- The first in-game footage of Batman: Arkham Shadow, a groundbreaking new entry in the famed Arkham series, developed exclusively for Meta Quest 3 by Camouflaj and Oculus Studios, in partnership with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC.
This time around, you are Batman. Land bone-crushing punches. Glide into hapless enemies. Retreat to the shadows. Camouflaj has reimagined the core Arkham experience for VR, drawing particular inspiration from Batman: Arkham Asylum and its intricate and interconnected level design.
You’ll need to master all of Batman’s abilities in order to save Gotham City. Set between the events of Batman: Arkham Origins and Batman: Arkham Asylum, you’ll step into the shoes of a relatively young-and increasingly confident-Bruce Wayne as he takes on the Rat King, a dangerous new criminal with a cultish following.

I feel Kevin Conroy's voice, when I hear Roger Craig Smith's voice. That man is really succesor.
It's so frustratingly close to Kevin's voice but not quite there. It works for a younger batman but Kevin had that grounded older vibe
He's definitely added a lot more bass since Origins.
I still think that Bruce Greenwood is the best successor, not that Smith isn't good in his own right.

Ignoring the platform limitations, the fact we're getting a proper Arkham title where you play as Batman, in VR no less, is freaking amazing. And this game looks like a blast! Roger Craig Smith returning as Batman alone has me hyped!
It's not a proper Arkham game It's exclusive to the Quest 3 which will reduce the sales. It's a VR game not a mainline entry.

According to an interview with the developers on this channel, Ratcatcher and Rat King are two different characters. Rat King is the main villain/ mastermind who operates behind the scenes, and Ratcatcher is his righthand man, who will probably be the one who leads the Rat goons in the field.

Being proper Quest 3 exclusive along with being made by a Meta owned & funded 1st party studio allowed them to make a game with proper modern AAA graphics (basically base PS4 level) and game scope on a wireless standalone device. Tethered-only VR ala PCVR and PSVR2 is officially dead. 🤷

Some of the hybrid experiences on PSVR2 such as both Resident Evil titles are better than almost anything going on in the VR space. While it is a shame that the game library is pretty thin, PC adapter got PSVR2 covered in that regard as well.
@@izgin Lol, no. PCVR (and tethered-only VR in general) has been slowly dying off for YEEEEEARS now. This game didn't do anything but put another nail in the coffin (proving that standalone VR can now FINALLY run modern AAA games with modern graphics).
Practically all PCVR gets nowadays is higher resolution Quest ports (when you're lucky to even get a port AT ALL!!!). Trust me, I've been in this scene since the original 2012 Oculus Rift DK1 Kickstarter (still have it to boot).
And PSVR2 is even more dead. It was a miscarriage from basically Day 1 and Sony knew it. They completely gave up on the device within literally MONTHS of launch. 🤷
@@izgin And again, I say this as someone with a capable rig (R7 5800X3D + RTX 3080) and with hundreds if not thousands of hours of PCVR under my belt. I'm just being a realist here. That platform (and ALL tethered-only VR platforms ala PSVR1/2, etc...) were fundamentally 100% doomed right from day 1. 🤷
Standalone was ALWAYS the end goal. John Carmack literally knew this right from the beginning over a decade ago! The only reason he joined Oculus in 2013 was SPECIFICALLY to lead the development of GearVR/mobile VR (still the base of Quest/now Horizon OS) because he saw that as the inevitable future for the industry, not expensive, inaccessible tethered PCVR headset setups.

They'd basically be making a whole new game at that point. Despite how it may appear, VR games aren't simply normal games with some Wiimote waggle thrown on top that can be easily converted to non-VR. There's a very good reason why it took nearly 4 years for the Half-Life: Alyx non-VR mod to be finished, it's not a simple process. There's two major hurdles that would need to be cleared in order to release a non-VR version of this game:
Create thousands of custom animations. VR games have very few traditional animations, as the player is doing them with their body. There's no "punch" animations like in a normal game. Every single action that the player does would need a custom animation to be made. This would also limit the scope of the game too, since they probably won't think it's worthwhile to make an animation for Batman shooting the grappling gun while holding it in front of his crotch, despite that players of the original can can do this.
Any mechanics that rely on movement in 3D space would need to be completely re-designed to work on a flat screen with a gamepad, assuming you don't want it to control like Surgeon Simulator.
I'm surprised they managed to implement the combat and stealth sections in VR (something I wish Arkham VR did)

There's plenty of good shit when you get finished too. 🤷 Asgard's Wrath II is absolutely INCREDIBLE and has been fully updated & upgraded for Quest 3, and Assassin's Creed: Nexus is great even if it never got a proper Quest 3 patch. (That said, it still looks RIDICULOUSLY GOOD for a Quest 2 game!!!)

I've got a laugh right now. Around the end of last year my fiance was really wanting to get into VR gaming and we were looking at several different headsets for her. She wanted the meta quest 3 but decided on settling for the meta quest 2. I told her I could get that for her birthday back in February. I decided screw it and got her a meta quest 3 instead. I have informed her that I will be borrowing the headset in October to play this.
I wonder if they could pull off a Batman Beyond Arkham game and bring Will Friedle to voice Terry. I'd be down for it.
The Rat King sounds like Troy Baker, I really hope it isn't just the Joker again, I hope it's a twist where Harvey Dent has a 3rd identity that was created.
This series does seem to have a thing about making every title have him take over. Heck it wouldn’t even be the first time they did a bait and switch by pretending it’s a different villain.

Y'all overstate the Joker's involvement in these games tho. We've gotten other villains get big shines such as Ras al Ghul whow ad the mastermind behind protocol ten, Hugo Strange, Bane, and Scarecrow playing big parts. On top of the fact that yes the series does revolve around the dynamic between Batman and Joker, deal with it lol.

While the $500 Quest 3 is TOTALLY worth it if you can afford it (the new displays + pancake lenses = 👌), the $300 Quest 3S (Quest 3 but w/ Quest 2's display & fresnel lenses) comes out in just a month or two!
(I also expect the base $500 Quest 3 to get a storage bump from 128GB to 256GB when Quest 3S launches if you'd potentially want to wait for that, as 128GB is REALLY restrictive tbh.)

Let's be real, for a VR game this does look pretty fantastic. I think combat was probably the hardest thing to nail here, but it looks great. Puzzle solving detective stuff was always secured because we have great games already on VR that focuses on puzzles like the last clockwinder. Pretty excited to see this unfold

I can’t wait for this game, and I know some people might ask, 'Why is this Quest 3 exclusive?' But the whole point of exclusive titles... Is to sell hardware. VR hasn’t reached mass adoption like Xbox or PlayStation, so exclusives are crucial for moving VR forward. The more Quest 3 headsets out there, the more developers can justify the high development costs, knowing they have a better chance of making a profit. It’s a bit of a catch-22 and might seem unfair to flat-screen players, but it’s what’s needed to help VR reach the potential everyone knows it has.
VR is finally getting games that come close to Half Lyfe.
I was trying to tell people this would be the case when AAA Quest 3 exclusives start coming. All we have so far is Quest 2 games and a few mixed reality titles.

This looks phenomenal. I was a little worried about the combat from their descriptions in interviews. But for what I imagined from an Arkham VR game, this looks dead on.
I'm guessing the big guard man is Lock-Up? Also, cool to see Harvey Dent, Edward Nygma and Harleen Quinzel before they became villains!

Because Meta funded development of the game perhaps...? WB had years to release a new Arkham game on consoles but didn't. The fact we're finally getting a new one is thanks to VR.
This looks way better than I thought it would. The Origins Style Cowl with longer Ears looks perfect. Roger Craig Smith as Batman is nice too

They said it was like that initially but actually didn't feel very good, plus people were gonna draw dicks and swastikas instead so they wanted to curb that ahead of time haha

Lol so the devs actually said that's how it was originally set up, but they quickly realized that some players would inevitably immediately start drawing dicks, swastikas, ethnic slurs, etc etc etc... with it, which really wouldn't look too good on places like TH-cam. So they axed it. 🤷
