I love that some of the southern section of the route uses the old track bed of the Great Central Railway. The bridge over the Railway station is also on the old GCR alignment. The bridge was kept up for a few years after closure for future use....and was demolished at great expense. So when the northern section was being built a new bridge had to be built at even greater expense.
As someone who enjoyed their visits to Nottingham on business this is a real treat. This channel constantly delivers high quality videos with a presenter whose enthusiasm bubbles off the screen- one of the best of its type on TH-cam !
Hi, been driving these trams now for many many years. Thought I'd explain the 3 stops at Toton Lane and Clifton south. If a tram in service gets in trouble or breaks down and can not make it back to our depot, you can park it in the stop with 2 stops on same side, then we can still service from the other 2 stops which we do during certain times off the day 👍
Great video, G. Living in the south as I do, with the exception of the Croydon trams, there’s no trams down here so it’s good to live vicariously through you!
Awesome video G. The Top bit will be interesting as some of the tram line are single track with lots of Island Platforms passing loops. The NET is a interesting network as well
The Northern half is the original part of the NET before it was extended South of the railway station and there are some stops you can only visit in one direction. Also once you get beyond Wilkinson Street to runs alongside the Robin Hood Line as far as Hucknall where you can walk between tram and train. Bulwell they removed the 2nd rail platform to build the tram stop.
Especially the Citadis by ALSTOM is an excellent type of tram, and thanks to the shapes of the driver's cab adapted to any city it is even more lovely. An example is in the french city of Nice on the tram line 1, but in the city of Tours as well, where the Citadis trams are even futuristic. Nice NETwork in Nottingham, thanks for showing around!
Great Video👍❤ Here is some interesting railway history information in Nottingham City. The old Great Central Main Line to London ran through Nottingham. It closed in 1969. The Tram Purple Line runs on some of the old Great Central Main Line today. Firstly (At 0.28 in this video) you see a blue brick Viaduct next to the stairs. That viaduct is the old Great Central Main Line viaduct. The Tram Purple and Green line now runs on top of that viaduct. The Purple/Green Tram line runs over the current Nottingham Midland Railway Station (where you went). And so did the old Great Central Main Line before 1969. In the exact same location. The Purple/Green Tram line service then comes off the Great Central Route only to then go back on it again just after Wilford Lane Tram stop (On the Purple Line). It then comes off it again just after Ruddington Lane Tram Stop (After the A52 Bridge).
Very Apt timing this video. I'm planning a trip down there to see Trams next week. Very different to the Mancs and Sheffield Trams I've ridden before. Can't wait for the other half.
the Nottingham Tram network looks amazing & the trams look amazing especially the color advert ones which i love to see when im on a tram network & id love to do Nottingham one day & aswell as visit the city but ride the trams aswell as Nottingham is 1 or 2 light railway networks in the UK that i have left to sample im looking forward tothe rest of the network in the future brilliant vlog
Great video as always G. Nottingham looks like a great city. The tram network seems really comprehensive. As always, love your enthusiasm and personality. Look forward to your next video.
My only time on the NET was at the start of the year. Having travelled on the EMR line through Mansfield, boarded the NET at Hucknall to return to the centre of Nottingham to Old Market Square, around the corner from the hotel I was staying in. Decent ride, was busier the closer you got to the city centre
Fantastic episode. With the Phoenix Park and Hucknall Station tram stops, they're located on old coal mines. I'm looking forward to the top bit of the Nottingham Express Transit
Queens Walk has always been called that. The Meadows Centre name was shown on some maps during the proposals for that part of the system, but Queens Walk has always been the name of the stop since opening.
Greetings from just down the road from Toton at Long Eaton (Blue Skylink / Indigo bus, or train station). Toton terminus, got Bardill's Garden Centre with a nice little cafe, plus the Japanese Water Gardens, with some massive Carp..... well worth a visit.
Brilliant video G, the Nottingham trams are brilliant, I enjoy riding them. I have been on the swings near the University of Nottingham tram stop as well lol.
That was a lot of tram stops in one vlog The top half of the tram network has some interesting quirks, as the Hucknall bound trams take a slightly different route to the Nottingham bound trams for part of the way (so there are a few stops with one platform where you can only get a tram in one direction)
I saw the trams in Nottingham this year, there's one which stops outside the Wetherspoons next to the Town Hall but I think it wasn't on your trip. Me and my mate were tempted to randomly get on it but stopped ourselves! Great video as usual!
Only really know the South section. I live in Lincolnshire, but once or twice a week, I get a tram from the station to Clifton Centre to visit my Mum. Before that, she lived near the stop earlier at Rivergreen. Sadly, there have been a few times when I've had to do the trip to QMC
Nottingham is a lovely city and there’s lots of history about how Nottingham became a city and how it has got its very own tram system. Perhaps the NET should have extended to East Midlands Airport and to Derby.
Great vlog G i managed to get the whole route in one day but i had to jump on and off the tram at each stop very quickly and managed to ride on all but 4 trams so i had to make a second visit to complete them
Well presented and filmed as always. Are all the Nottingham trams numbered in the 2XX series? Are the buses numbered around that series, ie 1 - 199 and 300 to 999? Are Nottingham deckers built with the classic shape of the Nottingham Atlantean, or are they built to the builder's standard design? Da iawn, keep up the good work.
Last time I was in Nottingham I had my bike with me & raced a tram from Toton lane to the main station. I won easily, but then I didn't have to stop every hundred metres 😂
@GLovesTrains had no idea you was down my neck of the woods. Worked for NET for along time. If you fancy a depot visit next time you come down, let me know and ill speak to the gaffers, see if we can get you in.
Hi frequent user of the trams here. As I am a student in notts, the academic year ticket is £325 which is nice. They are very convinient when they work. But when they break down they such a newsence. At the end of the journeys its about 30 min in to notts. Busy peak hours, empty outside of. Diffrent wait times for diffrent times of the day

Wow, much energy! many stops! some beautiful scenery but nice towns and shops.Seems cheap at 5(pound sign) :) for day!!! Was exceedingly useful for me to see that as the next 3 I will do are mostly busses, but unfortunately every 30 min. NG2 😁 🤩

urrgh more cities should have trams I live in Bristol and I'm pretty sure a tram network was proposed here at the same time it was proposed in Nottingham but only Nottingham went and did it - I wish we had them too

I think trams are a brilliant way of shifting large crowds from A to B (potentially onwards to C and beyond...!) - if they keep a lot of cars off the roads, that's surely a positive, and even more so if the leccy they run on is generated through renewable methods. Looking forward to the second part of this, G!
i have never dont the trams but keep meaning to get there another great vlog as always we should expect nothing less from you i know im nit picking but is a island platform just one platform but with two faces keep them coming

Not brilliant for people who are maybe not familiar with the network and are relying on the tram to stop where they want to get off. In the centre of town they dug up the roads only to find the old tramlines still buried there!
As someone who enjoyed their visits to Nottingham on business this is a real treat.
