It totally works, I have tested several cleaner, but surprisingly this works really well, I have a gray sofa similar to the one she's cleaning and almost all the stains disappear just a few remain, but I think if I do it again they will be gone. Thanks, great tip!

Oh, lady you are brilliant and wise! Thank you! Been cleaning our beige sofa (polypropylene fabric) from all the kid grime with vinegar and water, but it has left dirty water rings. I don’t mind using a toothbrush if I can finally get these pesky stains out!

Dawn is the best I have cream furniture white glove delivery I noticed a stain the guy used dawn to clean it at first I was offended but it WORKED I use it all the time!!!

What's the upholstery cleaning code on your sofa? I would love to try this but, I'm a little nervous. We've had our sectional for 1 1/2 years and I would like to try this. And of course save some money instead of paying someone to come out. It's hard keeping things clean with children. Especially, a 2 year old.

My Next UK sofa says professional only. There are no washing instructions at all. Shall i brave it and put it all on a wool wash with bicarb and a dash of acv and wool detergent? Feeling hopeful.
You should patent the solution Dawn would probably pick it up!
Did it dry a yellow stain mark? I have a cream colored couch if I were to use this method do you think it’ll dry yellow marks?
Not it didn't..To prevent yellow marks, you may do better using distilled water. TFW!

The instructions on my couch say not to put the covers in the wash. Should I still put them in the washer on gentle?
Mine said that as well, but I highly encourage you to do a spot test on any delicate fabric that you may not be sure of. TFW!

It was a liquid detergent and it shouldn't matter. I would use just a little to err not he side of caution. Thanks for watching!

Thank you so much for this. My mother never taught me how to clean these things and never showed me that the couch covers were washable. She would just scream and yell at me and call me an idiot. I spilled orange juice on my couch today and thought that i could just soak up the juice with paper towels but my mom saw and screamed at me. I literally watched this video in tear a while trying to fix it and it worked. You're a life saver. Thank you.

It works very well, but the reason I love this video is that she has amazingly soft voice and she pronounce everything very clear! I was kinda screwed because of stains but all the stress were gone while listening her voice lol

You literally just saved me time and money, first I got a quote from a cleaner company for $400-500, then I said I already have a bissell lift off cleaner so I’ll do it myself. So I started scrubbing and saw this video, and my cushions are zipped. I tried one pillow in the laundry and it was soooo much whiter than the one I was scrubbing. After that, I basically threw the whole damn couch in the machine, thank you 🙏🏽

Most people dont know they can wash their cushion covers. I've done it many times on different pieces. Some covers can be cleaned in cold water with dish soap in the bathtub, then rinsed in clean cold water. You'd be amazed at how dirty the water becomes. Hang the covers over the side of the tub to dry - never dry in the dryer. They come out fresh and clean smelling.

I have never owned a sofa with pillows but I have always known also if you put that stuffing in a trash bag then it will be a lot easier to put the stuffing into the Cushing Covers
The issue I have is getting the covers back on. And the stuffing in each couch is different.

yes ! I wash my covers in the machine twice a year all the time. my daughter gave her same couch away years ago but I still have mine 16 yrs later :)

Thank YOU Leslie. You inspired me to attack my butter yellow sectional today. It's OLD, built in 2007. I've never had the guts to take off the cushions because they're such a tight fit so the chaise, which can't be flipped over, was grey and stained. Most of the stains were from wet dogs. Today, I took off the cushion covers and washed them in the machine. While that was happening, I scrubbed the grey stains with your potion of Dawn and water. I used the toothbrush and also a miracle fibre cloth. The chaise cover came out grey when I washed it, so I took the chance and sprayed the whole thing with the Dawn solution then gave it another go in the machine. It worked! No more grey wet dog stains. They're a tight fit, but my daughter was able to help me shove the cushions back in their covers. I am AMAZED. I had this cleaned by Citruso a few years ago and the guy couldn't get the stains out, still it cost me $300. Today it looks almost new! Thank you again.

Wanted to add that you (a general "you") might use distilled water. I once spot-cleaned an expensive desk chair from Pottery Barn, only to have the water itself leave a "ring." I _did_ end up getting it clean, but only after talking to Pottery Barn and recleaning the entire chair. Some places have more impurities in their water supply than others. I love the idea of a toothbrush, btw. The other brushes are generally too rough and can disturb the fabric. Thanks so much!
Glad you noted this. I had the same issue with an armchair that I wipe-washed and sadly noticed water marks once it had dried, making it look like someone had peed on the chair. Doh! I overcame it at the time by rewashing and making sure to do the whole chair before parts started drying so that the whole chair was wet at the same time and dried at the same time to avoid demarcation (water) lines. This was hard work to move so fast. I've since also learned (via a proessional upholstery cleaner on yt) that you can avoid the marks with distilled water. Unless you wash quickly enough then tap water doesn't matter.

On top of the constant pilling and the soiling of the couch, I thought that this was done for. I was getting desperate and got a cleaning quote. $600+!! I was really ready to toss this couch. Mine is a red couch, so I washed it in cool water to avoid loosing colour and I did a quick dry in the dryer. It came out perfect!!

Love this video, what type of fabric is on your sofa...
Good video. Am wondering if after the application of the soap solution and agitation by brush better to than pad with a dry disposable towel to completely lift off the stain.....then finish off with the wet cloth. Am also thinking with the soap solution that washing machine powder mixed with water may also be good at lifting stains...after all that's what the cushion cover is washed with in the machine.

Just buy a slipcovered sofa next time and you can throw the entire slipcovers in the wash or dry clean them which is what I do. And I keep and extra slipcover in a different color to change the look in the summer and winter. So I basically have 2 sofas in one.

the only additional thing I try to do is then rinse with water spray & use a shop vac to pull out the as much moisture as possible.
I'm actually about to throw the cushion covers into the washer now for my grandmom. But the cushions itself are flat and not as plump. How do I wash those and make the cushions plump again?

on my sofa I use comfort fabric conditioner helps get the covers back on easier

I cannot believe that I've had my sofa for 15 years and before watching your video I'd never noticed that the cushions had zippers and could be removed and washed, :D :D :D lololol!!! I washed them with regular laundry detergent on cold on the permanent press setting, and then I let them air dry inside, and they laundered beautifully. I like my couch again! Thanks again, so much!

I just want to add that, as a test, I first just washed the covers of the throw pillows that came with the couch in the same fabric. I wouldn't have cared if they didn't work out, but it was great. Then I went ahead and washed all of the rest.

This was a good affordable way to do it 🙌🏾. I didn't have the patience though for a tooth brush so I bought a $45 steam cleaner from ebay and called it day. Works good for my carpet as well.

just discovered your channel. since there was so much dust did you think to vacuum the rest of the couch to get the rest of the dust off the back and ends? I have my sofa situated in my living room where one end is by the air vent. Man the dust!!! I keep a throw over the arm that hangs down to the floor to protect it... I can just throw it in the wash. like your advice.

How long does it take to dry and wouldn't some materials leave a water mark?
It took my sofa covers a couple of hours to air dry and I had absolutely no water marks, but always remember to err on the side of caution and do a spot test.

I would have liked to have seen how you got the covers back on to the base cushions. Like mine, yours look like a really tight fit.
I will say, Fold it in half put inside the covers and let it open up inside then zip it up.
