The trick to beating The Machine is the flipper at 13:48 in your video: If you HOLD DOWN the flipper button, that flipper becomes an elevator that slowly brings Sonic up to the top of that room . You can stop at different intervals and shoot Sonic out into the different tunnels in the wall to get more emeralds, and then eventually get up to the boss. But yeah: even knowing that, it's still incredibly difficult!!
Sonic Spinball was always an interesting game. I never finished it, I was little and wasn’t very good at games back then. Still, I probably wouldn’t be able to finish it now either. Despite being shorter than your other videos, this one’s still packed with great content! Good work as always, Cooper!

[checks notes] a non-canon cameo from a questionably canon game released in 1993... I'mma guess 'no' on that one. Personally, Sally's one of my favourite characters, but until there's a marked improvement in the characterization department at SEGA, I'mma happy to leave her out of the games. The Monkey's Paw already got me four times over with Sonic material, I'm not looking for a fifth. Also the whole Mobius vs. Earth thing is so funny to me because of the whole "Two Worlds" thing that's been going around since at least 2004. Sonic X did it, the Sonic movie did it, Ian Flynn insists that it was canon as far back as _Sonic Adventure,_ but despite SEGA now operating on the logic that Sonic and his friends _are_ from another world, and even setting the Meta Era games on said world... they keep refusing to give it a name and just call it "Sonic's World." Mobius is quite literally _canon in all but name._ 'Cuz Hell will freeze over before SEGA admit that their American branch had a good idea in the 90s.

Extra fact about the machine: it isnt inspired by genocide city zone, it uses graphics FROM the actual level. it was confirmed by the guy who actually made the graphics. they just used some of them and made extra for the machine.
To be fair about the the number of Chaos Emeralds. We normally just collect 7, but there likely are way more than 7 as it's not described as having some unique creation story or anything. Plus Sonic X did have that whole room of emeralds before that Tails said were "fake". But I really question the logic of "fake emeralds" when Sonic was able to use one to do Chaos Control. Plus Sonic Adventure 2 has the Chaos drives which are said in the games description to basically be batteries containing fragmented chaos emerald chunks. Basically says there are a ton of them.
Sonic 2 was also using the American design. It's not easy to see, but if you take a look at some sprites (especially the sprites when Sonic jumps off a spring) you can clearly see the American design. Well, maybe it's a weird compromise between the two designs, because Sonic's body looks as if it's the usual Japanese design.
I had this game on the original Genesis when I was little too, along with 1 and 2 (And Mean Bean Machine). Yes, this game does indeed exist. It's pretty short, but also pretty fun. It basically takes Casino Night from 2 and turns it into a whole game. I know the lore isn't too consistent with the other games, but oh well. The only track I really don't like is the options theme, the rest of the music is good, like you said. I've beaten this game plenty of times. I actually didn't know the Cyber City thing. So yeah, this game good. F.
I'm sure that the 16 emeralds in this game were synthetic, created by Eggman as a power source for his base. That explains why they all have the same color, and why he needed so many of them (since they're probably less powerful than the actual emeralds, thus needing more synthetic emeralds to reach the same power).
You're not the only one who got stuck on The Machine, and I played the Game Gear version. Which is a bit easier if you can look past the framerate and physics.
yeah the gems thing. It comes with a tracker and a bank of instrument presets. You could make your own but most of the included preset instruments sounded terrible.
Aw man the SEGA Smashpack was my shit back when I was like 7, although outta all the games the only one I could beat was Golden Axe, Ecco the Dolphin and Sonic Spinball were impossible

I never beat it either when I was a kid 😭 I think I always got to Lava Powerhouse (SOMEHOW) I think I beat it once or twice but I'd just keep dying SO MUCH. 🙄 And I honestly remember feeling so defeated that I didn't have any fight left in me to keep trying so I'd just go to Sonic 3 or something else lol 😅 the results screen didn't help either cause my TV would usually be higher than it should've been and that song jumpscared me a couple times lbs 😂
you know my youtube name is spinball production or spinball for short and you would think this game has some importance to me but I've only played this game for 10 minutes at most.
@@brolookatthatthingbehindyo1324 i play in the sonic gems collection and it seems easy i know it's dull and the bosses are meh but it's better then get freak out in the second boss because it still scares me to death but eventually i beat it but i made until the third level then i am done so yes it's exciting but it's hard and scary at least with the game gear version you can get one of those electric things on every level or else i would probably hate it more and there are codes
Sonic Spinball isn't anything special. The final boss fight is annoying as hell. This was a weird case in my child hood because we basically rented it the most for some odd reason. We later got our own copy of the game. I would say I have arguments how Sonic 3D Blast is better than this. Slightly better controls, better sound effects, a decent soundtrack, better boss fights and a few codes. Back to Sonic Spinball, it's weird Sega went that route when we also gotten Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine close by it's release. Thus we have two Sonic spin off games in late 1993.
This game would be fine if it ran well. But everything, mechanically is very sub par. Frame rate, control response time, hit boxes, collision detection. So in the end it feels awful to play and runs at an inconsistent jerky frame rate. Apparently to save time they did not use assembly code but used C to program which is a high level programming language and requires a C environment to be loaded and run as an abstraction layer between the software and hardware greatly affecting performance.
This was a pack-in game that came with my Genesis that I got to replace the Genesis my cousins accidentally stepped on and broke. I could NOT STAND Sonic Spinball. I ended up trading it for Golden Axe, until my mom found out and made me give it back.

Sonic pinball party is in the top 5 best Sonic games of all time in account that it has a choa garden.
I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Spinball, I don't care what people say, it's an alright game.

Unpopular opinion:I love the game gear version more then the genesis version because it’s easy and the bosses don’t horrify me that much
but then it doesn't feel as satisfying when you destroy the monstrosity

It actually was one of the first games I ever played. Obviously Sonic 1 was my first game, but never liked Sonic 1; Sonic 2 though is a masterpiece.
