    Orton's point still made sense. If every spot is a highspot, then none of them are. If every move apparently hits so hard that you hear such a loud and audible sound, then that means none of the moves are any good coz it takes you so many to beat a guy. These guys dig themselves into deeper and deeper holes where they literally end up having no choice but having to kill themselves and destroy their body to differentiate the normal matches from the big matches.

      Dream Shake Junya You clearly missed the point here, bud.
      Randy’s offence is mostly stomps, kicks, & punches. That DDT (which is not a high spot - it’s an impact move from the ropes) is used when it’s needed. It’s not the first thing he goes for.
      His objective isn’t to “steal the show” and “put on a clinic”. His objective is to win, hence why it doesn’t take him very long to at least attempt to hit the RKO. It wins matches, and he’s trying to win. So naturally, you want to hit the move that wins matches.
      Not to bring Kenny into this because he’s completely irrelevant to the subject, but the whole ‘Best Bout Machine’ name is just stupid. In a real sport, if a competitor loses, they don’t brag on the internet about how long & good the performance was until they lost. That’s what a lot of the new age wrestlers do.
      Most modern day matches (Ciampa’s included) are the exact same. They sound the same, they look the same, they’re structured the same. Leg slaps, high spots, running spots, and constant motion. For the love of God, sell!

    • @6steveo9
      @6steveo9 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@CocoWilliamsAJ A "high" spot is any move or sequence of moves that elicits a high emotional response from the audience. Notice, "HIGH emotional response". So in actual fact a DDT can be a high spot just as much as something as simple as reversing a figure four (which is essentially just rolling over from your back to your front) can be a high spot. Go look at the reaction to the figure four reversal in the Dustin Vs Cody match from a couple years ago. The people came unglued so it was a high spot.
      So that's where the joke is on most of these young guys today I suppose. They do all this crazy shit and it gets oohs and aaahhs and maybe "this is awesome" but is it genuinely a high emotional response? Does it make them angry or sad or laugh or cry? In my opinion it doesn't so they are taking all these risks for literally no reason.
      As you say nothing means anything anymore. No-one sells anything.

    • @punkhippe
      @punkhippe 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I get the sentiment but it seems misplaced. Like how could you not see traditional psychology in the gargano matches. Johnny was working body parts, caimpa was brutalizing him emotionally and physically, trying to get Gargano to lose his cool and start a brawl he cant possibly win again Ciampa. There is loads of emotion and in ring psychology in that series. When was the last time randy Ortan had a great match? It seems like he does just as little as he can to get by and is over enough that it works. Fair play, there is a lot of skill in that. That said, I really dont by this old gaurd sentiment that kids dont know emotion any more, yeah they do, your just old and cant keep up with the speed of the new generation. I like Ciampa more than Orton, but I have to side with Orton here: the super kick is overused. Also, I don't understand why people are calling Orton "boring". I like his in ring psychology, not everybody must be spectacular in the ring. Orton is very solid, and his wrestling is safe. Slowing it down isn't boring to me, every wrestler is different. What you want more? I don't like the trend we're heading in, where every wrestler who isn't basically doing spots all the time is called boring. Some wrestlers are also exaggerating it with their speed imo. I like to see the story telling back, with great structure.

      @Mister Triple Crown True, true! This is why I respect Orton as a wrestler so much, even though I don't always agree with his actions from the past. But I can't deny that he's one of the best and most successful wrestlers, and that after all of those years he's still so important. He proved that he is consistently good enough - and that's something you can't say about many wrestlers in general.

    I'm tired of spotfests and I'm sick of people pretending kicking out of 2+ finishers per match all the time is storytelling. Spotfests and "5 star matches" and hitting every single move in your arsenal every.match is stupid. Have those wrestlers and their fans never heard of the law of diminishing returns? Sure, a corkscrew sunset flip over the top rope is amazing, but once you've seen the same spot or a similar spot enough times, eventually it's gonna start to stand out less and less because the highpost just becomes standard. When you plan to put on "5 star matches" every single night, you're just devaluing all the stuff you do.

      Man that is spot on. Gone are the days of your jaw dropping when you see someone do a frankensteiner. It's not impressive (at all) when you see it 7 times per match. I recently revised the Chi-Town Rumble. That Flair/Steamboat main event was tremendous. I think there was ONE high spot, and after 30 minutes of masterful in-ring work, it made the crowd lose their minds.
      Now-a-days, Olivier does fucking frakensteiners as transition moves. Just garbage in my honest opinion.

    • @drago939393
      @drago939393 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @nooneinparticular5273
      @nooneinparticular5273 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@drago939393 Thought it was a fantastic match. I'm not against kicking out of finishers entirely, but I am against kicking out of them all the time in every match and I'm against it if it makes no sense. If you took a random selection of lets say 20 modern matches, Indies, WWE, AEW, NJPW, etc. I bet pretty confidently you'd find more matches where a *finisher* didn't actually finish the match, which is the problem. When done for dramatic effect, which is what Edge and Randy did, just barely kicking out of a finisher at 2 is great. Also, Edge and Orton really only hit about 5 finishers between the two of them. Edge hit an unprettier and a spear, Orton hit a rock bottom and an rko before ending things with the punt, which makes sense, because people don't kick out of that. The edge o matic, edgecator and the edgucation are all signatures, which isn't as big a deal if you kick out of in a main event match. It makes sense for Edge and Orton to be able to endure each others finishers, they are two of the strongest booked wrestlers in WWE's modern history. Plus, they told a story in the match seperate from the spots. Telling the story of Orton's methodical, carefully thought out gameplan and Edge overcoming the ringrust and fighting his worries about being back in the ring after 9 years away. Edge had already settled the grudge. He beat Orton unconscious in a last man standing match. Now this was a match between two veterans over the pride of who is the better wrestler. It makes sense they endure finishers here as well, because in story, Edge and Orton both were pulling out all the stops. They were fighting for pride. That's why it took more than just his regular finisher to put down Edge. It took the punt, which is Orton's crisis move. When he uses it, that's the end. They conveyed it all through expressions and some pleasently surprisingly well done commentary. Could they have toned down the finisher spamming a bit? Yeah, but it wasn'tanywhere near as egregiously offensive as when someone like supposed top guy and "best wrestler in the world" (🙄) Kenny Omega has a competitive match with a jobber nobody and the jobber nobody: Jimmy Whogivesashit, kicks out of the "top star"'s finisher. Kick out of finishers for storyline purposes when it makes sense. Not just to pop Dave Meltzer so he gives you more meaningless stars.

      @@-BigMike- I know what you mean. Anytime I have the misfortune of stumbling onto a Young Bucks or Olivier match, or am subjucted to one of AEW's professional jesters like Stunt or Pockets, I end up watching a bunch of old NWA stuff just to cleanse my palatte and remind myself what wrestling really looks like. Guys like Flair, Steamboat and Race, men who understood how to keep their spots valuable and the importance of pacing a match so you don't burn out the crowd.
      And it sucks that it's like this, because it doesn't have to be. Orton himself proves that you can still get over the old fashioned way. He's never been flashy, his biggest spot is a running punt kick, but he's still one of the biggest stars in wrestling history. The punt is used sparingly and I don't think anyone has ever kicked out of it, so the crowd goes wild for it... well... when there is a crowd. A plain move like the punt kick gets better, more genuine reactions than any one of the Bucks or Omega's flips or finishers because people don't expect to see it and know that when they do, things have gotten very serious. FTR too. If you're convincing and you work smart, you don't need the trapeze act.

Match aired on August 17th 2019 of MLW Fusion but took place on July 25th 2019 at MLW Never Say Never) Getting back to topic, if Keith & Xia did get teamed up with each other then regardless of who of the two is legally in the ring you will have "Lee" always being legal in the ring.

    Talking about high spots, dangerous innovations and Wrestlers constantly trying to one-up themselves in today's Wrestling; I keep thinking back to the "Royal Road" era of All Japan Pro-Wrestling from the early to late 1990's. An era where future legends like Kenta Kobashi, Toshiaki Kawada, Mitsuharu Misawa and Jun Akiyama (among many others greats) were inventing new and dangerous techniques (the Burning Hammer or Tiger Driver '91, for example) in the quest of creating the greatest match possible.
    While the matches from the royal road era helped solidify what many consider to the the golden era of Wrestling in Japan, the toll of these dangerous innovations shortened the careers of many Wrestlers that competed during the era. Two of the most prominent competitors that come to mind are Kenta Kobashi and Mitsuharu Misawa. Kobashi retired in his mid 40's from the damage he sustained during his time in All Japan and Misawa tragically died in the ring after receiving a backdrop to the neck and upper spine; the unfortunate result of years worth of taking similar bumps in and outside of the ring.
    You'd think the passing of a star of Misawa's caliber would be enough of a cautionary tale for other Wrestlers to re-think their movesets. But, the tragedies continue.

    Drew Mcintyre is a champion. For me, a good one. He can still go. It's still early. He can talk back. Even his smile is dangerous. I do believe Drew can beat anybody by the look of it but he needs to change his finisher. Claymore is the embodiment of the idea of leg slapping. That's irony.
