I just finished the AAPC online course with an instructor. This will be my fourth time sitting for the exam. I decided to do it in person since I think the ease of skipping around with have less hindrance than the online exam. I feel much more confident this time around. Your videos are straight and to the point. Your example of elimination of answer was right on point. My current instructor advised to view this strictly as taking and test and not coding. The answers are right there, so use them. Flipping thought the Index just uses precious time. Great content! Keep up the good work for those of us that have struggled to get certified.

@@catherineb3918 I postponed twice because I did not feel ready. I still did not feel ready the day I took the test. ) I have a hard time with Path/Lab. Not sure if it was just me, but the actual test seemed easier than the practice tests. It is still hard but I was happy that there were not as many long scenariios. I truly wish I knew which ones I got wrong. So I am not 100% sure where my actual problems were. I did have approximately 10 minutes extra to review some of my questions. I watch a ton of videos which really helped me a lot with process of elimination.

I just wanted to thank you for these very helpful videos! I crammed all of your exam videos right before taking the exam this weekend and I"m 100% sure they helped me on several questions. Despite having taken my Medical Coding course last year during quarantine I studied a lot for the last few weeks and I PASSED on my first attempt! Thanks again! Now i just gotta figure out how to start in this field as a newbie lol. Thanks again!!!!
Omg what were your testing strategies?? Was it hard, or was it the actual being timed? I take my test in a few days and I’m so nervous!
@@meganlewis3932 I took the practice tests several times and timed myself. You only get roughly 2 minutes per question so you have to go by process of elimination looking at the answers first. It's not how we were taught but looking at the index first would be way too time consuming. I just got feel for the timing the more I practiced and would guess if I felt I needed to move on to the next question.

I also heard to do a drive by if you are testing in person the day before too. This is to make you aware of the surroundings and possible traffic issues.
Watch a funny movie and relax. Laughter is the best medicine and it will help calm your nerves.
Also, not to drink coffee on the day of the exam. Coffee is a diuretic and you don't want to waste time using the restroom. I'm taking the CPC for my 3rd time on Saturday, and my prior examinations, I drank herbal tea at breakfast. Well, I'm a coffee drinker and I was out of my norm, which I have read that, act like it's any other day. This time around I think I might have my morning coffee. I actually go to the restroom more frequently drinking tea.
If you take an in person exam, bring a ruler to keep your spot on the bubble sheet. Filling in a bubble on the wrong number than where you are on the exam, could have devastating consequences.

Looking to take my medical coding exam. What should I order and do first? Books? Watch videos? Take practice tests? I've been a nurse for 8 years but I'm ready to get away from direct care. Any advice?

i failed my test :( 65% they dont have my breakdown when i called and asked. they said its only available on mondays and wednesday? do you think thats weird? I asked them if they could regrade it and they said theyll send a request?
if you could help my anwser this question it would help alot, i have trouble with. i have trouble with coding for Streptococcus Pneumonia remebering to put Z16 at the end so if i wrote in next to J13 something like ( J13, Z16) would that disqualify my ICD-10-CM

Generally I’ve always gotten extra time, is this even possible for the exam? Or do I have to talk to AAPC about that?

Quick question: I’m interested in the program at AAPC and I plan to start Friday. I travel throughout the southeastern USA for my job so can I schedule to take the cpc exam anywhere in the USA or do I have to take it here in South Carolina where I live?
You can schedule the CPC exam at any location you like as long as they have open seats. :)

Yes, you can write med terms you have trouble remembering. The AAPC has guidelines about what you can't have such as long passages of text (ie, writing another book in your book) and questions from study guides etc. You can find it here under "what is allowed in our books"

Nah. You'll be in there for a while, so dress comfortably and in layers in case it gets too hot or cold.
Hello, I have a question, I’m currently a risk adjustment coder but I want to keep current with my CPT and HCPCS coding, do you have any suggestions on what I can do?
Sure! Keep up with reading your Healthcare Business Monthly, do the magazine quizzes. Look for CEU opportunities that are geared for that. And also look into local chapters that are hosting a CPC review class. They're not just for those about to sit for the exam, they're also for coders that need a refresher!

@@ContempoCoding mam I have one doubt can you clear it, I got a question contains both preoperative and postoperative diagnosis and cpt procedure, whether I have to code both preoperative and postoperative diagnosis
I just took the 1st part of my exam online a few days ago and it is harder to skip questions and come back to them even just to guess at it because it is on blackboard and I didn't have time to make it to them since you have to click back through each page to do that. It sucks and I didn't even get to just randomly guess cause it takes too long. Any suggestions?

So if you pass the first half does that mean you have to pass the whole other half how does that work
You need to score 70% overall on all combined 150 questions.
@@ContempoCoding ok...so it will only say if you passed the first half. If I do wouldn't that be a good sign I'd pass the other half
