I literally felt the same way and cut my hair yesterday. Every time I looked at it, it was thin on one side and thick on the other and my hair kept falling out really bad. I also bleached and colored my hair twice and then Permed it . I then cut it off 😂
The "I'm baldheaded for real...damn..." took me out! 😂 But it looks cuteeeee! The face gives, always...so the hair is just the addition...it will grow back sis! 🤍

Thank you for being vulnurable on here. When you started cryng I felt that DEEP in my soul. I went to the hairdresser because I was so frustrated with my hair I just took a pair of scissors and chopped off a big chunk of hair, and then I asked them to cut off all my hair. As she was buzzing my head I just burst out into tears. The hairdresser jest held me and then kept going. It is so exhausting to have this hair and I feel like there isnt enough room to complain about it. Being black, you're expected to be proud of your hair and never complain about it, but it can be so exhausting to take care of it and I really wish we could just be a bit more honest about how mentally draining having afro hair can be. It's like every morniing I have to tame a wild animal with my products and combs. Also you look really beautiful! I wish you lots of luck on this journey

🌷🍃we invest so much creativity, love, and energy when it comes to our hair, and life in general. the hours and effort poured into caring for and grooming ourselves… from silk presses, braids, color, locs, etc. I recently went through a similar experience and had to big chop over five years worth of time and effort. I was so close to my hair goal… I too felt sooo 😢 gutted! but believe me when I tell you, I’ve learned from my missteps. Remember to not pull it because you will cut more than you always want to. I big chop every January because that healthy hair grows so fast I’ve been doing it for 10 years. By June I’m always able to braid it. It’s like watching your kids grow.

I’m with you! I had to chop my hair 3 times to fully understand what I wanted to do with my hair. When it would shoulder length I’d start styling it too much. I’m determined to grow it to bra strap length.💖🙅🏾♀️

I'm the same it's my 3rd big chop just a week ago, my hair was bra strap length, but extremely damaged from protein overload and I'm trying for a year to fix it and it's just getting worse so I had enough and I cut it at neck length, I feel less stressed now, but now I know better

When I went natural I transitioned instead of big chopping, but I got bored & bleached my hair & had to big chop in 2018 and your videos helped me so much. In the beginning of the yr I shaved my head and I’m starting to let it grow back and I’m looking forward to your vids. You look great with short hair btw 💗

Just 10 minutes in and I’ve got tears in my eyes too. I’ve entertained the thought of cutting my hairs since 2020 after I got severe heat damage from straightening my hair twice for senior portraits. I have fine, dry, brittle, 4c hair that my family permed until I was 12. That I am still learning to take care of. That I am still learning to appreciate. Now I’m in my senior year of college. And there’s nothing that I want more than a shiny, flowing silk press down to my mid back for my last school pictures ever. But I’m not going to get that (from my own scalp at least.) In 22 years, I’ve never gotten a hair cut. Of course I’ve gotten small trims for split ends, but never just dramatic 2+ inches cuts. Yet my hair has never made it past shoulder length. And with so much going on with my transition from adolescence to adulthood, financial and emotional struggles, I’m so exhausted with having to add hair care on top of everything. So the past 2 months, I’ve really been considering just shaving my head.
Women, and especially us black girls, have so much identity associated with our hair. Identity, culture, femininity, trauma, memories, ect. Yes, it’s just hair. But it’d be foolish to not recognize that we attach importance parts of our lives to it. For me, I’m not too concerned with not looking feminine enough of whatever, I already dress pretty androgynously. I think I’m just scared that when I cut it, what happens when it starts growing back and i still can’t get my hair to be as long as I want it to be? Am I just destined to have shoulder length hair forever? Why do I have to work 10x harder than everyone else to keep my hair long and healthy? What’s it all for?
I’ve watched dozens of these big chops videos at this point. Some emotional cuts down to the scalp because of alopecia. Some empowering TWAs because hair just isn’t that serious. And I’ve heard a lot of the same speeches and tirades. But this video has already convinced me that this is what I need to do. Something about the stares into the mirror saying “Are you ok? I’m going to be alright.” The irrational fear that makes your whole body shake. Those small moments of self-depreciation where we’ve failed our hair followed by attempts of kindness for ourselves because life is just hard sometimes and we can’t be perfect.
I might straighten my hair one last time to say goodbye, but I’m hoping to have it gone by beanie season (so Sept-Oct). I haven’t been able to wear them before unless I had cornrows, but I usually don’t, so I’m looking forward to wearing some!

I’m trying to push myself to do it. I’ve been natural for 8 years and at the beginning of this year I called myself trying to blow it out and will press it. I damaged it so badly and I always bleached my hair once a year and never had any problems. So I’ve been depressed trying to hide it with braids but after I take it out I’m right back to square one. Especially after washing my hair it’s so saddening to me. 😣

I'm going through this right now. I think I'm going to cut off my hair off. I didn't really do a big chop, my hairdresser at the time, cut it in sections so I wouldn't be self conscious, but now I think I'm going to have to cut everything off this time. I have bald spots, I have itching, the hair looks deader than a possum playing dead. I'm going to a derm at the end of the month (also the year). I'm stressed and fearful that she'd going to tell me that it's a lost cause and I'll be bald forever. My family all blame me, my friends don't really understand, they try, but telling me 'it's just hair' doesn't help. I can't even express how depressed I feel when I look at my hair, so I get you. I wish that your hair grows back healthy and better than ever.

I think the haircut looks so good. That constant heat was just frying your hair. Let your curls do what they need to do , keep your hair conditioned and moisturized. And rep that short hair. I've seen so many videos of women with hair all down their backs and then they go to a bad ass stylist who cuts all that shit off , styles it they do like clipper designs on the side. It looks hella good..beauty isn't always medium or long hair. It's the condition of the hair or even a beautiful new color is what makes hair look amazing. Also consider getting locs since you've already cut it off..this is the second big chop I've watched you do and I love it on you. No point in trying to style hair that is not healthy or strong just for the sake of having it on your head. I say rock it short with some bad ass earrings, slay that makeup and keep that body tight..your new man is coming. Watch
