I love my ally but we need more case options. I need a hard case and a good dock stand that allows full speed charging.
Get the Shuomeng steam deck 10-in-1 dock with 2 RGB Fans. It keeps its like 10deg cooler when running and I also have the official rog ally cases but it's only for putting in the ally nothing else so I got a "TOOLOOKEY Carrying Case Bag for Steam Deck" half the price of the TomTom or whatever bag and it's the same thing. On sale now for $20. Fits my big dock and charger with battery bank and has 2 slots for sd cards. Lots of room!

@Shmack_ It's not the same thing but you van just buy a steam deck case there's plenty for cheap that's what I use and it fits like a glove

I went on amazon scouring for a battery to attach to the back of my ally, and came to the Henhot 100w PD battery and a 100w Lamtroon Short C to C cable. With some 3m dual lock strips on the back it holds it on perfectly. It is very heavy, but the way I hold it, it doesn't effect my arms or wrists negatively. Get about 3-4 hours at turbo depending on the game. And yes, those strips are very bonded to the back of the ally, but if I ever want to take them off, a little bit of alcohol or some Goo Gone will get them off with no residue. And i only used 3 very small stips. Works for me. And the henhot is actually rated correctly, I measured 104wh charging with my meter.
edit: It doesn't block the vents for the fans if you set it up vertically. And even horizontal, the 3m strips stand off by a good amount.
This is kinda genius. I was waiting for a case or something but I might have to try this!
@@skateecho It's more permanent than a case or something, but like I said the strips can come off with some solvents. And fair warning, the battery is really big lol. But it will allow full turbo no problem. I love 3m dual lock, I have used them in a similar way with my camera gear.
I found a battery that's finger size only and doesn't have a cable, it directly attached to your device through USB C and just hangs on that USB C..... Problem is it's small at 5000 only doing 20W....
So you lose charge but you get about 50% more battery life, you lose charge rate nearly half of how fast it will lose without it until you reach about 55-60% then power bank dies...
It's called Charmast mini portable power bank, it's not bad considering the size and ease of attaching

I believe AMD is onto something. This hand held form factor will be the ultimate laptop soon. They should make them as large as Samsung and with many size option. And add neural CPU in them with windows or Linux.
Windows is archaic, we are moving towards a post windows gaming future, finally. PC is archaic too, thats why these handhelds are taking off
@@SWOTHDRA Archaic is a strong word i think more like inconvienient is better. I work on pc alot so coming home to play on a pc doesnt feel as good as it used to.

Most of the screen protectors on Amazon have 1 or 2 stars review saying that doesn't fit. @ETAPRIME had the glass in hand at 1:38 but didn't show how it fits on screen, so I wonder if anyone found one glass protector that fits edge to edge?
You could tell that the screen protector was too small. That's probably why he didn't even put them on or advise us to make sure you get the right size. These makers are so desperate to make a buck that they're lying to their customers that it's made for the Ally when it really isn't. All the ones that will be fitting are soming soon. There are ones out there already that almost fits but I'm assuming that these were just estimate measurements if anything.
I ordered it and then 2reviews got updated 1 star saying it's super smaller than even the bezel . It doesn't fit!! I messaged the seller saying cancel and refund me. They told me they sent me the new updated protectors and have fixed the issue. So we'll see in couple weeks when it comes from China. There is 1 that fits the best but after everyone found out its now unavailable 😂

2280 m2 nvme drivers can be used in the ROG Ally moving the antenna and cutting a bit of plastic. I haven't tried it myself but I have seen it on reddit. And a regular m2 is a lot cheaper, a good disk with 2TB for under 100€
That’s was me and I’m about to update that post as I’ve cleaned it up and I’ll be moving things using high heat Velcro and attaching to the back casing.
hope asus makes a pro version that can take a full size drive and has a bigger battery

Is there an option for plug, to be plugged into your car power outlet to have power on the go? So you don't have to use a power bank and just keep it plugged in?
I did a test on my ROG ally for the m.2 I’ll recommend to use a m.2 3.0, I notice that the m.2 4.0 gets very hot inside the ally and because it’s hard to use a heatsink the drives chips take all that heat, but when you use a 3.0 the speeds are little slower, not by much, no really a big difference, but the big difference is the heat, the 3.0 it gets little warm but no crazy hot like the 4.0, I don’t. Think the drives on the Rog ally are going to last very long time, if you have a way to add a heatsink to your 4.0 drive it’s better for sure, im trying to look for a solution

I managed to short the baseus 65w I think it was sand in the usb c cable.
Now I have the blade and it's much better it will tell me time to full charge and discharge,more ports dual usb c

there are ones for the ally on amazon, the problem is the factories must just now be cranking them out, cause the one I ordered isn't set to arrive until July 1st.

My baseus 30k 65w shows insufficient power on the ally. Even with a 100w cable and 140w cable from anker. Still getting 30w but not charging or discharging.
Baseus has confirmed that the power bank in your preview image isn't compatible. It outputs a peak of 65W in optimal conditions, but the output is variable. To reach the max real world output of 55W, you must have less than 50% available, set your device to 25 / 30W (newer firmware will allow 30W with incompatible charging), and have the screen on with a game running. Once you reach 50%, output will drop to a 20W maximum. At 75%, it will drop to around 10W.
While it is a tad more expensive, Ill take the Sabrent or the Corsiar 1tb gen 4 SSDs over the SP.. that 4500mb/s read/write is excellent. Ill also vouch for that powerbank, been using it for my deck for the last year (accaionally with my Pico 4 VR) and you cant ask for a better bank for the price.
got my Sabrent 2TB yesterday, took all day to get everything loaded onto it, but well worth it for load times alone, the microSD is now used for retro games where the files are that much smaller.
@@communitythemecreator from how slow that auto-restore" from the bios is, you're better off just installing windows/software/drivers from USB. only took me about 45 minutes that way when the autorestore took about double that.

Not to bash on ally as it seems like a nice competition to the already saturated handheld market with some things that are absolutely better than the steam deck, which is what I currently have, is that with it coming out, a lot of steam deck accessories are on sale or really cheap. I picked up a really nice case for the deck for less than $3, a body armor for like $6 with the trackpad and back button stickers, and prices keep falling on Amazon. It's great to be able to pick these up cheap! My only concern is that this drives up demand for nvme 2230 and drives the price back up when it has been falling for a while. Waiting on that sweet price of 100 for 2tb 🤞

Yup, I firmly believe the more competition the better. Ally isn't for me, mostly because I already own a deck, but I sure am glad they it came out for lots of reasons. This is definitely a good way to bring better and cheaper x86 handhelds in the future.
Looking forward to more things being readily available. Broke down and pre-ordered the Dbrand screen protector due to it shipping in "june" vs all of the other cheaper options on Amazon showing mid july arrival. Until a proper case pops up on the market, I've found that my "IINE" Switch case made to fit a Switch with the Binbok joycon replacements fits perfectly, minus the charger. If the official Asus case was more like the Deck's, I'd have gotten one of those already.

They really missed the mark with the dock having only 1 usb 2.0. Having a usb c would allow you to attach a hub and have endless accessories instead of just 1

Is there anyway to overclock the Ally? I play on Turbo with 30w. Amazing. Sometimes i hit over 50w, but not long and only on start of a Game or change from Performance to Turbo. The APU is very cold, so why not hold longer 40w or more?
The apu isn't cold though, the heat is being expressed through the screen which is why it gets so hot. I don't think the apu or better yet, the charge clock can handle much more than that.
The APU is only at 60c when i play and FAN are set to Turbo.
Can't find the official dock in Germany.

@@tresxlord Me too! I have a dbrand ordered but still hasn't shipped, til then I sacrificed a Switch OLED glass, it covered the entire visible screen and leaves the top and bottom bezels exposed. Better than nothing.

I purchased the official case, I don't like it. No room for any accessories. Not sure if I'll keep it or returning it. I'm leaning towards a return, don't like doing that but it's only for the Ally itself.

Has anyone been having trouble getting batocera to work? I can get it to load the splash screen, but then it goes to black.
Don't buy ETA's recommended screen protector, it doesn't fit. Unfortunately, hardly any of the numerous screen protectors on Amazon actually fit the Ally. Remember, Asus didn't release CAD files to the public before release like Valve did for the Steam Deck. So unless Asus is selling it, its not likely to fit at this time.
I think I purchased the same and yes, it's not a perfect fit vertically. Though, I'm ok with that for now as it covers 98.5% of the screen.

I would get a a2 card at least not A1. Uhs-2 is nice but super expensive. Idk if I'd be better to buy a external SSD at that point
related to this, I will straightly upgrade the SSD to 1TB IF only, if only it would not cause warranty-related issue. Since I believe it will break the warranty seal maybe I'll just add sdcard to add more storage.

I’m pretty disappointed. I ordered the charger dock and baseus cable that you used, and within a day it stopped working. The original charger that comes with it works but not the cable and charger dock. It won’t charge

I have two of their SSDs in my PC and that 1TB SD in my ally and have not had any issues.

ETA this is the same video you’ve already uploaded.. and you didn’t even add a note about that baseus power bank that it won’t allow you to do 30W turbo mode. Lots of us bought it based upon the original video and had to return it. Please do the right thing and let people know. Saying it’s 65W output makes people assume it’ll work with turbo mode, when it doesn’t.

Rog ally is killing my micro sd cards
I ordered the dbrand screen protector and they don't even have it in stock. Great company.. hilarious website.. just not much importance is placed on customer satisfaction, but I guess that's made obvious by their dry and very blunt humor on their site.

You need to stop telling people to buy that screen protector since it doesn't even cover the screen. Some don't cover the bezel but this one's really small. I ordered one and basically got stuck with it now since on the way from China but after asking for refund to stop package I was told they fixed the issue but we'll see..for now I wouldn't recommend it to your viewers since getting a refund on it is impossible since return shipping is more than the item and even then I'd take 2mo. If you look at the reviews (which updated after I bought mine) all 1 star showing the terrible fit

SD card doesn't affect download speed.... downloads go to ram and then to the card if the card is not able to keep up. I thought you knew that Prime

I wouldnt say that the Deck is Dead, Underpowered sure. The Deck should only be used for old games or emulation type games. The Ally is also not great but for 720p or old 1080 gaming its better than the Deck.

Not yet, once we get CPU cores optimisation update then Steam Deck will lose also at 9W....
But teaching my nephew to use Ally, I noticed Steam Deck is like having a 10 and above age restriction while Ally you need 13 and above sort of devices, due to how hard it's to run Ally....
Until Windows releases the upcoming handheld mode or version of windows
