This did miracles for our car's upholstery, too, as well as the carpets. YES! THANK YOU! Tip: we had carpet inserts on top of the floor carpets. Those, I washed and drained a couple times in our shower, then used the same technique. Amazing refresh. Wish I'd known this years ago. 🙂

    1. Spray bottle filled with hot water - spray entire fabric surface till sufficiently wet
    2. Spray bottle filled with 3:1 water and stain remover - spray the dirty areas
    3. Scrub and remove dirt with white cotton rag - switch to different areas of the rag as you go
    4. Spray bottle filled with 2:1 sparkling water and destilled white vinegar - spray entire fabric surface
    5. Repeat cotton rag scrub till the rag is clean
Optional: when dry use lint trimmer to remove pilling + spray with 2 light coats of scotchgard fabric protector

This is a great advice - glad to see this old advice still being passed around. I have done my furniture and rugs this way for many years, and the Clorox 2 is great; in the old days I used something they don't make anymore because it is super toxic - Clorox 2 is better. The key is the rinse in the end, that soda (carbonated) water and vinegar at the end and dry absorbent (cotton) rags at the end to do the final clean up with. Super important.

I tried this method of cleaning and now my couch smells like vinegar. I've been leaving the windows open for several days, and I sprayed it with febreeze for fabric odors but the vinegar smell is continuing to linger. I mixed the vinegar and carbonated water at the recommended ratio from the video. Does anyone know how to remove the vinegar smell?

Do you have any recommendations on how to get rid of pet stains and smoke odor? Thank you!!

Lizzie Beatty velvet cleans up great and you can use this same method, just make sure to use a soft bristle brush to brush the fibers gently when it’s dry- otherwise it will feel stiff.

Hi. Just came in to say thanks. I have this upholstery chair and it was so dirty I was wondering how to clean it, was a tossup between getting an upholstery cleaning wet vacuum which costs as much as the chair or to clean it by hand. I had this can of 3M Upholstery cleaner for a long time but the instructions were unclear, I had no idea I had to wipe off the dirt. So I followed your video about the hot water, used the 3M Upholstery cleaner and the sparkling water (I could only find lemon sparking water but it worked well and chair smells lemony!). Oh boy, what a difference, so much dirt came off!!!! Thank you from SIngapore! Oh and you're very pretty also!!

Hello, my mom has a power lift recliner and Coke Zero or sugar free tea was spilled all over the arm and I thought the best idea to clean it was a immediately putting a saturated paper towel with water and made it ten times worse. There is a huge several inch wide water spot circle thing across like two feet down the whole arm and across the sides and a couple other spots all water spotted. It’s a weird smooth fabric that got wet but I couldn’t get it to try by blotting at all. I think I changed the texture of the arm. It’s nearly new but no warranty. Now I found out the code is S. I called the company and they were zero help and couldn’t tell me what to do. I feel so bad about it! So it is saying no water for code S, but they couldn’t tell me any cleaner to use and I already put water on it. 😢 I live out of state and already left but I need to know what to get so I can go down and try to fix it next week.

Hi Rachel -- thank you so much for this video. Would you change any part of the process is the upholstery is made with a velvet fabric?

    • @ShadesofBlueInteriors
      @ShadesofBlueInteriors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Alicia Patterson if it was my piece of velvet furniture, I would do the same process- when I’m extra cautious, i start with the sparkling water solution first to see how much I can remove with just that- then use the stain remover solution and finish again with the sparkling water/vinegar to remove any residue. Just scrub gently as to not damage the velvet fibers. BEFORE it’s dry, use a bristle brush to remove all lint left from the rag and to bring the velvet fibers standing up again- that way it won’t damage them or leave it looking matted when it dries.

This was great information. I have a couple of questions.
    1. Did you skip the step of wetting the back of the chair with plain hot water?
    2. Are there different types or “grades” of fabric trimmers? I bought a “sweater trimmer” at my local Wally. I used it to trim my friend’s towels that were full of string pulls. So, I guess now the blade/s is dull. I haven’t been able to find replacement blades or a way to re-sharpen them. My sweaters are full of pills now and no way to shave them! I’d hate to keep buying the same little appliance because it seems so wasteful. Surely somebody makes one that has replaceable blades. Can you help?
Thank you for your video; the instructions are very clear, and the results are wonderful!!

Wondering if this will work on car fabric upholster. I have a Camry with tan cloth interior, and it's a mess, no matter how HARD I've tried to keep it clean. :(

My chair came out slightly crusty and smells like vinegar. I used too much stuff, I guess. Any way to salvage it? Use less vinegar with sparkling water and spray/scrub some more?

Thank you. I’m moving and my husband wants to keep his favorite couch. I didn’t want it because it’s filthy. I look forward to cleaning it now and make it look brand new!!!!❤ I’m very grateful!

Are we supposed to dry after each step? Please can someone confirm.
I’m still having water marks. Would appreciate any assistance.
    Thank you!!

holdawait... There is an thing that shaves furniture?! I thought I knew stuff. Now I do. And I want one of those. Also, you said you have "a couple of sitting chairs in (your) living room". What other kind of chair is there? Standing chairs? Kneeling chairs? Laying-down chairs? Only teasing because your video is awesome; I did exactly this and it worked brilliantly: cleaned our "S"-tagged chair brilliantly. Thank you for the explicit, staight-forward video!

WOW! I wish I took a before and after pic. I used your method on a light beige ulphostered chair. It's a small bedroom chair, $300.00 and I loved it when I bought it. Over the last couple of years it's gotten dirty on the arms and center of seat. I called a company to have it professionally cleaned and they gave me a estimate of $180.00! I that's more than half of what I paid for the chair. So I went online and watched several videos. All looked good but yours stood out to me. The chair looks GREAT and will look brand new once I get a lint trimmer. THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:). ps I had everything in the house except for the detergent/stain remover. I use Dawn blue for many things and used as a substitute. It worked great too.

wish I would have thought to check youtube before hiring a upholstery cleaner. Spent $80 and now I still have to clean my own chair all over again. Og well, lesson learned

Just checking, but is spraying vinegar and hydrogen-peroxide based stain remover on the same areas safe? I have spray n wash myself.

This has saved me!!! I’m telling you people, This Works!🎉 I had my white couch in storage and the movers did not cover it properly. One side was exposed and got really dirty.
I saw this video and followed the instructions, and never looked back. Forever grateful ❤❤❤❤

I can't find the Clorox 2 stain remover here in Canada! Everywhere I look it says "product unavailable"... What product would you suggest instead? Would OxiClean max force stain remover do a good job?

Could you do this with corduroy? My arm chairs are slip covered with corduroy and the label says not to wash them. They really need a cleaning, but I don't want to ruin the fabric.

Thank you, thank you for posting this video and educating me. I was able to salvage my 2-beautiful dining chairs. They are sparkling like new. Now to teach my son to properly use a napkin and not the chair.😜

    The carbonated water & vinegar…god damn…
Vinegar has been one of my “secret” ingredients for cleaning, along with baking soda, but I never thought about the carbonated water. And the way you explained it… wow…just wow 🤯
Like your smile, this video is a true gem 💎

Question - I clean move out, residential and new construction. A client of mine asked if I could clean a chaise lounge. This is a service I’ve never done. But willing to add on.
