- Broken down in Calgary Alberta with a Blown transmission has turned out to be a long adventure. Today we move into a new place to pass the last few days before i get my van back.
My name is Chrome i have been living in y cargo van for 6 years now. I started this lifestyle BROKE and IN DEBT and after t11 months of living the van life i cleared my debt and started to put my life back together and build for a better future. I have turned my original van into a badass camper van that is lifted with all the toys. Over the years i went from being broke and stealth camping in the city and sleeping at walmarts... to now, living fulltime in a jacked up van and driving deep off-grid into the backcountry and living life in the dirt. WOW LIFE HAS CHANGED.

We are enjoying this and it’s educational for everybody that’s considering van life because they need a savings and they need to see just exactly what goes on when you are stuck somewhere so I don’t think it’s bad for you to show these things at all. I think it’s nice and it is entertaining and we like to see that you’re OK.

You can say that your Summer trip hasn’t been ruined after all. You got to do things that you didn’t expect to do. You had a bit of an adventure (and excitement) just trying to get to Calgary. And Calgary seems like a great place to visit in the Summer. Hopefully one day, I can visit Canada and enjoy some of the wonderful things you’ve shown.

I do feel ya brother. Our van overheated a week ago trying to find out the problem. We're stuck in Albuquerque, NM trying to get to Flagstaff, AZ. Tried several things with no luck. Paying for parts, a tow and hotel stays has diminished our funds... So glad you're close to getting your home back!!

Hello Chrome ... you said you were reassessing your life and your direction and this trip has really given you some food for thought and reminded you of some of the directions you DON'T want to go. Also, you are getting older so this should help you think on how to "retire" and still be a vanlifer should that time come. Sometimes life gives us life lessons we didn't really realize that we needed to have ... take the knowledge gained and incorporate it into how your life looks in the future. It has been a hard ride this time but for us a very interesting one. See ya later!!
I’ve had to put my van in the shop a few times. Luckily, I took it to a dealer that was next to a relative’s home. Although I was welcome to stay as long as needed, it was stressful waiting for the repairs to be done. Hope your van is ready soon 💞

The ladies with the kerchiefs were Hutterites. They are big in Southern Alberta. My folks used to buy eggs from them when we lived in Alberta.

Having UBER finally here in Victoria is a super good thing. Taxi’s are nervous. I would rather wait 15 minutes then an hour! These videos have been great, it’s nice to see Calgary from a tourist perspective. Enjoy. $$$

I have a 20 years old car and all I did was changed every 3,500 miles with synthetic motor oil, changed ( not flush) transmission oil and radiator fluid each year, it still running without any issues. I also changed a new starter myself.
Chrome I am surprised that one of your local subscribers has not offered you a stay somewhere. That would be great.

Chrome, if you have a major mechanical issue with your van again in the future. You could just buy a vehicle and live in it until your van is fixed then sell it when you're done with it. You would recoup your expenses.

I know in Ireland they have those "bank" holidays and despite my parents living there and I've been there more times than I can count, I still don't know what a "bank" holiday is. All I know is everything is closed, except for the pubs😃✌🏼 Thanks for the update as your true followers don't care if you're in the back country or seeing how your keeping yourself occupied in the city, it's all great content and your keeping it real.

Ideally, you would have a rental car while you have the hotel and you’d be able to go on a little excursions and see areas that you have never seen before and take a lunch and just have fun for the day and then come back to the hotel simply to sleep
You’re creative, you’ll find some kind of an adventure to film and if not enjoy a couple days off from filming 👍🏻

Those ladies in the old style skirts and dresses were probably Hutterites ( a religious sect kinda like the Mennonites and the Amish)...so you weren't in outer space, you were just in Alberta, with lots of farms and "Hutterite" colonies.

Chrome you can probably whip together a bathtub/hot tub while camping, just bring some lumber and plywood, make a tub box, line it with a tarp, and use the joolco to fill and heat it up!

A lot of people with homes on wheels have been buying land. Some also buying sheds where they can convert them into cabins, which can come in handy when their home is their ride & vice versa & they have to temporarily stay someplace else. Since 2020, they have been grateful to have saved up to buy the land, b/c of rise in cost of fuel & living. So, Chrome, are you open to a home base with secondary "home" any time you cannot be in your van?
One of my ex's used to work for Tim's back when each store had to make the muffins and doughnuts from scratch. One night they made a pizza while making everything else. The only item they need to get themselves was the sauce if I remember correctly. They used the biscuit dough for the crust and the sandwich items for toppings. I'm not surprised to see Tim's making pizza since even 7-11 is making pizza also.
It's so easy! Just takes a few more min. I miss the McDonald's pizza! 😂😊
