- There's some nuances in how to code for vaccinations, and the administration codes, in particular, can be tricky. For vaccines, you need the code for the vaccine itself and the code for administering the vaccine. This video discusses the highlights of age, counseling, insurance requirements, and more to select the correct vaccine admin code.

Anyways, I was proud of myself for understanding EVERYTHING you said on the video at a mile a minute after taking a break from coding. Can we bill well visits with vaccine for patients over the age of 20
Is this for the AAPC Chapter 20 Medicine? I have that chapter to go! Your pointers for the E/M chapter may have made a difference in 3 or 4 questions for me, which of course may have been why I passed, and didn't fail! I scored a 96 on the E/M chapter test, BUT could easily have made several more mistakes that could have knocked me down to a 72, or even a 68.

I have been a patient treatment coordinator at the same pediatric dental office for 10.5 years. I schedule for outpatient surgeries at two facilities, an ambulatory center and a hospital. I submit precerts/pred’s to obtain auths with CPT and ICD10 codes (the same 2 CPT codes for every px). I love dealing with the medical side of things and am wanting to further my career. I want to sign up through AAPC to get my CPC. Everything I’ve researched for jobs in this field are looking for individuals with 1-2 years experience minimum. This worries me!! Does my current job hold enough experience on my resume to be valuable to an employer for a coder position right after obtaining the certification?
It's always hard to predict future job needs and local demand on an individual basis. However, I've often found that those already involved in the healthcare field tend to have better opportunities due to the fact that they are usually familiar with things like record management, insurances, and navigating an electronic medical record. So to an employer that means they'll be less concepts they will have to train someone on.

What about oral vaccine admin code? With injection one
Depends. 90460 & 90461 are by ANY route, which includes oral vaccine so if it's a patient age 18 and under with counseling, you could technically still use those codes for the oral.
If it's a patient over the age of 18 or counseling was not performed and documented, you would use 90474.
DTap is 4 vaccines, & MMR x 2 - where can I check this? Is it in the manual or am I blind

I’m still kinda confused how do you know when it’s a component that sounds crazy?
1 component = 1 target organism
so if its poliovirus vaccine, that's 1 component
If it's MMR, that's 3 components (Measels, mumps, and rubella)
If its influenza trivalent/quadrivalent, still only 1 component

For patients under 19, and where counseling is performed and documented, different codes are used (like 90460). It's important to remember that proper documentation is key in these scenarios. One quick question: Why do we bill 90460, 90461, 90461? I believe MMR vaccines comes in one Vial and only one injection is administered to 16 year old in example. Please clarify!
Because there's three components. It's not by vial for those codes, it's by components. Measles. Mumps. Rubella. Three components.

When will you append 90472?
When you are adding on an additional IM vaccine to codes 90460, 90471, 90473, G0008, G0009, or G0010 that is not a pediatric patient with vaccine counseling.
my question if they had this technology why wont they make something for stds then like a std vaccines
