yard is $500 a day. 5 days a week is 2500 per week. A good average of mowing weeks is 40 weeks x $2500 is $100k per year. Then add in the other work(mulch, trimming, aeration) That is a more realistic approach and answer to the situation. But still, No doubt you can make great money in the lawn care business. And it's a hustle like no other.

    • @sgninjas
      @sgninjas  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was more or less an example jazzy, The whole message was if you get cards on file and you get the year-round agreements plus addition to that you add all the side work you can make a lot more than 100k. Irregardless you’re right 100K or $200K at the end of the day you can make a really good living but you do have to hustle like no other 😉👊🏻
